Proverbs 2
1 My sonne, if thou wilt receiue my wordes, and hide my commandements within thee,
O mon fils, si tu accueillais mes paroles, et serrais mes commandements en ton cœur,
2 And cause thine eares to hearken vnto wisdome, and encline thine heart to vnderstanding,
prêtant l'oreille à la sagesse, et pliant ton cœur à la prudence!…
3 (For if thou callest after knowledge, and cryest for vnderstanding:
Car, si tu invoques la sagesse, si vers la prudence tu fais monter ta voix;
4 If thou seekest her as siluer, and searchest for her as for treasures,
si tu la cherches comme l'argent, si comme un trésor caché tu veux la découvrir;
5 Then shalt thou vnderstand the feare of the Lord, and finde the knowledge of God.
alors tu comprendras la crainte de l'Éternel, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.
6 For the Lord giueth wisdome, out of his mouth commeth knowledge and vnderstanding.
Car l'Éternel donne la sagesse; de sa bouche sortent connaissance et prudence.
7 He preserueth the state of the righteous: he is a shielde to them that walke vprightly,
Il tient pour les hommes droits le salut en réserve Il est un bouclier pour ceux qui vivent innocents,
8 That they may keepe the wayes of iudgement: and he preserueth the way of his Saintes)
protégeant les sentiers de la justice, et veillant sur la voie de ses adorateurs.
9 Then shalt thou vnderstand righteousnes, and iudgement, and equitie, and euery good path.
Alors tu comprendras la justice et la loi et la droiture, et toute bonne voie.
10 When wisdome entreth into thine heart, and knowledge deliteth thy soule,
Si la sagesse entre en ton cœur, et si la science a de l'attrait pour ton âme,
11 Then shall counsell preserue thee, and vnderstanding shall keepe thee,
la circonspection veillera sur toi, et la prudence te gardera,
12 And deliuer thee from the euill way, and from the man that speaketh froward things,
pour te sauver de la voie du méchant, de l'homme qui parle par détours,
13 And from them that leaue the wayes of righteousnes to walke in the wayes of darkenes:
de ceux qui quittent le droit chemin, pour suivre des voies ténébreuses;
14 Which reioyce in doing euill, and delite in the frowardnesse of the wicked,
qui trouvent de la joie à faire le mal, du bonheur aux détours de la malice;
15 Whose wayes are crooked and they are lewde in their paths.
dont les voies sont détournées, et les sentiers tortueux;
16 And it shall deliuer thee from the strange woman, euen from the stranger, which flattereth with her wordes.
pour te sauver de la femme d'autrui, de l'étrangère qui prend une langue flatteuse,
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the couenant of her God.
abandonne l'ami de sa jeunesse, et oublie l'alliance de son Dieu;
18 Surely her house tendeth to death, and her paths vnto the dead.
car sa maison s'abîme dans la mort, et ses voies mènent chez les ombres;
19 All they that goe vnto her, returne not againe, neither take they holde of the wayes of life.
tous ceux qui y vont, n'en reviennent point, et ne retrouvent plus le chemin de la vie. –
20 Therefore walke thou in the way of good men, and keepe the wayes of the righteous.
Ainsi, marche dans la voie des gens de bien, et suis le chemin des justes.
21 For the iust shall dwell in the land, and the vpright men shall remaine in it.
Car les justes habiteront le pays, et les innocents y seront laissés;
22 But the wicked shalbe cut off from ye earth, and the transgressours shalbe rooted out of it.
mais les impies seront arrachés du pays, et les traîtres en seront bannis.
