Judges 4
1 And the children of Israel began againe to do wickedly in the sight of the Lord when Ehud was dead.
Mais les enfants d'Israël se mirent encore à faire ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, après qu'Ehud fut mort.
2 And the Lord sold them into the hande of Iabin King of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor, whose chiefe Captaine was called Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
C'est pourquoi l'Eternel les vendit en la main de Jabin, Roi de Canaan, qui régnait en Hatsor, [et] de l'armée duquel Sisera était le chef, qui demeurait à Haroseth des Nations.
3 Then the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord: (for he had nine hundreth charets of yron, and twentie yeeres he had vexed the children of Israel very sore)
Et les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Eternel; car [Jabin] avait neuf cents chariots de fer, et il avait violemment opprimé les enfants d'Israël durant vingt ans.
4 And at that time Deborah a Prophetesse the wife of Lapidoth iudged Israel.
En ce temps-là Débora Prophétesse, femme de Lappidoth, jugeait Israël.
5 And this Deborah dwelt vnder a palme tree, betweene Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim, and the children of Israel came vp to her for iudgement.
Et Débora se tenait sous un palmier entre Rama et Bethel, en la montagne d'Ephraïm; et les enfants d'Israël montaient vers elle pour être jugés.
6 Then shee sent and called Barak the sonne of Abinoam out of Kadesh of Naphtali, and sayd vnto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Goe, and drawe towarde mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousande men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
Or elle envoya appeler Barac, fils d'Abinoham de Kédés de Nephthali, et lui dit: L'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël n'a-t-il pas commandé, [et dit?] Va, [et] fais amas de gens en la montagne de Tabor, et prends avec toi dix mille hommes des enfants de Nephthali, et des enfants de Zabulon.
7 And I wil drawe vnto thee to the riuer Kishon Sisera, the captaine of Iabins armie with his charets, and his multitude, and wil deliuer him into thine hand.
Et j'attirerai à toi au torrent de Kison, Sisera, chef de l'armée de Jabin, avec ses chariots et la multitude de ses gens, et je le livrerai entre tes mains.
8 And Barak sayd vnto her, If thou wilt go with me, I will go: but if thou wilt not goe with me, I will not go.
Et Barac lui dit: Si tu viens avec moi, j'y irai; mais si tu ne viens pas avec moi, je n'y irai point.
9 Then shee answered, I will surely goe with thee, but this iourney that thou takest, shall not be for thine honour: for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Et elle répondit: Je ne manquerai pas d'aller avec toi; mais tu n'auras pas d'honneur dans le chemin dans lequel tu iras; car l'Eternel vendra Sisera en la main d'une femme. Débora donc se levant, s'en alla avec Barac à Kédés.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he went vp on his feete with ten thousand men, and Deborah went vp with him.
Et Barac ayant assemblé Zabulon et Nephthali en Kédés, fit monter après soi dix mille hommes; et Débora monta avec lui.
11 (Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in lawe of Moses, was departed from the Kenites, and pitched his tent vntill the playne of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh)
Or Héber Kénien, des enfants de Hobab, beau-père de Moïse, s'étant séparé de Kaïn, avait tendu ses tentes jusques au bois de chênes de Tsahanajim, qui est près de Kédés.
12 Then they shewed Sisera, that Barak the sonne of Abinoam was gone vp to mout Tabor.
Et on rapporta à Sisera que Barac, fils d'Abinoham, était monté en la montagne de Tabor.
13 And Sisera called for all his charets, euen nine hundreth charets of yron, and all the people that were with him from Harosheth of the Gentiles, vnto the riuer Kishon.
Et Sisera assembla tous ses chariots, [savoir] neuf cents chariots de fer, et tout le peuple qui était avec lui, depuis Haroseth des Nations, jusqu'au torrent de Kison.
