Judges 21
1 Moreouer, the men of Israel sware in Mizpeh, saying, None of vs shall giue his daughter vnto the Beniamites to wyfe.
I Mispa hadde Israels-mennerne svore: «Ingen av oss skal gjeva dotter si til nokon benjaminit!»
2 And the people came vnto ye house of God and abode there till euen before God, and lift vp their voyces, and wept with great lamentation,
Men då folket kom til Betel, sat dei der for Guds åsyn alt til det vart kveld, og dei storgret,
3 And sayde, O Lord God of Israel, why is this come to passe in Israel, that this day one tribe of Israel should want?
og sagde: «Herre, Israels Gud, kvi skulde dette henda i Israel at me i dag lyt sakna ei heil ætt av Israel?»
4 And on the morow the people rose vp and made there an altar, and offred burnt offrings and peace offrings.
Tidleg den andre morgonen bygde folket eit altar der, og bar fram brennoffer og takkoffer.
5 Then the children of Israel said, Who is he among all the tribes of Israel, that came not vp with the Congregation vnto the Lord? for they had made a great othe concerning him that came not vp to the Lord to Mizpeh, saying, Let him die the death.
Då sagde Israels-sønerne: «Var det millom heile Israels-folket nokon mann som ikkje kom upp til møtet hjå Herren?» For dei hadde svore sin dyraste eid at den som ikkje kom upp til Herren, til Mispa, han skulde lata livet.
6 And the children of Israel were sory for Beniamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
Israels-sønerne syrgde yver Benjamin, bror sin, og sagde: «I dag er det hoggi burt ei heil grein av Israel!
7 How shall we do for wiues to them that remaine, seeing we haue sworne by the Lord, that we will not giue them of our daughters to wiues?
Kva skal me gjera for dei som att er, so dei kann få seg konor, når me hev svore ved Herren at me ikkje vil gjeva dei nokor av døtterne våre?»
8 Also they saide, Is there any of the tribes of Israel that came not vp to Mizpeh to the Lord? and beholde, there came none of Iabesh Gilead vnto the hoste and to the Congregation.
So spurde dei att: «Var det nokon mann av Israels-folket som ikkje kom upp til Herren i Mispa?» Då fekk dei vita at frå Jabes i Gilead var ingen komen til lægret eller til møtet;
9 For when the people were vewed; beholde, none of the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead were there.
folket vart mynstra, og då synte det seg at ingen av Jabes-buarne frå Gilead var der.
10 Therefore the Congregation sent thither twelue thousande men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Goe, and smite the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, both women, and children.
So sende lyden tolv tusund stridsmenner dit, og sagde til deim: «Far av stad og hogg ned Jabes-buarne i Gilead med konor og born!
11 And this is it that ye shall do: ye shall vtterly destroye all the males and all the women that haue lien by men.
Høyr no kva de skal gjera: Kvar karmann, og kvar kvinna som hev vore nær nokon karmann og havt samlega med honom, skal de bannstøyta og rydja ut!»
12 And they found among the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead foure hundreth maides, virgins that had knowne no man by lying with any male: and they brought them vnto the hoste to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
Då fann dei millom Jabes-buarne i Gilead fire hundrad ungmøyar som aldri hadde vore nær nokon mann og havt samlega med honom, og deim tok dei med seg til lægret i Silo i Kana’ans-land.
13 Then the whole Congregation sent and spake with the children of Beniamin that were in the rocke of Rimmon, and called peaceably vnto them:
Og heile lyden sende bod til Benjamins-sønerne som var på Rimmonshøgdi, og lova deim fred.
14 And Beniamin came againe at that time, and they gaue them wiues which they had saued aliue of the women of Iabesh Gilead: but they had not so ynough for them.
Då kom benjaminitarne att med ein gong, og Israels-mennerne let deim få dei kvinnorne som dei hadde spart etter av Jabes-folket i Gilead; men det rakk ikkje til for deim.
15 And the people were sorie for Beniamin, because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
Og folket syrgde endå yver Benjamin; for Herren hadde hogge eit skard i Israels-folket.
16 Therefore the Elders of the Congregation said, How shall we doe for wiues to the remnant? for the women of Beniamin are destroyed.
Og styresmennerne for lyden sagde: «Kva skal me gjera for deim som att er, so dei kann få seg konor, sidan alle kvinnor i Benjamins-ætti er utrudde?
17 And they saide, there must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Beniamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.
Dei som liver etter av Benjamin, skal få det som ætti hev ått, » sagde dei; «for ei ætt av Israel må ikkje ganga til grunnar.
18 Howbeit we may not giue them wiues of our daughters: for the childre of Israel had sworne, saying, Cursed be he that giueth a wise to Beniamin.
Men me kann ikkje gjeva deim nokor av døtterne våre.» For Israels-sønerne hadde lyst ei våbøn, og sagt: «Forbanna vere den som gjev dotter si til ein benjaminit!»
19 Therefore they said, Beholde, there is a feast of the Lord euery yere in Shiloh in a place, which is on the Northside of Beth-el, and on the Eastside of the way that goeth vp from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the South of Lebonah.
«Men høyr no!» sagde dei: «År um anna held dei ei høgtid for Herren i Silo, som ligg nordanfor Betel, austanfor storvegen som ber frå Betel upp til Sikem, og sunnanfor Lebona.
20 Therefore they commanded the children of Beniamin, saying, Goe, and lye in waite in the vineyardes.
Far dit», sagde dei til Benjamins-sønerne, «og legg dykk på lur i vinhagarne!
21 And when ye see that the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catche you euery man a wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and goe into the land of Beniamin.
Når de då ser at Silo-møyarne kjem ut og trør dansen, skal de springa fram or vinhagarne og rana dykk kvar si kona millom Silo-møyarne, og so fara heim til Benjaminslandet!
22 And when their fathers or their brethren come vnto vs to complaine, we wil say vnto them, Haue pitie on them for our sakes, because we reserued not to eche man his wife in the warre, and because ye haue not giuen vnto them hitherto, ye haue sinned.
Og når federne eller brørne deira kjem og kjærer seg for oss, so skal me segja til deim: «Unn oss desse møyarne! For me vann ikkje konor åt deim alle i striden. Og det er ikkje de som hev gjeve deim møyarne; elles hadde de no havt skuld på dykk.»»
23 And the children of Beniamin did so, and tooke wiues of them that danced according to their nomber: which they tooke, and went away, and returned to their inheritance, and repaired the cities and dwelt in them.
Og Benjamins-sønerne gjorde so, og henta seg kvar si kona millom møyarne som dei rana på dansarvollen. So for dei heim att til odelslandet sitt, og bygde upp att byarne og vart buande der.
24 So the children of Israel departed thence at that time, euery man to his tribe, and to his familie, and went out from thence euery man to his inheritance.
På same tid drog Israels-sønerne og burt derifrå, kvar til si bygd og si ætt; kvar for heim til sin odelsgard.
25 In those dayes there was no King in Israel, but euery man did that which was good in his eyes.
I dei dagar var det ingen konge i Israel; kvar gjorde som han hadde hug til.
