Joel 2

1 Blowe the trumpet in Zion, and shoute in mine holy mountaine: let all the inhabitants of the lande tremble: for the day of the Lord is come: for it is at hand.

Sonnez du cor en Sion, et sonnez avec un retentissement bruyant en la montagne de ma sainteté; que tous les habitants du pays tremblent; car la journée de l'Eternel vient; car elle est proche.

2 A day of darkenesse, and of blacknesse, a day of cloudes, and obscuritie, as the morning spred vpon the mountaines, so is there a great people, and a mighty: there was none like it from the beginning, neither shalbe any more after it, vnto the yeeres of many generations.

Journée de ténèbres et d'obscurité; journée de nuées et de brouillards. Comme l'aube du jour s'étend sur les montagnes, [ainsi s'étend] un peuple grand et puissant, auquel il n'[y a] point eu de semblable de tout temps, et après lequel il n'y en aura point [de semblable] dans la suite des siècles.

3 A fire deuoureth before him, and behinde him a flame burneth vp: the land is as the garden of Eden before him, and behinde him a desolate wildernesse, so that nothing shall escape him.

Le feu dévore devant sa face, et derrière lui la flamme brûle; le pays était avant sa venue comme le jardin d'Héden; et après qu'il sera parti [il sera comme] un désert de désolation; et même il n'y aura rien qui lui échappe.

4 The beholding of him is like the sight of horses, and like the horsemen, so shall they runne.

C'est, à le voir, comme si on voyait des chevaux, et ils courront comme des gens de cheval;

5 Like the noyse of charrets in the toppes of the mountaines shall they leape, like the noyse of a flame of fire that deuoureth the stubble, and as a mightie people prepared to the battel.

Et ils sauteront menant un bruit semblable à celui des chariots sur les sommets des montagnes, et au bruit d'une flamme de feu, qui dévore du chaume; et ils seront comme un peuple puissant rangé en bataille.

6 Before his face shall the people tremble: all faces shall gather blackenesse.

Les peuples trembleront en le voyant; tous les visages en deviendront pâles et livides.

7 They shall runne like strong men, and goe vp to the wall like men of warre, and euery man shall goe forward in his wayes, and they shall not stay in their paths.

Ils courront comme des gens vaillants, et monteront sur la muraille comme des gens de guerre; ils marcheront chacun en son rang, et ne se détourneront point de leurs chemins.

8 Neither shall one thrust another, but euery one shall walke in his path: and when they fall vpon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

L'un ne pressera point l'autre, mais chacun marchera dans son chemin, ils se jetteront au travers des épées, et ne seront point blessés.

9 They shall runne to and from in the citie: they shall runne vpon the wall: they shall clime vp vpon the houses, and enter in at ye windowes like ye thiefe.

Ils iront çà et là par la ville, ils courront sur la muraille, ils monteront sur les maisons, ils entreront par les fenêtres comme le larron.

10 The earth shall tremble before him, ye heauens shall shake, the sunne and the moone shalbe darke, and the starres shall withdraw their shining,

La terre tremblera devant lui, les cieux seront ébranlés, le soleil et la lune seront obscurcis, et les étoiles retireront leur lueur.

11 And the Lord shall vtter his voyce before his hoste: for his hoste is very great: for he is strog that doeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible, and who can abide it?

Aussi l'Eternel fera entendre sa voix devant son armée, parce que son camp sera très-grand; car l'exécuteur de sa parole [sera] puissant; certainement la journée de l'Eternel est grande et terrible; et qui la pourra soutenir?

12 Therefore also now the Lord sayth, Turne you vnto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning,

Maintenant donc aussi, dit l'Eternel, retournez-vous jusqu'à moi de tout votre cœur, avec jeûne, avec larmes, et lamentation.

13 And rent your heart, and not your clothes: and turne vnto the Lord your God, for he is gratious, and mercifull, slowe to anger, and of great kindnes, and repenteth him of the euill.

Et déchirez vos cœurs, et non pas vos vêtements, et retournez à l'Eternel votre Dieu; car il est miséricordieux et pitoyable, tardif à colère, et abondant en miséricorde, et qui se repent d'avoir affligé.

14 Who knoweth, is he wil returne and repent and leaue a blessing behinde him, euen a meate offring, and a drinke offring vnto ye Lord your God?

Qui sait si l'Eternel votre Dieu ne viendra point à se repentir, et s'il ne laissera point après soi bénédiction, gâteau, et aspersion?

15 Blowe the trumpet in Zion, sanctifie a fast, call a solemne assembly.

Sonnez du cor en Sion, sanctifiez le jeûne, publiez l'assemblée solennelle.

16 Gather the people: sanctifie the congregation, gather the elders: assemble the children, and those that sucke the breastes: let the bridegrome go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her bride chamber.

Assemblez le peuple, sanctifiez la congrégation, amassez les anciens, assemblez les enfants, et ceux qui sucent les mamelles; que le nouveau marié sorte de son cabinet, et la nouvelle mariée de sa chambre nuptiale.

