Chronicles I 25

1 And king David and the captains of the host appointed to their services the sons of Asaph, and of Aeman, and of Idithun, prophesiers with harps, and lutes, and cymbals: and their number was according to their polls serving in their ministrations.

David, avec les chefs de l’armée, assigna une place à part, dans le service du culte, aux fils d’Assaph, de Hêman et de Yedouthoun, qui pratiquaient l’art de la harpe, du luth et des cymbales. Suit le dénombrement de ces artistes exécutants, d’après la nature de leur emploi:

2 The sons of Asaph; Sacchur, Joseph, and Nathanias, and Erael: the sons of Asaph [were] next the king.

Pour les fils d’Assaph, c’étaient Zaccour, Joseph, Netania et Acharèla; ces fils d’Assaph étaient dirigés par Assaph lui-même, qui officiait sous le contrôle du roi.

3 To Idithun [were reckoned] the sons of Idithun, Godolias, and Suri, and Iseas, and Asabias, and Matthathias, six after their father Idithun, sounding loudly on the harp thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.

Pour Yedouthoun: les fils de Yedouthoun, Ghedaliahou, Ceri, Isaïe, Hachabiahou, Mattitiahou et Chimeï, au nombre de six, sous la direction de leur père Yedouthoun, qui était chargé de louer et de célébrer l’Eternel au son de la harpe.

4 To Aeman [were reckoned] the sons of Aeman, Bukias, and Matthanias, and Oziel, and Subael, and Jerimoth, and Ananias, and Anan, and Heliatha, and Godollathi, and Rometthiezer, and Jesbasaca, and Mallithi, and Otheri, and Meazoth.

Pour Hêman: les fils de Hêman, Boukkiyahou, Mattaniahou, Ouzziël, Chebouël, Yerimot, Hanania, Hanani, Elîata, Ghiddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Yochbekacha, Malloti, Hotir, Mahaziot.

5 All these [were] the sons of Aeman the king's chief player in the praises of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Aeman fourteen sons, and three daughters.

Tous ceux-ci étaient fils de Hêman, voyant du roi, chargé, dans le service divin, de sonner de la corne. Dieu avait donné à Hêman quatorze fils et trois filles.

6 All these sang hymns with their father in the house of God, with cymbals, and lutes, and harps, for the service of the house of God, near the king, and Asaph, and Idithun, and Aeman.

Tous avaient mission de participer, sous la direction de leur père, aux cantiques du temple de l’Eternel, en accompagnant de cymbales, de luths et de harpes le service de la maison de Dieu, suivant les instructions du roi à Assaph, Yedouthoun et Hêman.

7 And the number of them after their brethren, those instructed to sing to God, every one that understood [singing] was two hundred and eighty-eight.

Ils s’élevaient au nombre de deux cent quatre-vingt-huit, en comptant avec eux leurs frères exercés aux cantiques du Seigneur, tous ceux qui étaient passés maîtres.

8 And they also cast lots for the daily courses, for the great and the small [of them], of the perfect ones and the learners.

On répartit par le sort leurs sections, en y comprenant également petits et grands, maîtres et apprentis.

9 And the first lot of his sons and of his brethren came forth to Asaph the son of Joseph, [namely], Godolias: the second Heneia, his sons and his brethren [being] twelve.

Le sort désigna en premier la famille d’Assaph en la personne de Joseph. Ghedaliahou fut le second: lui, ses frères et ses fils étaient ensemble douze.

10 The third Zacchur, his sons and his brethren [were] twelve:

Le troisième fut Zaccour; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

11 the fourth Jesri, his sons and his brethren [were] twelve:

Le quatrième fut Yiçri, avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

12 the fifth Nathan, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le cinquième fut Netaniahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

13 the sixth Bukias, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le sixième fut Boukkiyahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

14 the seventh Iseriel, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le septième fut Yessarèla; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

15 the eighth Josia, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le huitième fut Isaïe; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

16 the ninth Matthanias, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le neuvième fut Mattaniahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

17 the tenth Semeia, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le dixième fut Chimeï; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

18 the eleventh Asriel, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le onzième fut Azarêl; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

19 the twelfth Asabia, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le douzième fut Hachabia; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

20 the thirteenth Subael, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le treizième fut Choubaël; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

21 the fourteenth Matthathias, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le quatorzième fut Mattitiahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

22 the fifteenth Jerimoth, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le quinzième fut Yerêmot; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

23 the sixteenth Anania, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le seizième fut Hananiahou; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

24 the seventeenth Jesbasaca, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le dix-septième fut Yochbekacha; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

25 the eighteenth Ananias, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le dix-huitième fut Hanani; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

26 the nineteenth Mallithi, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le dix-neuvième fut Malloti; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

27 the twentieth Heliatha, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le vingtième fut Eliyata; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

28 the twenty-first Otheri, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le vingt-unième fut Hotir; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

29 the twenty-second Godollathi, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le vingt-deuxième fut Ghiddalti; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

30 the twenty-third Meazoth, his sons and his brethren, twelve:

Le vingt-troisième fut Mahaziot; avec ses fils et ses frères, douze.

31 the twenty-fourth Rometthiezer, his sons and his brethren, twelve:
