Isaiah 36
1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
Şi s-a întâmplat în al paisprezecelea an al împăratului Ezechia, că Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, s-a ridicat împotriva tuturor cetăţilor apărate ale lui Iuda şi le-a luat.
2 And the king of Assyria sent Rab-shakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fullers' field.
Şi împăratul Asiriei a trimis pe Rabşache din Lachis la Ierusalim, la împăratul Ezechia, cu o mare armată. Şi el a stat în picioare lângă apeductul iazului superior pe drumul mare al câmpului înălbitorului.
3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
Atunci au venit la el Eliachim, fiul lui Hilchia, care era peste casă; şi Şebna, scribul, şi Ioah, fiul lui Asaf, cronicarul.
4 And Rab-shakeh said unto them: 'Say ye now to Hezekiah: Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria: What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
Şi Rabşache le-a spus: Spuneţi-i acum lui Ezechia: Astfel spune marele împărat, împăratul Asiriei: Ce este această încredere în care te încrezi?
5 I said: It is but vain words; for counsel and strength are for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?
Eu zic, tu spui (dar ele sunt doar vorbe deşarte): Eu am sfat şi tărie pentru război. Şi în cine te încrezi, de te-ai răzvrătit împotriva mea?
6 Behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it; so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.
Iată, tu te încrezi în toiagul acestei trestii frânte, în Egipt, pe care dacă un om se sprijină îi va intra în mână şi i-o va străpunge; astfel este Faraon, împăratul Egiptului, pentru toţi cei care se încred în el.
7 But if thou say unto me: We trust in the LORD our God; is not that He, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and to Jerusalem: Ye shall worship before this altar?
Iar dacă îmi spui: Ne încredem în DOMNUL Dumnezeul nostru, nu este el acela, a cărui înălţimi şi ale cărui altare Ezechia le-a îndepărtat şi a spus lui Iuda şi Ierusalimului: Înaintea acestui altar să vă închinaţi?
8 Now therefore, I pray thee, make a wager with my master, the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
De aceea acum, te rog, dă garanţii stăpânului meu, împăratul Asiriei, şi îţi voi da două mii de cai, dacă eşti în stare, din partea ta, să pui călăreţi pe ei.
9 How then canst thou turn away the face of one captain, even of the least of my master's servants? yet thou puttest thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen!
Cum vei întoarce atunci faţa unei căpetenii dintre cei mai mici servitori ai stăpânului meu şi îţi pui încrederea în Egipt pentru care şi călăreţi?
10 And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said unto me: Go up against this land, and destroy it.'
Şi fără DOMNUL am urcat eu acum împotriva acestei ţări pentru a o distruge? DOMNUL mi-a spus: Urcă-te împotriva acestei ţări şi distruge-o.
11 Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rab-shakeh: 'Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Aramean language, for we understand it; and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.'
Atunci Eliachim şi Şebna şi Ioah au spus lui Rabşache: Vorbeşte, te rog, servitorilor tăi în limba siriană, fiindcă o înţelegem; şi nu ne vorbi în limba iudeilor în urechile poporului care este pe zid.
12 But Rab-shakeh said: 'Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?'
Dar Rabşache le-a spus: M-a trimis stăpânul meu la stăpânul tău şi la tine, pentru a spune aceste cuvinte? Nu la oamenii care stau pe zid, ca să îşi mănânce propriile lor fecale şi să îşi bea propria lor urină cu voi?
13 Then Rab-shakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said: 'Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
Atunci Rabşache s-a ridicat în picioare şi a strigat cu voce tare în limba iudeilor şi a spus: Ascultaţi cuvintele marelui împărat, împăratul Asiriei.
14 Thus saith the king: Let not Hezekiah beguile you, for he will not be able to deliver you;
Astfel spune împăratul: Să nu vă înşele Ezechia, fiindcă nu va fi în stare să vă scape.
15 neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying: The LORD will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Nici nu lăsaţi pe Ezechia să vă facă să vă puneţi încrederea în DOMNUL, spunând: DOMNUL ne va scăpa, într-adevăr, şi această cetate nu va fi dată în mâna împăratului Asiriei.
16 Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus saith the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;
Nu daţi ascultare lui Ezechia, fiindcă astfel spune împăratul Asiriei: Faceţi pace cu mine, aducându-mi un dar şi ieşiţi la mine; şi mâncaţi fiecare din viţa lui şi fiecare din smochinul lui, beţi fiecare din apele izvorului său;
17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
Până voi veni şi vă voi lua într-o ţară ca ţara voastră, o ţară a grânelor şi a vinului, o ţară a pâinii şi a viilor.
18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying: The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Aveţi grijă să nu vă convingă Ezechia, spunând: DOMNUL ne va scăpa. A scăpat vreunul din dumnezeii naţiunilor ţara lui din mâna împăratului Asiriei?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
Unde sunt dumnezeii Hamatului şi Arpadului? Unde sunt dumnezeii Sefarvaimului? Au scăpat ei Samaria din mâna mea?
20 Who are they among all the gods of these countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'
Cine sunt aceia dintre toţi dumnezeii acestor ţări, care au scăpat ţara lor din mâna mea, ca DOMNUL să scape Ierusalimul din mâna mea?
21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, saying: 'Answer him not.'
Dar ei au tăcut şi nu i-au răspuns niciun cuvânt, fiindcă porunca spusă de împărat era: Să nu îi răspundeţi.
22 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
Atunci Eliachim, fiul lui Hilchia, care era peste casă, şi Şebna, scribul, şi Ioah, fiul lui Asaf, cronicarul, au venit la Ezechia cu hainele sfâşiate şi i-au spus cuvintele lui Rabşache.
