< Matthew 23 >
1 Then spake Iesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
Pea toki lea ai ʻa Sisu ki he kakai, mo ʻene kau ākonga.
2 Saying, The Scribes and the Pharises sit in Moses seate.
ʻo pehēange, “ʻOku nofo ʻae kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi ʻi he nofoʻa ʻo Mōsese:
3 All therefore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and doe: but after their workes doe not: for they say, and doe not.
“Ko ia ko e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku nau fekau ke mou tokanga ki ai, mou tokanga ki ai ʻo fai: kaeʻoua naʻa mou faʻifaʻitaki ki heʻenau ngāue: he ʻoku nau enginaki, kae ʻikai fai.
4 For they binde heauie burdens, and grieuous to be borne, and lay them on mens shoulders, but they themselues will not moue them with one of their fingers.
He ʻoku nau haʻihaʻi ʻae ngaahi kavenga mamafa, mo fakamamahi ke fua, ʻo hilifaki ia ki he uma ʻoe kakai; ka ʻoku ʻikai ala ʻekinautolu hanau tuhu ki ai.
5 All their workes they doe for to be seene of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and make long the frindges of their garments,
Ka ʻoku nau fai ʻenau ngāue kotoa pē ke mamata ki ai ʻae kakai: he ʻoku nau fakalaulahi honau failaketeli, mo fakalahi ʻae tapa ʻo honau kofu,
6 And loue the chiefe place at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the assemblies,
ʻO nau manako ki he nofoʻa māʻolunga ʻi he ngaahi kātoanga, mo e nofoʻanga lahi ʻi he ngaahi falelotu,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
Mo e fetapa ʻi he ngaahi faianga fakatau, pea ke ui ʻakinautolu ʻe he kakai, ‘Lāpai, Lāpai.’
8 But be not ye called, Rabbi: for one is your doctour, to wit, Christ, and all ye are brethren.
Kae ʻoua naʻa ui ʻakimoutolu ‘Lāpai:’ he ʻoku taha pe homou ʻEiki, ko Kalaisi; pea ko e kāinga pe ʻakimoutolu kotoa pē.
9 And call no man your father vpon the earth: for there is but one, your father which is in heauen.
Pea ʻoua naʻa ui ha tokotaha ʻi māmani ko hoʻomou tamai; he ʻoku taha pe hoʻomou Tamai, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he langi.
10 Be not called doctours: for one is your doctour, euen Christ.
Pea ʻoua naʻa ui ʻakimoutolu ko e takimuʻa; he ʻoku taha pe homou Takimuʻa, ko Kalaisi.
11 But he that is greatest among you, let him be your seruant.
Ka ko ia ʻoku lahi ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻe hoko ia ko homou tauhi.
12 For whosoeuer will exalt himselfe, shall be brought lowe: and whosoeuer will humble himselfe, shalbe exalted.
Pea ko ia te ne hiki hake ia, ʻe fakavaivaiʻi ia; ka ko ia ʻe fakavaivaiʻi ia, ʻe hiki hake ia.
13 Wo therefore be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites, because ye shut vp the kingdome of heauen before men: for ye your selues go not in, neither suffer ye them that would enter, to come in.
“Ka ʻe malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! He ʻoku mou tāpuni ʻae puleʻanga ʻoe langi ki he kakai: he ʻoku ʻikai te mou hū[ki ai], pe tuku ke hū[ki ai ]ʻakinautolu ʻoku fai ke hū[ki ai].
14 Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye deuoure widowes houses, euen vnder a colour of long prayers: wherefore ye shall receiue the greater damnation.
ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! He ʻoku mou faʻao ʻae fale ʻoe kau fefine kuo mate honau husepāniti, ʻo fakakākā ʻaki ʻae lotu fuoloa: ko ia te mou malaʻia lahi ai.
