Proverbs 29
1 A man that hardeneth his necke when he is rebuked, shall suddenly be destroyed and can not be cured.
L’homme digne de reproches et qui raidit le cou sera brisé subitement et sans remède.
2 When the righteous are in authoritie, the people reioyce: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people sigh.
Quand les justes se multiplient, le peuple est dans la joie; quand le méchant exerce le pouvoir, le peuple gémit.
3 A man that loueth wisdome, reioyceth his father: but he that feedeth harlots, wasteth his substance.
L’homme qui aime la sagesse réjouit son père, mais celui qui fréquente les courtisanes dissipe son bien.
4 A King by iudgement mainteineth ye countrey: but a man receiuing giftes, destroyeth it.
Un roi affermit le pays par la justice; mais celui qui est avide de présents le ruine.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour, spreadeth a net for his steps.
L’homme qui flatte son prochain tend un filet sous ses pieds.
6 In the transgression of an euill man is his snare: but the righteous doeth sing and reioyce.
Dans le péché de l’homme méchant il y a un piège, mais le juste est dans la jubilation et la joie.
7 The righteous knoweth the cause of the poore: but the wicked regardeth not knowledge.
Le juste connaît la cause des pauvres, mais le méchant ne comprend pas la science.
8 Scornefull men bring a citie into a snare: but wise men turne away wrath.
Les railleurs soufflent le feu dans la ville, mais les sages apaisent la colère.
9 If a wise man contend with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there is no rest.
Si un sage conteste avec un insensé, qu’il se fâche ou qu’il rie, il n’y aura pas de paix.
10 Bloodie men hate him that is vpright: but the iust haue care of his soule.
Les hommes de sang haïssent l’ homme intègre, mais les hommes droits protègent sa vie.
11 A foole powreth out all his minde: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterward.
L’insensé fait éclater toute sa passion, mais le sage la calme et la retient.
12 Of a prince that hearkeneth to lyes, all his seruants are wicked.
Quand le prince écoute les paroles mensongères, tous ses serviteurs sont des méchants.
13 The poore and the vsurer meete together, and the Lord lighteneth both their eyes.
Le pauvre et l’oppresseur se rencontrent; c’est Yahweh qui éclaire les yeux de l’un et de l’autre.
14 A King that iudgeth the poore in trueth, his throne shalbe established for euer.
Un roi qui juge fidèlement les pauvres aura son trône affermi pour toujours.
15 The rodde and correction giue wisdome: but a childe set a libertie, maketh his mother ashamed.
La verge et la correction donnent la sagesse, mais l’enfant abandonné à son caprice fait honte à sa mère.
16 When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth: but ye righteous shall see their fall.
Quand les méchants se multiplient, le crime se multiplie, mais les justes contempleront leur chute.
17 Correct thy sonne and he will giue thee rest, and will giue pleasures to thy soule.
Corrige ton fils, et il te donnera du repos, et il procurera des délices à ton âme.
18 Where there is no vision, the people decay: but he that keepeth the Lawe, is blessed.
Quand il n’y a plus de vision, le peuple est sans frein; heureux qui observe la loi!
19 A seruant will not be chastised with words: though he vnderstand, yet he will not answere.
Ce n’est pas par des paroles qu’on corrige un esclave; quand même il comprend, il n’obéit pas.
20 Seest thou a man hastie in his matters? there is more hope of a foole, then of him.
Si tu vois un homme prompt à parler, il y a plus à espérer d’un insensé que de lui.
21 He that delicately bringeth vp his seruant from youth, at length he will be euen as his sone.
Si quelqu’un traite mollement son esclave dès l’enfance, celui-ci finit par se croire un fils.
22 An angrie man stirreth vp strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
Un homme colère excite des querelles, et l’homme violent tombe dans beaucoup de péchés.
23 The pride of a man shall bring him lowe: but the humble in spirit shall enioy glory.
L’orgueil d’un homme le conduit à l’humiliation, mais l’humble d’esprit obtient la gloire.
24 He that is partner with a thiefe, hateth his owne soule: he heareth cursing, and declareth it not.
Celui qui partage avec un voleur hait son âme; il entend la malédiction et ne dit rien.
25 The feare of man bringeth a snare: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shalbe exalted.
La crainte des hommes porte avec elle un piège, mais celui qui se confie en Yahweh est mis en sûreté.
26 Many doe seeke the face of the ruler: but euery mans iudgement commeth from the Lord.
Beaucoup de gens recherchent la faveur du prince, mais c’est de Yahweh que vient à chacun la justice.
27 A wicked man is abomination to the iust, and he that is vpright in his way, is abomination to the wicked.
L’homme inique est en abomination aux justes, et celui dont la voie est droite est en abomination aux méchants.
