< Genesis 5 >

1 This [is] the genealogy of men in the day in which God made Adam; in the image of God he made him:
Here is a list of the descendants of Adam. When God created humans, he caused them to be like him in many ways.
2 male and female he made them, and blessed them; and he called his name Adam, in the day in which he made them.
He created one man and one woman. He blessed them, and on the day that he created them, he called them ‘human beings’.
3 And Adam lived two hundred and thirty years, and begot [a son] after his [own] form, and after his [own] image, and he called his name Seth.
When Adam was 130 years old, he became the father of a son who [grew up to] be just like him. That was the son he named Seth.
4 And the days of Adam, which he lived after his begetting Seth, were seven hundred years; and he begot sons and daughters.
After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 more years, and during those years he became the father of other sons and daughters.
5 And all the days of Adam which he lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.
Adam lived 930 years altogether, and then he died.
6 Now Seth lived two hundred and five years, and begot Enos.
When Seth was 105 years old, he became the father of Enosh.
7 And Seth lived after his begetting Enos, seven hundred and seven years, and he begot sons and daughters.
After Enosh was born, Seth lived 807 more years, and became the father of other sons and daughters.
8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.
Seth lived 912 years altogether, and then he died.
9 And Enos lived an hundred and ninety years, and begot Cainan.
When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan.
10 And Enos lived after his begetting Cainan, seven hundred and fifteen years, and he begot sons and daughters.
After Kenan was born, Enosh lived 815 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years, and he died.
Enosh lived 905 years altogether, and then he died.
12 And Cainan lived an hundred and seventy years, and he begot Maleleel.
When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel.
13 And Cainan lived after his begetting Maleleel, seven hundred and forty years, and he begot sons and daughters.
After Mahalalel was born, Kenan lived 840 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.
Kenan lived 910 years altogether, and then he died.
15 And Maleleel lived an hundred and sixty and five years, and he begot Jared.
When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared.
16 And Maleleel lived after his begetting Jared, seven hundred and thirty years, and he begot sons and daughters.
After Jared was born, Mahalalel lived 830 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
17 And all the days of Maleleel were eight hundred and ninety and five years, and he died.
Mahalalel lived 895 years altogether, and then he died.
18 And Jared lived an hundred and sixty and two years, and begot Enoch:
When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch.
19 and Jared lived after his begetting Enoch, eight hundred years, and he begot sons and daughters.
Jared lived 800 years after Enoch was born, and he became the father of other sons and daughters.
20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty and two years, and he died.
Jared lived 962 years altogether, and then he died.
21 And Enoch lived an hundred and sixty and five years, and became the father of Mathusala.
When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah.
22 And Enoch was well-pleasing to God after his begetting Mathusala, two hundred years, and he begot sons and daughters.
Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for 300 years after Methuselah was born, and he became the father of other sons and daughters.
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty and five years.
Enoch lived 365 years altogether in close fellowship with God.
24 And Enoch was well-pleasing to God, and was not found, because God translated him.
Then one day he disappeared, because God took him away [to be with him in heaven].
25 And Mathusala lived an hundred and sixty and seven years, and begot Lamech.
When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech.
26 And Mathusala lived after his begetting Lamech eight hundred and two years, and begot sons and daughters.
Methuselah lived 782 years after Lamech was born, and became the father of other sons and daughters.
27 And all the days of Mathusala which he lived, were nine hundred and sixty and nine years, and he died.
Methuselah lived 969 years altogether, and then he died.
28 And Lamech lived an hundred and eighty and eight years, and begot a son.
When Lamech was 182 years old, he became the father of a son,
29 And he called his name Noe, saying, This one will cause us to cease from our works, and from the toils of our hands, and from the earth, which the Lord God has cursed.
whom he named Noah, [which sounds like the Hebrew word that means ‘relief’], because he said, “He will bring us relief from all the hard work we have been doing to produce food from the ground that Yahweh cursed.”
30 And Lamech lived after his begetting Noe, five hundred and sixty and five years, and begot sons and daughters.
Lamech lived 595 years after Noah was born and became the father of other sons and daughters.
31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and fifty-three years, and he died.
Lamech lived 777 years altogether, and then he died.
When Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of a son whom he named Shem. Later he became the father of another son whom he named Ham, and later he became the father of another son whom he named Japheth.