15 Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye compasse sea and land to make one of your profession: and when he is made, ye make him two folde more the childe of hell, then you your selues. (Geenna )
“ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi; he ʻoku mou foli ʻae tahi mo e fonua, ke fakatafoki ha tokotaha, pea ka tafoki ia, ʻoku mou ngaohi ia ko e tama ʻo heli ʻo kovi lahi hake ʻiate kimoutolu. (Geenna )
16 Wo be vnto you blinde guides, which say, Whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the golde of the Temple, he offendeth.
“ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau takimuʻa kui, ʻaia ʻoku lea pehē, ‘Ko e meʻa noa pē ʻae fuakava ʻaki ʻae falelotu lahi: ka ko ia ʻe fuakava ʻaki ʻae koula ʻoe falelotu lahi, ʻe maʻu ia.’
17 Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the golde, or the Temple that sanctifieth the golde?
Ko e kau vale mo e kui: he ʻoku lahi ʻae fē, ʻae koula, pe ʻae falelotu lahi ʻaia ʻoku ne fakatapui ʻae koula?
18 And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth.
Pea, ‘Ko ia ʻe fuakava ʻaki ʻae ʻesifeilaulau, ko e meʻa noa pē: ka ko ia ʻoku fuakava ki he meʻa foaki ʻoku tuku ai, ʻe maʻu pe ia.’
19 Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering?
Ko e kau vale mo e kui: he ʻoku lahi ʻae fē, ʻae meʻa foaki, pe ko e ʻesifeilaulau ʻoku ne fakatapui ʻae meʻa foaki?
20 Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
Pea ko ia ʻoku ne fuakava ʻaki ʻae ʻesifeilaulau, ʻoku fuakava ki ai ia, pea mo e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi ai.
21 And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
Pea ko ia ʻoku fuakava ʻaki ʻae falelotu lahi, ʻoku ne fuakava ki ai, pea mo ia ʻoku nofo ʻi ai.
22 And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
Pea ko ia te ne fuakava ʻaki ʻae langi, ʻoku fuakava ki he ʻafioʻanga ʻoe ʻOtua, pea mo ia ʻoku nofo ʻi ai.
23 Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye tithe mynt, and annyse, and cummyn, and leaue the weightier matters of the law, as iudgement, and mercy and fidelitie. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue left the other.
“ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! Koeʻuhi ʻoku mou tukuhau ʻi he mini, mo e ʻaneto, mo e kumino, ka ʻoku mou taʻetokanga ki he ngaahi meʻa mamafa ʻoe fono, ko e fai totonu, mo e loto ʻofa, mo e tui: naʻe totonu hoʻomou fai eni, kaeʻoua naʻa liʻaki ʻena.
24 Ye blinde guides, which straine out a gnat, and swallowe a camell.
Ko e kau takimuʻa kui, ʻoku mou heuʻi ʻae lango, kae folo ʻae kāmeli.
25 Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye make cleane the vtter side of the cup, and of the platter: but within they are ful of briberie and excesse.
“ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! He ʻoku mou fakamaʻa ʻae tuʻa ipu inu mo e ipu kai, ka ʻoku fonu ʻi loto ʻi he fakamālohi mo e holi kovi.
26 Thou blinde Pharise, cleanse first the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be cleane also.
ʻAe Fālesi kui, tomuʻa fakamaʻa ʻae loto ipu inu mo e ipu kai, koeʻuhi ke maʻa ai foki ʻae tuʻa[ipu].
27 Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye are like vnto whited tombes, which appeare beautifull outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and all filthines.
“ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! He ʻoku mou tatau mo e fonualoto kuo vali hinehina, ʻaia ʻoku matamatalelei moʻoni ʻituʻa, ka ʻoku fonu ʻi loto ʻi he ngaahi hui ʻoe kakai mate, mo e meʻa fakalielia kotoa pē.
28 So are ye also: for outwarde ye appeare righteous vnto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquitie.
ʻOku pehē pe ʻakimoutolu foki, ʻoku mou ha māʻoniʻoni ʻituʻa ki he kakai, ka ʻoku mou fonu ʻi loto ʻi he mālualoi mo e angahia.
