James 3
1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receiue the greater condemnation.
Meus irmãos, nem todos vocês devem se tornar mestres na igreja, pois vocês sabem que a responsabilidade de quem ensina será bem maior no julgamento.
2 For in many things we sinne all. If any man sinne not in word, he is a perfect man, and able to bridle all the body.
Todos nós cometemos erros, de várias formas. Aquele que não comete erros ao falar é verdadeiramente uma boa pessoa, que consegue controlar todo o seu corpo.
3 Beholde, we put bittes into the horses mouthes, that they should obey vs, and we turne about all their bodie.
Colocamos freios na boca dos cavalos, para que eles nos obedeçam e para que eles sigam para onde queremos.
4 Behold also the shippes, which though they be so great, and are driuen of fierce windes, yet are they turned about with a very small rudder, whither soeuer the gouernour listeth.
Prestem atenção também aos navios: embora eles sejam grandes, e ventos fortes os empurrem pelo mar, eles são orientados por um pequeno leme e vão para a direção que o piloto quer.
5 Euen so the tongue is a litle member, and boasteth of great things: beholde, howe great a thing a litle fire kindleth.
Da mesma forma, a língua é uma parte realmente pequena do corpo, mas consegue se gabar de grandes coisas. Pensem em como uma grande floresta pode ser totalmente consumida pelo fogo por causa de uma pequena chama.
6 And the tongue is fire, yea, a worlde of wickednesse: so is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell. (Geenna g1067)
E a língua é como um fogo! A língua pode se tornar um mundo de maldade entre as partes do corpo. Ela pode fazer com que todo o seu ser caia em desgraça, destruindo a sua vida por completo, pois ela é inflamada pelo fogo da Geena. (Geenna g1067)
7 For the whole nature of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and things of the sea is tamed, and hath bene tamed of the nature of man.
Conseguimos domar todos os tipos de animais, como aves, répteis e criaturas marinhas,
8 But the tongue can no man tame. It is an vnruly euill, full of deadly poyson.
mas ninguém foi capaz de domar a língua, pois ela é uma coisa má, difícil de ser controlada e cheia de veneno mortal.
9 Therewith blesse we God euen the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
Usamos essa mesma língua tanto para abençoar o nosso Senhor e Pai quanto para amaldiçoar pessoas que foram criadas à imagem de Deus;
10 Out of one mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing: my brethren, these things ought not so to be.
tanto bênçãos quanto maldições vêm da mesma boca. Meus irmãos, não é assim que deve ser!
11 Doeth a fountaine send forth at one place sweete water and bitter?
Por acaso, de uma mesma fonte pode jorrar tanto água doce quanto água amarga?
12 Can ye figge tree, my brethren, bring forth oliues, either a vine figges? so can no fountaine make both salt water and sweete.
Amigos, uma figueira não pode produzir azeitonas, e uma videira não produz figos, assim como uma fonte de água salgada não produz água doce.
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew by good conuersation his workes in meekenesse of wisdome.
Quem entre vocês é sábio e inteligente? Então, que prove isso pelo seu bom comportamento, fazendo o que é justo, com bondade e consideração baseadas na sabedoria.
14 But if ye haue bitter enuying and strife in your hearts, reioyce not, neither be liars against the trueth.
Mas se o coração de vocês abriga sentimentos de inveja e de ambição egoísta, não tenham orgulho disso e nem mintam, dizendo que são sábios.
15 This wisedome descendeth not from aboue, but is earthly, sensuall, and deuilish.
Pois essa “sabedoria” não vem do céu; pelo contrário, é algo deste mundo, não espiritual e, sim, demoníaca.
16 For where enuying and strife is, there is sedition, and all maner of euill workes.
Onde quer que haja inveja e ambição egoísta, também haverá confusão e todos os tipos de práticas malignas.
17 But the wisedome that is from aboue, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easie to be intreated, full of mercie and good fruites, without iudging, and without hipocrisie.
Porém, a sabedoria que vem do céu é, antes de tudo, pura e também traz a paz. Ela é gentil e ouve a voz da razão. Essa sabedoria é misericordiosa e é fonte de boas ações. É verdadeira e contrária à hipocrisia.
18 And the fruite of righteousnesse is sowen in peace, of them that make peace.
Aqueles que semeiam a paz colherão a paz do que é verdadeiramente bom e justo.
