Jeremiah 15
1 Then sayde the Lord vnto me, Though Moses and Samuel stoode before mee, yet mine affection coulde not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them depart.
Yahweh me répondit: Quand Moïse et Samuel se tiendraient devant moi, mon âme ne se tournerait pas vers ce peuple; chasse-les de devant ma face et qu’ils partent!
2 And if they say vnto thee, Whither shall we depart? then tell them, Thus saith the Lord, Such as are appointed to death, vnto death: and such as are for the sworde, to the sworde: and such as are for the famine, to the famine: and such as are for the captiuitie, to the captiuitie.
Et s’ils te disent: « Où irons-nous? » tu leur diras: Ainsi parle Yahweh: Celui qui est pour la mort, à la mort; celui qui est pour l’épée, à l’épée; celui qui est pour la famine, à la famine; et celui qui est pour la captivité, à la captivité.
3 And I wil appoint ouer them foure kindes, sayth the Lord, the sworde to slay, and the dogs to teare in pieces, and the soules of the heauen, and the beastes of the earth to deuoure, and to destroy.
Et je susciterai contre eux quatre familles de fléaux, — oracle de Yahweh: l’épée pour tuer, les chiens pour déchirer, les oiseaux du ciel et les bêtes de la terre pour dévorer et pour détruire.
4 I will scatter them also in all kingdomes of the earth, because of Manasseh the sonne of Hezekiah King of Iudah, for that which he did in Ierusalem.
J’en ferai un objet d’horreur pour tous les royaumes de la terre, à cause de Manassé, fils d’Ézéchias, roi de Juda, pour ce qu’il a fait dans Jérusalem.
5 Who shall then haue pitie vpon thee, O Ierusalem? or who shalbe sorie for thee? or who shall go to pray for thy peace?
Qui donc aura pitié de toi, Jérusalem, qui se lamentera sur toi? Qui se détournera de sa route pour s’informer de ton état?
6 Thou hast forsaken me, sayth the Lord, and gone backward: therefore wil I stretch out mine hand against thee, and destroy thee: for I am weary with repenting.
Tu m’as repoussé, — oracle de Yahweh, pour te retirer en arrière; et je vais étendre ma main sur toi pour te faire périr; je suis las d’avoir pitié.
7 And I wil scatter them with the fanne in the gates of the earth I haue wasted, and destroyed my people, yet they would not returne from their wayes.
Je les vannerai avec le van, aux portes du pays; je priverai d’enfants, je ferai périr mon peuple; ils ne reviennent pas de leurs voies.
8 Their widdowes are increased by mee aboue the sande of the sea: I haue brought vpon them, and against the assembly of the yong men a destroyer at noone day: I haue caused him to fal vpon them, and the citie suddenly, and speedily.
Ses veuves seront plus nombreuses que le sable de la mer. Je leur amènerai, sur la mère du jeune guerrier, le dévastateur en plein midi; je ferai fondre soudain sur elle l’angoisse et l’épouvante.
9 Shee that hath borne seuen, hath bene made weake: her heart hath failed: the sunne hath failed her, whiles it was day: she hath bene confounded, and ashamed, and the residue of them will I deliuer vnto the sworde before their enemies, sayth the Lord.
La mère des sept fils se sent défaillir, elle va rendre l’âme; son soleil se couche pendant qu’il est jour encore; elle est confuse, couverte de honte. Ceux qui resteront, je les livrerai à l’épée devant leurs ennemis, oracle de Yahweh.
10 Wo is mee, my mother, that thou hast borne mee, a contentious man, and a man that striueth with the whole earth I haue neither lent on vsury, nor men haue lent vnto me on vsurie: yet euery one doeth curse me.
Malheur à moi, ô ma mère, parce que tu m’as enfanté, pour être un homme de dispute et de querelle pour tout le pays. Je n’ai rien prêté, et ils ne m’ont rien prêté, et tous me maudissent. —
11 The Lord sayd, Surely thy remnant shall haue wealth: surely I will cause thine enemie to intreate thee in the time of trouble, and in the time of affliction.
Yahweh dit: Oui, je t’affermirai pour ton bien; certainement j’amènerai ton ennemi à te supplier, au temps du malheur et de la détresse.
12 Shall the yron breake the yron, and the brasse that commeth from the North?
Le fer brisera-t-il le fer du nord et l’airain?
13 Thy substance and thy treasures wil I giue to be spoyled without gaine, and that for all thy sinnes euen in all thy borders.
Je livrerai tes biens et tes trésors au pillage, sans paiement, pour tous tes péchés et sur tout ton territoire;
14 And I wil make thee to go with thine enemies into a land that thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burne you.
et je les ferai passer avec tes ennemis dans un pays que tu ne connais pas; car un feu s’est allumé dans ma colère; il brûlera sur vous.
15 O Lord, thou knowest, remember me, and visite me, and reuenge me of my persecuters: take mee not away in the continuance of thine anger: know that for thy sake I haue suffered rebuke.
Tu le sais, Yahweh! Souviens-toi de moi, prends soin de moi, et venge-moi de mes persécuteurs; ne m’enlève pas, dans ta patience envers eux, sache que c’est pour toi que je porte l’opprobre!
16 Thy wordes were founde by me, and I did eate them, and thy worde was vnto me the ioy and reioycing of mine heart: for thy Name is called vpon me, O Lord God of hostes.
Dès que tes paroles se sont présentées, je les ai dévorées; elles sont devenues ma joie, et l’allégresse de mon cœur; car ton nom a été invoqué sur moi, Yahweh, Dieu des armées.
17 I sate not in the assembly of the mockers, neither did I reioyce, but sate alone because of thy plague: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
Je ne me suis point assis dans l’assemblée des rieurs, pour m’y livrer à la gaieté; sous ta main, je me suis assis solitaire, car tu m’avais rempli de courroux.
18 Why is mine heauines continuall? and my plague desperate and cannot be healed? why art thou vnto me as a lyar, and as waters that faile?
Pourquoi ma souffrance est-elle sans fin, et ma plaie douloureuse, rebelle à la guérison? Serais-tu pour moi comme un ruisseau trompeur, comme des eaux sur lesquelles on ne peut compter?
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou returne, then wil I bring thee againe, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take away the precious from the vile, thou shalt be according to my worde: let them returne vnto thee, but returne not thou vnto them.
C’est pourquoi Yahweh parle ainsi: Si tu reviens vers moi, je te ferai revenir, pour que tu te tiennes devant ma face; et si tu sépares ce qui est précieux de ce qui est vil, tu seras comme ma bouche; ils reviendront vers toi, et ce n’est pas toi qui reviendras vers eux.
20 And I will make thee vnto this people a strong brasen wall, and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not preuaile against thee: for I am with thee to saue thee and to deliuer thee, saith ye Lord.
Je ferai de toi, pour ce peuple, une forte muraille d’airain; ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne pourront rien sur toi, car je serai avec toi pour te secourir et te délivrer, — oracle de Yahweh.
21 And I will deliuer thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeeme thee out of the hand of the tyrants.
Je te délivrerai de la main des méchants, et je te rachèterai de la main des violents.
