Joshua 8
1 After, the Lord saide vnto Ioshua, Feare not, neither bee thou faint hearted: take all the men of warre with thee and arise, go vp to Ai: beholde, I haue giuen into thine hand the King of Ai, and his people, and his citie, and his land.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Đừng sợ, hãy đem toàn quân đi đánh A-hi, vì Ta cho con cả vua lẫn dân, cả thành lẫn đất này.
2 And thou shalt doe to Ai and to the King thereof, as thou didst vnto Iericho and to the King thereof: neuerthelesse the spoyle thereof and the cattell thereof shall ye take vnto you for a praye: thou shalt lye in wait against the citie on the backside thereof.
Con hãy đối xử với A-hi và vua thành này như con đã đối xử với Giê-ri-cô, chỉ có điều khác là được giữ chiến lợi phẩm và súc vật bắt được. Hãy mai phục phía sau thành này.”
3 Then Ioshua arose, and all the men of warre to goe vp against Ai: and Ioshua chose out thirtie thousand strong men, and valiant, and sent them away by night.
Vậy, Giô-suê đem toàn quân đến A-hi, Ông chọn 30.000 chiến sĩ dũng cảm sai đi trong đêm ấy.
4 And he commanded them, saying, Behold, yee shall lye in waite against the citie on the backeside of the citie: goe not very farre from the citie, but be ye all in a readinesse.
Ông dặn họ: “Hãy mai phục phía sau thành. Đừng ở quá xa, tất cả phải trong tư thế sẵn sàng chiến đấu.
5 And I and all the people that are with me, will approche vnto the citie: and when they shall come out against vs, as they did at the first time, then will we flee before them.
Ta và tất cả quân còn lại sẽ tiến đến trước thành. Địch quân sẽ kéo ra nghênh chiến, và như lần trước, chúng ta sẽ chạy.
6 For they wil come out after vs, till we haue brought them out of the citie: for they will say, They flee before vs as at the first time: so we will flee before them.
Chúng sẽ đuổi theo, bảo rằng: ‘Chúng nó lại chạy như lần trước rồi.’ Và như thế, chúng ta dụ họ ra khỏi thành.
7 Then you shall rise vp from lying in waite and destroy the citie: for the Lord your God wil deliuer it into your hand.
Lúc ấy, phục binh hãy xông lên chiếm thành, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em đã cho chúng ta thành này.
8 And when ye haue taken the citie, ye shall set it on fire: according to the commandement of the Lord shall ye do: behold, I haue charged you.
Phải phóng hỏa đốt thành theo lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu. Tất cả phải nhớ lời dặn.”
9 Ioshua then sent them foorth, and they went to lye in waite, and abode betweene Beth-el and Ai, on the Westside of Ai: but Ioshua lodged that night among the people.
Đêm ấy, phục binh đến mai phục tại khoảng giữa Bê-tên và phía tây A-hi, còn Giô-suê và đạo quân còn lại vẫn ở nguyên trong trại tại Giê-ri-cô.
10 And Ioshua rose vp early in the morning, and nombred the people: and he and the Elders of Israel went vp before the people against Ai.
Sáng hôm sau, Giô-suê dậy sớm kiểm điểm quân đội, rồi cùng các trưởng lão Ít-ra-ên dẫn quân đi đánh A-hi.
11 Also all the men of warre that were with him went vp and drewe neere, and came against the citie, and pitched on the Northside of Ai: and there was a valley betweene them and Ai.
Họ đến khá gần thành, chỉ cách một thung lũng nữa là đến A-hi. Họ cắm trại tại đó, về phía bắc của thành.
12 And hee tooke about fiue thousande men, and set them to lye in waite betweene Beth-el and Ai, on the Westside of the citie.
Giô-suê cắt thêm 5.000 quân nữa đi mai phục giữa Bê-tên và phía tây A-hi.
13 And the people set all the hoste that was on the Northside against the citie, and the liers in waite on the West, against the citie: and Ioshua went the same night into the mids of the valley.
Vậy, toán chủ lực đóng ở phía bắc, còn phục binh nằm ở phía tây thành. Đêm ấy, Giô-suê một mình đi vào giữa thung lũng.
14 And when the King of Ai sawe it, then the men of the citie hasted and rose vp earely, and went out against Israel to battell, hee and all his people at the time appointed, before the plaine: for he knew not that any lay in waite against him on the backeside of the citie.
Khi thấy người Ít-ra-ên, vua A-hi vội vàng đốc thúc quân sĩ dậy sớm. Họ kéo nhau ra khỏi thành, tiến về phía đồng bằng, đến một điểm tập trung định sẵn để nghênh chiến. Nhưng vua A-hi không ngờ có một cánh quân mai phục phía sau thành.
15 Then Ioshua and all Israel as beaten before them, fled by the way of the wildernes.
Giô-suê và chủ lực quân Ít-ra-ên giả thua, bỏ chạy về phía hoang mạc.
16 And all the people of the citie were called together, to pursue after them: and they pursued after Ioshua, and were drawen away out of the city,
Người A-hi gọi nhau rượt đuổi quân thù và càng lúc họ càng ra xa thành.
17 So that there was not a man left in Ai, nor in Beth-el, that went not out after Israel: and they left the citie open, and pursued after Israel.
Và như thế, thành A-hi và Bê-tên đều bỏ trống, không còn một người canh giữ.
18 Then the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Stretch out the speare that is in thine hande, towarde Ai: for I wil giue it into thine hand: and Ioshua stretched out the speare that hee had in his hand, toward the citie.
Lúc ấy, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Hướng mũi giáo của con về thành A-hi, vì Ta cho con thành ấy.” Giô-suê vâng lời.