14 Then Deborah sayd vnto Barak, Vp: for this is the day that the Lord hath deliuered Sisera into thine hand. Is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went downe from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
Et Débora dit à Barac: Lève-toi, car c'est ici le jour auquel l'Eternel a livré Sisera en ta main. L'Eternel n'est-il pas sorti devant toi? Barac donc descendit de la montagne de Tabor, et dix mille hommes après lui.
15 And the Lord destroyed Sisera and all his charets, and al his hoste with the edge of the sword before Barak, so that Sisera lighted downe off his charet, and fled away on his feete.
Et l'Eternel frappa Sisera, et tous ses chariots, et toute l'armée, au tranchant de l'épée, devant Barac; et Sisera descendit du chariot, et s'enfuit à pied.
16 But Barak pursued after the charets, and after the hoste vnto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the hoste of Sisera fel vpon the edge of the sworde: there was not a man left.
Et Barac poursuivit les chariots et l'armée jusqu'à Haroseth des Nations; et toute l'armée de Sisera fut passée au fil de l'épée; il n'en demeura pas un seul.
17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feete to the tent of Iael the wife of Heber the Kenite: (for peace was betweene Iabin the king of Hazor, and betweene the house of Heber the Kenite)
Et Sisera s'enfuit à pied dans la tente de Jahel, femme de Héber Kénien; car il y avait paix entre Jabin, Roi de Hatsor, et la maison de Héber Kénien.
18 And Iael went out to meete Sisera, and sayd vnto him, Turne in, my lord, turne in to me: feare not. And when he had turned in vnto her into her tent, she couered him with a mantell.
Et Jahel étant sortie au-devant de Sisera, lui dit: Mon seigneur! retire-toi, retire-toi chez moi, ne crains point. Il se retira donc chez elle dans la tente, et elle le couvrit d'une couverture.
19 And he said vnto her, Giue me, I pray thee, a litle water to drinke: for I am thirstie. And shee opened a bottel of milke, and gaue him drinke, and couered him.
Puis il lui dit: Je te prie, donne-moi un peu d'eau à boire, car j'ai soif. Et elle ouvrant un baril de lait lui donna à boire, et le couvrit.
20 Againe he sayde vnto her, Stande in the doore of the tent, and when any man doth come and enquire of thee, saying, Is any man there? thou shalt say, Nay.
Il lui dit aussi: Demeure à l'entrée de la tente, et au cas que quelqu'un vienne, et t'interroge, disant: Y a-t-il ici quelqu'un? alors tu répondras: Non.
21 Then Iael Hebers wife tooke a nayle of the tent, and tooke an hammer in her hande, and went softly vnto him, and smote the nayle into his temples, and fastened it into the grounde, (for he was fast a sleepe and weary) and so he dyed.
Et Jahel, femme de Héber, prit un clou de la tente, et prenant un marteau en sa main, elle vint à lui doucement; et lui enfonça un clou dans sa tempe, lequel entra dans la terre pendant qu'il dormait profondément, car il était fort las; et ainsi il mourut.
22 And behold, as Barak pursued after Sisera, Iael came out to meete him, and sayd vnto him, Come, and I wil shewe thee the man, whome thou seekest: and when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nayle in his temples.
Et voici, Barac poursuivait Sisera, et Jahel sortit au-devant de lui, et lui dit: Viens, et je te montrerai l'homme que tu cherches. Et Barac entra chez elle, et voici, Sisera était étendu mort, et le clou était dans sa tempe.
23 So God brought downe Iabin the King of Canaan that day before the children of Israel.
En ce jour-là donc Dieu humilia Jabin, Roi de Canaan, devant les enfants d'Israël.
24 And the hande of the children of Israel prospered, and preuailed against Iabin the King of Canaan, vntill they had destroyed Iabin King of Canaan.
Et la puissance des enfants d'Israël s'avançait et se renforçait de plus en plus contre Jabin, Roi de Canaan, jusqu'à ce qu'ils l'eurent exterminé.