29 Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye build the tombes of the Prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
“ʻE malaʻia ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau tangata tohi mo e Fālesi, ko e mālualoi! He ʻoku mou ngaohi ʻae tanuʻanga ʻoe kau palōfita, ʻo fakasanisani ʻae fonualoto ʻoe kakai māʻoniʻoni,
30 And say, If we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we would not haue bene partners with them in the blood of the Prophets.
ʻo mou pehē, ‘Ka ne mau moʻui ʻi he ʻaho ʻo ʻemau ngaahi tamai, pehē, ʻe ʻikai te mau kau mo kinautolu ʻi he toto ʻoe kau palōfita.’
31 So then ye be witnesses vnto your selues, that ye are the children of them that murthered the Prophets.
“Ko ia ko e kau fakamoʻoni ʻakimoutolu kiate kimoutolu, ko e fānau ʻakimoutolu ʻanautolu naʻe tāmateʻi ʻae kau palōfita.
32 Fulfill ye also ye measure of your fathers.
Ko ia mou fakafonu ʻae ipu fuofua ʻa hoʻomou ngaahi tamai.
33 O serpents, the generation of vipers, howe should ye escape the damnation of hell! (Geenna )
ʻAe fanga ngata, ʻae fānau ʻae ngata fekai! Te mou hao fēfeeʻi mei he malaʻia ʻo heli? (Geenna )
34 Wherefore beholde, I send vnto you Prophets, and wise men, and Scribes, and of them ye shall kill and crucifie: and of them shall ye scourge in your Synagogues, and persecute from citie to citie,
Ko ia, vakai, ʻoku ou fekau atu kiate kimoutolu ʻae kau palōfita, mo e kau tangata poto, mo e kau tangata tohi: pea ko honau niʻihi te mou tāmateʻi ʻo tutuki ki he ʻakau: pea ko honau niʻihi te mou haha ʻi homou ngaahi falelotu, ʻo fakatangaʻi mei he kolo ki he kolo:
35 That vpon you may come all the righteous blood that was shed vpon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, vnto the blood of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whome ye slewe betweene the Temple and the altar.
Koeʻuhi ʻe ʻeke ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae toto māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē kuo lilingi ʻi māmani mei he toto ʻo ʻEpeli māʻoniʻoni, ʻo hoko ki he toto ʻo Sakalaia ko e foha ʻo Palakia, ʻaia naʻa mou tāmateʻi ʻi he vahaʻa ʻoe potu toputapu mo e ʻesifeilaulau.
36 Verely I say vnto you, all these things shall come vpon this generation.
Ko ʻeku tala moʻoni atu kiate kimoutolu, ʻE hoko ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē ki he toʻutangata ni.
37 Hierusalem, Hierusalem, which killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent to thee, how often would I haue gathered thy children together, as the henne gathereth her chickins vnder her wings, and ye would not!
“ʻE Selūsalema, Selūsalema, ʻa Koe ʻoku ke tāmateʻi ʻae kau palōfita, mo ke tolongaki ʻaki ʻae maka ʻakinautolu ʻoku fekau atu kiate koe, kuo liunga fiha ʻeku fie tānaki fakataha hoʻo fānau, ʻo hangē ko e tānaki fakataha ʻe he motuʻa moa ʻene fānau ʻi hono lalo kapakau, ka naʻe ʻikai te mou loto[ki ai!]
38 Beholde, your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate,
Vakai, kuo siʻaki homou fale kiate kimoutolu ke lala ʻaupito.
39 For I say vnto you, ye shall not see mee henceforth till that ye say, Blessed is he that commeth in the Name of the Lord.
He ʻoku ou tala atu kiate kimoutolu, Ngata mei heni, ʻe ʻikai te mou mamata kiate au, kaeʻoua ke mou pehē, ‘ʻOku monūʻia ia ʻoku haʻu ʻi he huafa ʻoe ʻEiki.’”
