Job 40
1 Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said:
Der Herr erwiderte dem Job und sprach:
2 Shall he that reproveth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.
"Ist nun der Streit mit dem Allmächtigen zu Ende? Wer Gott anklagt, antworte drauf!"
3 Then Job answered the LORD, and said:
Und Job erwiderte dem Herrn und sprach:
4 Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer Thee? I lay my hand upon my mouth.
"Ich bin doch zu gering, daß ich Dir Antwort gebe; ich lege meine Hand auf meinen Mund.
5 Once have I spoken, but I will not answer again; yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.
Einmal hab ich geredet; ich widerspreche nimmer. Ein zweitesmal tu ich's nicht wieder."
6 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
Der Herr erwiderte dem Job nach diesem Wettersturm und sprach:
7 Gird up thy loins now like a man; I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto Me.
"Auf, gürte deine Lenden wie ein Mann! Ich will dich fragen; du belehre mich!
8 Wilt thou even make void My judgment? Wilt thou condemn Me, that thou mayest be justified?
Willst du mein Recht vielleicht zunichte machen und mich verdammen, daß du Recht behältst?
9 Or hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like Him?
Hast du denn einen Arm wie Gott? Kannst du gleich diesem donnern lassen?
10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency, and array thyself with glory and beauty.
Mit Hoheit schmücke dich und mit Erhabenheit. Umkleide dich mit Glanz und Herrlichkeit!
11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.
Laß deines Zornes Gluten sich ergießen! Und wirf mit deinen Blicken jeden Stolzen nieder!
12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
Mit einem Blick demütige jeden Stolzen! An ihrem Orte wirf die Frevler nieder!
13 Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in the hidden place.
Verbirg im Staube sie zumal. Und steck ihr Angesicht an den verborgenen Ort!
14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
Dann will auch ich dich loben, wenn du dir selber hilfst.
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
Das Nilpferd sieh dir an, das ich geschaffen, im Vergleich zu dir! Gleich einem Rinde frißt es Gras.
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the stays of his body.
Betrachte aber doch die Kraft in seinen Lenden und seine Stärke in den Muskeln seines Leibes!
17 He straineth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.
Gleich einer Zeder streckt es seinen Schweif hinaus. Die Sehnen seiner Schenkel, dicht verschlungen,
18 His bones are as pipes of brass; his gristles are like bars of iron.
und seine Knochen sind wie eherne Röhren, und seine Beine sind wie Eisenstäbe.
19 He is the beginning of the ways of God; He only that made him can make His sword to approach unto him.
Es ist dies Gottes Meisterwerk; sein Schöpfer gab ihm eine Sichel.
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, and all the beasts of the field play there.
Die Berge liefern ihm das Futter; es spottet aller wilden Tiere.
21 He lieth under the lotus-trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
Und unter Lotosbüschen lagert's dort in dem Versteck von Rohr und Schilf.
22 The lotus-trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
Und Lotosbüschel überdachen es als Schattenspender; des Baches Weiden halten es umfangen.
23 Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not; he is confident, though the Jordan rush forth to his mouth.
Wenn sich ein Strom ergießt, wird ihm nicht bange. Es bleibt getrost, ergösse sich ein Jordan ihm ins Maul.
24 Shall any take him by his eyes, or pierce through his nose with a snare?
Kann man's mit seinen Augen bannen? Will man mit Stricken wohl die Nase ihm durchbohren?