19 And they that lay in wait, arose quickly out of their place, and ranne as soone as he had stretched out his hand, and they entred into the citie, and tooke it, and hasted, and set the citie on fire.
Ngay khi ông đưa giáo chỉ thành A-hi, phục binh nhanh chóng rời vị trí, xông vào chiếm thành, rồi nổi lửa đốt thành.
20 And the men of Ai looked behinde them, and sawe it: for loe, the smoke of the citie ascended vp to heauen, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: for the people that fled to the wildernesse, turned backe vpon the pursuers.
Quân A-hi quay lại, thấy thành đang cháy, đồng thời quân Ít-ra-ên quay lại phản công, người A-hi lại vào thế tiến thoái lưỡng nan.
21 When Ioshua and all Israel sawe that they that lay in waite, had taken the citie, and that the smoke of the citie mounted vp, then they turned againe and slewe the men of Ai.
Giô-suê và quân sĩ theo ông thấy khói, biết rằng cánh phục binh đã chiếm thành, liền quay lại phản công người A-hi.
22 Also the other issued out of the citie against them: so were they in the middes of Israel, these being on the one side, and the rest on the other side: and they slewe them, so that they let none of them remaine nor escape.
Quân Ít-ra-ên từ thành xông ra, quân phía trước thành phản công lại. Người Ít-ra-ên hai mặt xáp lại, chém giết đến nỗi không còn một người A-hi nào sống sót hay chạy thoát được.
23 And the King of Ai they tooke aliue, and brought him to Ioshua.
Họ bắt sống vua A-hi và giải đến cho Giô-suê.
24 And when Israel had made an ende of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the fielde, that is, in the wildernesse, where they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sworde, vntill they were consumed, all the Israelites returned vnto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sworde.
Khi quân Ít-ra-ên đã giết hết người A-hi bên ngoài thành, họ quay vào thành giết những người còn lại.
25 And all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelue thousande, euen all the men of Ai.
Toàn dân A-hi, cả đàn ông lẫn đàn bà gồm chừng 12.000 người, đều bị tiêu diệt hôm ấy.
26 For Ioshua drewe not his hande backe againe which he had stretched out with the speare, vntill hee had vtterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
Giô-suê tiếp tục chỉ mũi giáo vào thành cho đến khi mọi người A-hi bị giết hết.
27 Onely the cattell and the spoyle of this citie, Israel tooke for a praye vnto themselues, according vnto the worde of the Lord, which hee commanded Ioshua.
Người Ít-ra-ên bắt súc vật, thu chiến lợi phẩm cho mình, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu có bảo Giô-suê cho phép.
28 And Ioshua burnt Ai, and made it an heape for euer, and a wildernes vnto this day.
Vậy, thành A-hi bị Giô-suê thiêu hủy, đến nay chỉ còn một đống gạch vụn.
29 And the King of Ai hee hanged on a tree, vnto the euening. And as soone as the sunne was down, Ioshua commanded that they should take his carkeis downe from the tree, and cast it at the entring of ye gate of the city, and lay thereon a great heape of stones, that remaineth vnto this day.
Giô-suê treo vua A-hi lên cây cho đến mặt trời lặn. Tối đó ông cho người gỡ xác xuống, ném ra ngoài cổng thành, rồi lấy đá chất lên thành một đống lớn, còn cho đến ngày nay.
30 Then Ioshua built an altar vnto the Lord God of Israel, in mount Ebal,
Sau đó, Giô-suê xây một bàn thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên trên Núi Ê-banh,
31 As Moses the seruant of the Lord had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the booke of the Lawe of Moses, an altar of whole stone, ouer which no man had lift an yron: and they offered thereon burnt offrings vnto the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings.
đúng theo lệnh của Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa Hằng Hữu. Bàn thờ này được xây bằng đá nguyên tảng, không đục đẽo, như đã chép trong Sách Luật của Môi-se. Trên bàn thờ ấy, người ta dâng tế lễ thiêu và tế lễ cảm tạ cho Chúa.
32 Also he wrote there vpon the stones, a rehearsall of the Lawe of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
Giô-suê khắc trên đá bàn thờ bộ luật Môi-se, trước sự chứng kiến của dân chúng Ít-ra-ên.
33 And all Israel (and their Elders, and officers and their iudges stoode on this side of the Arke, and on that side, before the Priestes of the Leuites, which bare the Arke of the couenant of the Lord) as well the stranger, as he that is borne in the countrey: halfe of them were ouer against mount Gerizim, and halfe of them ouer against mount Ebal, as Moses the seruant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should blesse the people of Israel.
Vì Môi-se có dặn trước về việc chúc phước cho người Ít-ra-ên, nên hôm ấy, toàn dân kể cả các trưởng lão, viên phán quan, công dân, và ngoại kiều đều chia nhau ra làm hai nhóm: Phân nửa đứng trước núi Ga-ri-xim, phân nửa đứng trước Núi Ê-banh. Giữa hai nhóm ấy có Hòm Giao Ước của Chúa Hằng Hữu với các thầy tế lễ người Lê-vi, những người khiêng Hòm Giao Ước.
34 Then afterwarde hee read all the wordes of the Lawe, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the booke of the Lawe.
Giô-suê đọc tất cả những lời chúc phước và những lời nguyền rủa đã được ghi trong Sách Luật.
35 There was not a worde of all that Moses had commanded, which Ioshua read not before all the Congregation of Israel, as well before the women and the children, as the stranger that was conuersant among them.
Mọi người, gồm cả nam phụ lão ấu và khách ngoại kiều, đều nghe Giô-suê đọc tất cả luật lệ của Môi-se.
