Numbers 25
1 Nowe whiles Israel abode in Shittim, the people began to commit whoredome with the daughters of Moab:
Och medan Israel uppehöll sig i Sittim, begynte folket bedriva otukt med Moabs döttrar.
2 Which called the people vnto the sacrifice of their gods, and the people ate, and bowed downe to their gods.
Dessa inbjödo folket till sina gudars offermåltider,
3 And Israel coupled himselfe vnto Baal Peor: wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel:
Och folket åt och tillbad deras gudar. Och Israel slöt sig till Baal-Peor. Då upptändes HERRENS vrede mot Israel.
4 And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Take all the heades of the people, and hang them vp before the Lord against ye sunne, that the indignation of the Lords wrath may be turned from Israel.
Och HERREN sade till Mose: "Hämta folkets alla huvudman, och låt upphänga sådana i solen för HERREN, på det att HERRENS vredes glöd må vändas ifrån Israel."
5 Then Moses sayd vnto the Iudges of Israel, Euery one slay his men that were ioyned vnto Baal Peor.
Då sade Mose till Israels domare: "Var och en av eder dräpe bland sina män dem som hava slutit sig till Baal-Peor."
6 And behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought vnto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the Congregation of the children of Israel, who wept before the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.
Nu kom en man av Israels barn och förde in bland sina bröder en midjanitisk kvinna, inför Moses och Israels barns hela menighets ögon, under det att dessa stodo gråtande vid ingången till uppenbarelsetältet.
7 And when Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the Priest sawe it, hee rose vp from the middes of the Congregation, and tooke a speare in his hand,
När Pinehas, son till Eleasar, son till prästen Aron, såg detta, stod han upp i menigheten och tog ett spjut i sin hand
8 And followed ye man of Israel into the tent, and thrust them both through: to wit, the man of Israel, and the woman, through her belly: so the plague ceased from the children of Israel.
och följde efter den israelitiske mannen in i tältets sovrum och genomborrade dem båda, såväl den israelitiske mannen som ock kvinnan, i det att han stack henne genom underlivet. Så upphörde hemsökelsen bland Israels barn.
9 And there died in that plague, foure and twentie thousand.
Men de som hade omkommit genom hemsökelsen utgjorde tjugufyra tusen.
10 Then the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
Och HERREN talade till Mose och sade:
11 Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar, the sonne of Aaron the Priest, hath turned mine anger away from the children of Israel, while hee was zealous for my sake among them: therefore I haue not consumed the children of Israel in my ielousie.
"Pinehas, han som är son till prästen Arons son Eleasar, har avvänt min vrede från Israels barn, i det att han har nitälskat bland dem såsom jag nitälskar; därför har jag icke i min nitälskan förgjort Israels barn.
12 Wherefore say to him, Beholde, I giue vnto him my couenant of peace,
Säg fördenskull: Se, jag gör med honom ett fridsförbund;
13 And he shall haue it, and his seede after him, euen the couenant of the priestes office for euer, because he was zealous for his God, and hath made an atonement for the children of Israel.
och för honom, och för hans avkomlingar efter honom, skall detta vara ett förbund genom vilket han får ett evärdligt prästadöme, till lön för att han nitälskade för sin Gud och bragte försoning för Israels barn."
14 And the name of the Israelite thus slayne, which was killed with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri the sonne of Salu, prince of the familie of the Simeonites.
Och den dödade israelitiske mannen, han som dödades jämte den midjanitiska kvinnan, hette Simri, Salus son, och var hövding för en familj bland simeoniterna.
15 And the name of the Midianitish woman, that was slayne, was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, who was head ouer the people of his fathers house in Midian.
Och den dödade midjanitiska kvinnan hette Kosbi, dotter till Sur; denne var stamhövding, hövding för en stamfamilj i Midjan.
16 Againe ye Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
Och HERREN talade till Mose och sade:
17 Vexe the Midianites, and smite them:
"Angripen midjaniterna och slån dem.
18 For they trouble you with their wiles, wherewith they haue beguiled you as concerning Peor, and as concerning their sister Cozbi ye daughter of a prince of Midian, which was slayne in the day of the plague because of Peor.
Ty de hava angripit eder genom de onda råd som de lade mot eder i saken med Peor och i saken med Kosbi, den midjanitiska hövdingdottern, deras syster, vilken dödades på den dag då hemsökelsen drabbade eder för Peors skull."
