Jeremiah 8
1 At that time, says the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
“‘সদাপ্রভু বলেন, সেই সময় যিহূদার রাজা ও রাজকর্মচারীদের হাড়, যাজক ও ভাববাদীদের হাড় এবং জেরুশালেমের লোকদের হাড়, তাদের কবর থেকে অপসারিত করা হবে।
2 And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.
সেগুলি সূর্য, চাঁদ ও আকাশের সেইসব তারার সাক্ষাতে খোলা পড়ে থাকবে, যাদের তারা ভালোবাসত ও সেবা করত, যাদের অনুসারী হয়ে তারা তাদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করত ও উপাসনা করত। সেই হাড়গুলি আর একত্র সংগ্রহ করা হবে না বা কবর দেওয়া হবে না, কিন্তু আবর্জনার মতো মাটিতে পড়ে থাকবে।
3 And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places where I have driven them, says the LORD of hosts.
বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, আমি যেখানেই তাদের নির্বাসিত করি, সেখানে এই মন্দ জাতির অবশিষ্ট জীবিত লোকেরা জীবনের চেয়ে মৃত্যুই বেশি পছন্দ করবে।’
4 Moreover you shall say to them, Thus says the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
“তাদের বলো, ‘সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “‘মানুষ যখন পড়ে যায়, তখন তারা কি ওঠে না? কোনো মানুষ বিপথগামী হলে, সে কি ফিরে আসে না?
5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slid back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.
তাহলে কেন এসব লোক বিপথে গিয়েছে? কেন জেরুশালেম সবসময় বিপথগামী হয়? তারা ছলনার বাক্যকে আঁকড়ে ধরে, তারা ফিরে আসতে চায় না।
6 I listened and heard, but they spoke not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rushes into the battle.
আমি মনোযোগ দিয়ে শুনেছি, কিন্তু সঠিক বিষয় কি, তারা তা বলে না। কেউই তার দুষ্টতার জন্য অনুতাপ করে না, বলে, “আমি কী করেছি?” অশ্ব যেমন যুদ্ধের জন্য দৌড়ায়, তারা সবাই তেমনই নিজের নিজের পথে যায়।
7 Yes, the stork in the heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.
এমনকি, আকাশের সারসও তার নির্ধারিত সময় জানে, এবং ঘুঘু, ফিঙে ও ময়না তাদের গমনকাল রক্ষা করে। কিন্তু আমার প্রজারা জানে না তাদের সদাপ্রভুর বিধিনিয়ম।
8 How do you say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? See, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.
“‘তোমরা কীভাবে বলো, “আমরা জ্ঞানবান, কারণ আমাদের কাছে আছে সদাপ্রভুর বিধান,” যখন শাস্ত্রবিদদের মিথ্যা লেখনী, তা মিথ্যা করে লিখেছে?
9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: see, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?
জ্ঞানবানেরা লজ্জিত হবে; তারা হতাশ হয়ে ফাঁদে ধরা পড়বে। তারা যেহেতু সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য অগ্রাহ্য করেছে, তাহলে তাদের কী ধরনের প্রজ্ঞা আছে?
10 Therefore will I give their wives to others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even to the priest every one deals falsely.
সেই কারণে, আমি তাদের স্ত্রীদের নিয়ে অন্য লোকদের দেব, তাদের খেতগুলি নতুন সব মালিককে দেব। নগণ্যতম জন থেকে মহান ব্যক্তি পর্যন্ত, সকলেই লোভ-লালসায় লিপ্ত; ভাববাদী ও যাজকেরা সব এক রকম, তারা সকলেই প্রতারণার অনুশীলন করে।
11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
তারা আমার প্রজাদের ক্ষত এভাবে নিরাময় করে, যেন তা একটুও ক্ষতিকর নয়। যখন কোনো শান্তি নেই, তখন “শান্তি, শান্তি,” বলে তারা আশ্বাস দেয়।
12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? no, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, says the LORD.
তাদের এই জঘন্য আচরণের জন্য তারা কি লজ্জিত? না, তাদের কোনও লজ্জা নেই; লজ্জাবনত হতে তারা জানেই না। তাই, পতিতদের মধ্যে তারাও পতিত হবে; আমি যখন তাদের শাস্তি দিই, তখন তাদেরও ভূপতিত করব, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।
13 I will surely consume them, says the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.
“‘আমি তাদের সব শস্য শেষ করে দেব, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন। তাদের দ্রাক্ষালতায় কোনো আঙুর থাকবে না। ডুমুর গাছে থাকবে না কোনো ডুমুর, তাদের পাতাগুলি শুকিয়ে যাবে। আমি যা কিছু তাদের দিয়েছিলাম, সব তাদের কাছ থেকে ফিরিয়ে নেব।’”
14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defended cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God has put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.
কেন আমরা এখানে বসে আছি? এসো, সবাই একত্র হই! এসো আমরা সুরক্ষিত নগরগুলিতে পালিয়ে যাই এবং সেখানে ধ্বংস হই! কারণ আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু আমাদের ধ্বংস হওয়ার জন্য নিরূপণ করেছেন এবং আমাদের পান করার জন্য বিষাক্ত জল দিয়েছেন, কারণ আমরা তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করেছি।
15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!
আমরা শান্তির আশা করলাম কিন্তু কোনো মঙ্গল হল না, আমরা রোগনিরাময়ের অপেক্ষা করেছিলাম, কিন্তু কেবলমাত্র আতঙ্কের সম্মুখীন হলাম।
16 The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.
দান অঞ্চল থেকে শত্রুদের অশ্বের নাসারব শোনা যাচ্ছে; তাদের অশ্বগুলির হ্রেষারবে সমস্ত দেশ কম্পিত হচ্ছে। এই দেশ ও এর ভিতরের সবকিছু, এই নগর ও এর মধ্যে বসবাসকারী সবাইকে, তারা গ্রাস করার জন্য এসেছে।
17 For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, says the LORD.
“দেখো, আমি তোমাদের মধ্যে বিষধর সাপ প্রেরণ করব, সেই কালসাপগুলিকে মন্ত্রমুগ্ধ করা যাবে না, আর তারা তোমাদের দংশন করবে,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।
18 When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me.
আমার দুঃখ নিরাময়ের ঊর্ধ্বে, আমার অন্তর ভগ্নচূর্ণ হয়েছে।
19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?
এক দূরবর্তী দেশ থেকে আমার প্রজাদের কান্না শ্রবণ করো: “সদাপ্রভু কি সিয়োনে নেই? তার রাজা কি আর সেখানে থাকেন না?” “তাদের দেবমূর্তিগুলির দ্বারা, তাদের সেই অসার বিজাতীয় দেবপ্রতিমাগুলির দ্বারা, তারা কেন আমার ক্রোধের উদ্রেক করেছে?”
20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
“শস্যচয়নের কাল অতীত হয়েছে, গ্রীষ্মকাল শেষ হয়েছে, কিন্তু আমাদের উদ্ধারলাভ হয়নি।”
21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment has taken hold on me.
আমার জাতির লোকেরা যেহেতু চূর্ণ হয়েছে, আমিও চূর্ণ হয়েছি; আমি শোক করি, আতঙ্ক আমাকে ঘিরে ধরেছে।
22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
গিলিয়দে কি কোনো ব্যথার মলম নেই? সেখানে কি কোনো চিকিৎসক নেই? তাহলে কেন আমার জাতির লোকেদের ক্ষত নিরাময় হয় না?
