Proverbs 3
1 My sonne, forget not thou my Lawe, but let thine heart keepe my commandements.
Min Søn! glem ikke min Lov, men lad dit Hjerte bevare mine Bud.
2 For they shall increase the length of thy dayes and the yeeres of life, and thy prosperitie.
Thi et langt Liv og mange Aar at leve i og Fred skulle de bringe dig rigeligt.
3 Let not mercie and trueth forsake thee: binde them on thy necke, and write them vpon the table of thine heart.
Miskundhed og Sandhed forlade dig ej; bind dem om din Hals, skriv dem paa dit Hjertes Tavle;
4 So shalt thou finde fauour and good vnderstanding in the sight of God and man.
saa skal du finde Naade og god Forstand for Guds og Menneskens Øjne.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and leane not vnto thine owne wisdome.
Forlad dig paa Herren af dit ganske Hjerte, men forlad dig ikke fast paa din Forstand!
6 In all thy wayes acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy wayes.
Kend ham paa alle dine Veje, og han skal gøre dine Stier rette.
7 Be not wise in thine owne eyes: but feare the Lord, and depart from euill.
Vær ikke viis i dine egne Øjne; frygt Herren, og vig fra det onde!
8 So health shalbe vnto thy nauel, and marowe vnto thy bones.
Det skal være en Lægedom for din Navle og en Vædske for dine Ben.
9 Honour the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruites of all thine increase.
Ær Herren af dit Gods og af al din Avls Førstegrøde:
10 So shall thy barnes be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with newe wine.
Saa skulle dine Lader blive fulde med Overflod og dine Persekar flyde over af Most.
11 My sonne, refuse not the chastening of the Lord, neither be grieued with his correction.
Min Søn! foragt ikke Herrens Tugt, og vær ikke utaalmodig ved hans Revselse.
12 For the Lord correcteth him, whome he loueth, euen as the father doeth the childe in whom he deliteth.
Thi Herren revser den, som han elsker, og som en Fader den Søn, i hvem han har Behag.
13 Blessed is the man that findeth wisedome, and the man that getteth vnderstanding.
Saligt er det Menneske, som har fundet Visdom, og det Menneske, som vinder Forstand.
14 For the marchandise thereof is better then the marchandise of siluer, and the gaine thereof is better then golde.
Thi det er bedre at købe den end at købe Sølv, og at vinde den er bedre end Guld.
15 It is more precious then pearles: and all things that thou canst desire, are not to be compared vnto her.
Den er dyrebarere end Perler og alt det, du har Lyst til, kan ikke lignes ved den.
16 Length of dayes is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and glory.
I dens højre Haand er langt Liv, i dens venstre er Rigdom og Ære.
17 Her wayes are wayes of pleasure, and all her pathes prosperitie.
Dens Veje ere yndige Veje, og alle dens Stier ere Fred.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay holde on her, and blessed is he that retaineth her.
Den er Livsens Træ for dem, som gribe den, og hver den, som holder fast paa den, skal prises salig.
19 The Lord by wisdome hath layde the foundation of the earth, and hath stablished the heauens through vnderstanding.
Herren har grundfæstet Jorden med Visdom, han har beredt Himlene med Forstand.
20 By his knowledge the depthes are broken vp, and the cloudes droppe downe the dewe.
Ved hans Kundskab skiltes Dybene, og ved den dryppe Skyerne med Dug.
21 My sonne, let not these things depart from thine eyes, but obserue wisdome, and counsell.
Min Søn! lad dem ikke vige fra dine Øjne, bevar Fasthed og Kløgt.
22 So they shalbe life to thy soule, and grace vnto thy necke.
Og de skulle være Liv for din Sjæl og et Smykke for din Hals.
23 Then shalt thou walke safely by thy way: and thy foote shall not stumble.
Da skal du vandre tryggelig paa din Vej, og du skal ikke støde din Fod.
24 If thou sleepest, thou shalt not bee afraide, and when thou sleepest, thy sleepe shalbe sweete.
Naar du lægger dig, da skal du ikke frygte, og naar du har lagt dig, skal din Søvn være sød.
25 Thou shalt not feare for any sudden feare, neither for the destruction of the wicked, when it commeth.
Du skal ikke frygte for pludselig Skræk, ej heller for Ødelæggelsen over de ugudelige, naar den kommer.
26 For the Lord shall be for thine assurance, and shall preserue thy foote from taking.
Thi Herren skal være dit Haab, og han skal bevare din Fod fra at fanges.
27 Withhold not the good from the owners thereof, though there be power in thine hand to doe it.
Hold ikke godt tilbage fra dem, som trænge dertil, naar din Haand har Evne til at gøre det.
28 Say not vnto thy neighbour, Go and come againe, and to morow wil I giue thee, if thou now haue it.
Sig ikke til din Næste: Gak bort og kom igen, og i Morgen vil jeg give, naar du dog har det.
29 Intend none hurt against thy neighbour, seeing he doeth dwell without feare by thee.
Optænk ikke ondt imod din Ven, naar han bor tryggelig hos dig.
30 Striue not with a man causelesse, when he hath done thee no harme.
Træt ikke med et Menneske uden Aarsag, naar han ikke har gjort dig ondt.
31 Bee not enuious for the wicked man, neither chuse any of his wayes.
Misund ikke en Voldsmand, og udvælg ikke nogen af alle hans Veje!
32 For the frowarde is abomination vnto the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.
Thi Herren har Vederstyggelighed til den, som er forvendt, men hans fortrolige Omgang er med de oprigtige.
33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.
Herrens Forbandelse er i den ugudeliges Hus, men han velsigner de retfærdiges Bolig.
34 With the scornefull he scorneth, but hee giueth grace vnto the humble.
Dersom de ere Spottere, da skal han spotte dem, men de ydmyge skal han give Naade.
35 The wise shall inherite glorie: but fooles dishonour, though they be exalted.
De vise skulle arve Ære, men Daarerne skulle faa Skam til Del.
