< Job 20 >
1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said:
Pea naʻe toki pehēange ʻe Sofaa mei Neama, ʻo ne pehē,
2 Therefore do my thoughts give answer to me, even by reason of mine agitation that is in me.
“Ko e moʻoni ʻoku langaʻi au ʻe heʻeku ngaahi mahalo ke u tali, ko ia ʻoku ou fakatoʻotoʻo ai.
3 I have heard the reproof which putteth me to shame, but out of my understanding my spirit answereth me.
Kuo u fanongo ki he tautea ʻo ʻeku manuki, pea ko e laumālie ʻo ʻeku ʻilo ʻoku langaʻi au ke u tali.
4 Knowest thou not this of old time, since man was placed upon earth,
ʻIkai te ke ʻilo eni mei muʻa, talu hono tuku ʻoe tangata ʻi māmani,
5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless but for a moment?
Koeʻuhi ʻoku fuonounou ʻae nekeneka ʻoe angahala, pea ko e fiefia ʻae mālualoi ʻoku ʻi he kemo pe taha?
6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
Neongo ʻae aʻu hake ki he langi ʻa hono ongolelei, pea ʻasi hake hono ʻulu ki he ngaahi ʻao;
7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung; they that have seen him shall say: 'Where is he?'
Ka ʻe ʻauha ia ʻo taʻengata ʻo hangē pe ko ʻene meʻa kovi ʻaʻana: ko kinautolu naʻe mamata ki ai te nau pehē, ‘Kofaʻā ia?’
8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found; yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
ʻE puna atu ia ʻo hangē ha misi, pea ʻe ʻikai ʻilo ia: ʻio, ʻe tuli atu ia ʻo hangē ko ha meʻa ʻoku hā mai ʻi he pō.
9 The eye which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
Ko e mata foki naʻe mamata ki ai ʻe ʻikai toe mamata ai; pea ʻe ʻikai toe ʻilo ia ʻe hono potu.
10 His children shall appease the poor, and his hands shall restore his wealth.
ʻE kumi ʻe heʻene fānau ke fakafiemālieʻi ʻae masiva, pea ʻe toe ʻatu ʻe hono nima ʻenau ngaahi meʻa.
11 His bones are full of his youth, but it shall lie down with him in the dust.
ʻOku fonu hono ngaahi hui [ʻi he angahala ]ʻo ʻene kei siʻi, pea ʻe takoto mo ia ʻi he efu.
12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
“Neongo ʻoku melie ʻi hono ngutu ʻae fai kovi, pea ne fufū ia ʻi hono lalo ʻelelo:
13 Though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth;
Neongo ʻene mamae ki ai, ʻo ʻikai liʻaki; kae maʻu pe ʻi hono loto ngutu:
14 Yet his food in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
ʻE liliu ʻene meʻakai ʻi hono kete, ʻe hoko ia ko e ʻahu ʻoe fanga ngata fekai ʻi loto ʻiate ia.
15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again; God shall cast them out of his belly.
Kuo ne folo hifo ʻae koloa, ka te ne toe lua ʻaki hake ia: ʻe lī ia ʻe he ʻOtua mei hono kete.
16 He shall suck the poison of asps; the viper's tongue shall slay him.
ʻE mimisi ʻe ia ʻae kona ʻoe fanga ngata fekai: ʻe teʻia ia ʻe he ʻelelo ʻoe ngata fekai.
17 He shall not look upon the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and curd.
ʻE ʻikai mamata ia ki he ngaahi vai, ko e ngaahi vai lahi, mo e ngaahi vaitafe ʻoe meʻa huʻamelie mo e pota.
18 That which he laboured for shall he give back, and shall not swallow it down; according to the substance that he hath gotten, he shall not rejoice.
ʻE toe ʻatu ʻe ia ʻae fua ʻo ʻene ngāue, pea ʻe ʻikai folo hifo: pea ʻe ʻikai fiefia ia ʻi he lahi fau ʻo ʻene koloa.
19 For he hath oppressed and forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.
Koeʻuhi kuo ne taʻomia mo liʻaki ʻae masiva; kuo ne toʻo fakamālohi ʻae fale naʻe ʻikai ke ne langa;
20 Because he knew no quietness within him, in his greed he suffered nought to escape,
“Ko e moʻoni ʻe ʻikai te ne ongoʻi ʻae fiemālie ʻi hono loto, ʻe ʻikai te ne faʻa maʻu ʻaia kuo ne holi ki ai.
21 There was nothing left that he devoured not — therefore his prosperity shall not endure.
ʻE ʻikai toe ʻene meʻa kai; ko ia ʻe ʻikai ʻamanaki ʻe ha taha ki haʻane meʻa.
22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits; the hand of every one that is in misery shall come upon him.
ʻI he lahi ʻo ʻene maʻumeʻa ʻe masiva ai ia; ʻe hoko kiate ia ʻae nima ʻoe angakovi kotoa pē.
23 It shall be for the filling of his belly; He shall cast the fierceness of His wrath upon him, and shall cause it to rain upon him into his flesh.
ʻI heʻene teu ke fakapito hono kete, ʻe lī kiate ia ʻe he ʻOtua ʻae mālohi ʻo hono houhau, pea fakaʻauha ia kiate ia lolotonga ʻene kai.
24 If he flee from the iron weapon, the bow of brass shall strike him through.
ʻE puna ia mei he meʻa tau ukamea, ka ʻe fanaʻi ia ke ʻasi ʻe he kaufana ukamea.
25 He draweth it forth, and it cometh out of his body; yea, the glittering point cometh out of his gall; terrors are upon him.
ʻE unuhi ia, pea ʻasi ʻi hono sino; ʻio, ʻoku haʻu mei hono ʻahu ʻae heletā ngingila, ʻoku ʻiate ia ʻae ngaahi ilifia.
26 All darkness is laid up for his treasures; a fire not blown by man shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tent.
Ko e ngaahi fakapoʻuli kotoa pē kuo fufū ʻi hono ngaahi potu fakalilolilo: ʻe fakaʻauha ia ʻe he afi taʻetapili; ʻe hoko ʻae kovi kiate ia ʻoku toe ʻi hono ʻapi.
27 The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, and the earth shall rise up against him.
ʻE fakahā ʻe he langi ʻa ʻene fai kovi, pea ʻe tuʻu hake ki ai ʻae fonua.
28 The increase of his house shall depart, his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
Ko e koloa ʻo hono fale ʻe mole, pea tafe atu ʻi he ʻaho ʻo hono houhau.
29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.
Ko e ʻinasi eni ʻoe tangata angahala mei he ʻOtua, mo e tufakanga kuo tuʻutuʻuni maʻana ʻe he ʻOtua.”