17 Let the Priestes, the ministers of the Lord weepe betweene the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and giue not thine heritage into reproche that the heathen should rule ouer them. Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

Que les Sacrificateurs qui font le service de l'Eternel pleurent entre le porche et l'autel, et qu'ils disent: Eternel, pardonne à ton peuple, et n'expose point ton héritage à l'opprobre, tellement que les nations en fassent le sujet de leurs railleries. Pourquoi dirait-on entre les peuples: Où est leur Dieu?

18 Then will the Lord be ielous ouer his land, and spare his people.

Or l'Eternel a été jaloux de sa terre, et il a été ému de compassion envers son peuple.

19 Yea, the Lord wil answere and say vnto his people, Beholde, I will send you corne, and wine, and oyle, and you shalbe satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproche among the heathen,

Et l'Eternel a répondu et a dit à son peuple: Voici, je vous enverrai du froment, du bon vin, et de l'huile, et vous en serez rassasiés, et je ne vous exposerai plus à l'opprobre entre les nations.

20 But I will remooue farre off from you the Northren armie, and I will driue him into a land, barren and desolate with his face toward the East sea, and his end to the vtmost sea, and his stinke shall come vp, and his corruption shall ascend, because he hath exalted himselfe to do this.

J'éloignerai de vous [l'armée venue] du Septentrion, et je la pousserai en un pays sec et désolé; la partie antérieure vers la mer Orientale; et celle de derrière, vers la mer Occidentale; sa puanteur montera, et son infection s'élèvera, après avoir fait de grandes choses.

21 Feare not, O land, but be glad, and reioyce: for the Lord wil do great things.

Ne crains point, terre; égaye-toi et te réjouis; car l'Eternel a fait de grandes choses.

22 Be not afrayde, ye beastes of the fielde: for the pastures of the wildernesse are greene: for the tree beareth her fruite: the figge tree and the vine do giue their force.

Ne craignez point, bêtes des champs, car les pâturages du désert ont poussé leur jet, et même les arbres ont pousse leur fruit; le figuier et la vigne ont poussé avec vigueur.

23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and reioyce in the Lord your God: for he hath giuen you the rayne of righteousnes, he wil cause to come downe for you the rayne, euen the first raine, and the latter raine in the first moneth.

Et vous enfants de Sion égayez-vous, et vous réjouissez en l'Eternel votre Dieu; car il vous a donné la pluie selon la justice, et même il a fait couler sur vous la pluie [de la première saison], et celle de la dernière, au premier mois.

24 And the barnes shalbe full of wheate, and the presses shall abound with wine and oyle.

Et les aires seront remplies de froment, et les cuves regorgeront de moût et d'huile.

25 And I will render you the yeeres that the grashopper hath eaten, the canker worme and the caterpiller and the palmer worme, my great hoste which I sent among you.

Ainsi je vous rendrai les [fruits des années] que la sauterelle, le hurebec, le vermisseau, et le hanneton, ma grande armée, que j'avais envoyée contre vous, avait broutés.

26 So you shall eate and be satisfied and praise the Name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt marueilously with you: and my people shall neuer be ashamed.

Vous aurez donc abondamment de quoi manger et être rassasiés; et vous louerez le nom de l'Eternel votre Dieu, qui vous aura fait des choses merveilleuses; et mon peuple ne sera point confus à toujours.

27 Ye shall also know, that I am in the middes of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and none other, and my people shall neuer be ashamed.

Et vous saurez que je suis au milieu d'Israël, et que je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu, et qu'il n'y en a point d'autre; et mon peuple ne sera point confus à toujours.

28 And afterward will I powre out my Spirit vpon all flesh: and your sonnes and your daughters shall prophecie: your olde men shall dreame dreames, and your yong men shall see visions,

Et il arrivera après ces choses que je répandrai mon Esprit sur toute chair; et vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront; vos vieillards songeront des songes, et vos jeunes gens verront des visions.

29 And also vpon the seruants, and vpon the maydes in those dayes wil I powre my Spirit.

Et même en ces jours-là je répandrai mon Esprit sur les serviteurs et sur les servantes.

30 And I will shewe wonders in the heauens and in the earth: blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.

Et je ferai des prodiges dans les cieux et sur la terre, du sang et du feu, et des colonnes de fumée.

31 The sunne shalbe turned into darkenesse, and the moone into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.

Le soleil sera changé en ténèbres et la lune en sang, avant que le jour grand et terrible de l'Eternel vienne.

32 But whosoeuer shall call on the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued: for in mount Zion, and in Ierusale shalbe deliuerance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant, whom the Lord shall call.

Et il arrivera que quiconque invoquera le Nom de l'Eternel sera sauvé; car le salut sera en la montagne de Sion, et dans Jérusalem, comme l'Eternel a dit, et dans les résidus que l'Eternel aura appelés.
