Isaiah 14
1 For the Lord wil haue compassion of Iaakob, and wil yet chuse Israel, and cause them to rest in their owne lande: and the stranger shall ioyne him selfe vnto them, and they shall cleaue to the house of Iaakob.
Poiché l’Eterno avrà pietà di Giacobbe, sceglierà ancora Israele, e li ristabilirà sul loro suolo; lo straniero s’unirà ad essi, e si stringerà alla casa di Giacobbe.
2 And the people shall receiue them and bring them to their owne place, and the house of Israel shall possesse them in the land of the Lord, for seruants and handmaids: and they shall take them prisoners, whose captiues they were, and haue rule ouer their oppressours.
I popoli li prenderanno e li ricondurranno al loro luogo, e la casa d’Israele li possederà nel paese dell’Eterno come servi e come serve; essi terranno in cattività quelli che li avean ridotti in cattività, e signoreggeranno sui loro oppressori.
3 And in that day when the Lord shall giue thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy feare, and from the sore bodage, wherein thou didest serue,
E il giorno che l’Eterno t’avrà dato requie dal tuo affanno, dalle tue agitazioni e dalla dura schiavitù alla quale eri stato assoggettato, tu pronunzierai questo canto sul re di Babilonia e dirai:
4 Then shalt thou take vp this prouerbe against the King of Babel, and say, Howe hath the oppressor ceased? and the gold thirsty Babel rested?
Come! l’oppressore ha finito? ha finito l’esattrice d’oro?
5 The Lord hath broken the rodde of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers:
L’Eterno ha spezzato il bastone degli empi, lo scettro dei despoti.
6 Which smote the people in anger with a continuall plague, and ruled the nations in wrath: if any were persecuted, he did not let.
colui che furiosamente percoteva i popoli di colpi senza tregua, colui che dominava irosamente sulle nazioni, è inseguito senza misericordia.
7 The whole worlde is at rest and is quiet: they sing for ioye.
Tutta la terra è in riposo, è tranquilla, la gente manda gridi di gioia.
8 Also the firre trees reioyced of thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid downe, no hewer came vp against vs.
Perfino i cipressi e i cedri del Libano si rallegrano a motivo di te. “Da che sei atterrato, essi dicono, il boscaiolo non sale più contro a noi”.
9 Hel beneath is mooued for thee to meete thee at thy comming, raising vp the deade for thee, euen all the princes of the earth, and hath raised from their thrones all the Kinges of the nations. (Sheol h7585)
Il soggiorno de’ morti, laggiù s’è commosso per te, per venire ad incontrarti alla tua venuta; esso sveglia per te le ombre, tutti i principi della terra; fa alzare dai loro troni tutti i re delle nazioni. (Sheol h7585)
10 All they shall crie, and saie vnto thee, Art thou become weake also as we? art thou become like vnto vs?
Tutti prendon la parola e ti dicono: “Anche tu dunque sei diventato debole come noi? anche tu sei dunque divenuto simile a noi?
11 Thy pompe is brought downe to ye graue, and the sounde of thy violes: the worme is spred vnder thee, and the wormes couer thee. (Sheol h7585)
Il tuo fasto e il suon de’ tuoi saltèri sono stati fatti scendere nel soggiorno de’ morti; sotto di te sta un letto di vermi, e i vermi son la tua coperta”. (Sheol h7585)
12 How art thou fallen from heauen, O Lucifer, sonne of the morning? and cutte downe to the grounde, which didest cast lottes vpon the nations?
Come mai sei caduto dal cielo, o astro mattutino, figliuol dell’aurora?! Come mai sei atterrato, tu che calpestavi le nazioni?!
13 Yet thou saidest in thine heart, I will ascende into heauen, and exalt my throne aboue beside the starres of God: I will sitte also vpon the mount of the Congregation in the sides of the North.
Tu dicevi in cuor tuo: “Io salirò in cielo, eleverò il mio trono al disopra delle stelle di Dio; io m’assiderò sul monte dell’assemblea, nella parte estrema del settentrione;
14 I wil ascend aboue ye height of the cloudes, and I will be like the most high.
salirò sulle sommità delle nubi, sarò simile all’Altissimo”.
Invece t’han fatto discendere nel soggiorno de’ morti, nelle profondità della fossa! (Sheol h7585)
16 They that see thee, shall looke vpon thee and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, and that did shake the kingdomes?
Quei che ti vedono fissano in te lo sguardo, ti considerano attentamente, e dicono: “E’ questo l’uomo che faceva tremare la terra, che scoteva i regni,
17 He made the worlde as a wildernesse, and destroied the cities thereof, and opened not the house of his prisoners.
che riduceva il mondo in un deserto, ne distruggeva le città, e non rimandava mai liberi a casa i suoi prigionieri?”
18 All the Kings of the nations, euen they all sleepe in glorie, euery one in his owne house.
Tutti i re delle nazioni, tutti quanti riposano in gloria ciascuno nella propria dimora;
19 But thou art cast out of thy graue like an abominable branch: like the raiment of those that are slaine, and thrust thorowe with a sword, which goe downe to the stones of the pit, as a carkeise troden vnder feete.
ma tu sei stato gettato lungi dalla tua tomba come un rampollo abominevole coperto di uccisi trafitti colla spada, calati sotto i sassi della fossa, come un cadavere calpestato.
20 Thou shalt not be ioyned with them in the graue, because thou hast destroied thine owne lande, and slaine thy people: the seede of the wicked shall not be renoumed for euer.
Tu non sarai riunito a loro nel sepolcro perché hai distrutto il tuo paese, hai ucciso il tuo popolo; della razza de’ malfattori non si ragionerà mai più.
21 Prepare a slaughter for his children, for the iniquitie of their fathers: let them not rise vp nor possesse the land, nor fil the face of the world with enemies.
Preparate il massacro dei suoi figli, a motivo della iniquità dei loro padri! Che non si rialzino più a conquistare la terra, a riempire il mondo di città!
22 For I wil rise vp against them (sayth the Lord of hostes) and will cut off from Babel the name and the remnant and the sonne, and the nephew, sayth the Lord:
Io mi leverò contro di loro, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti; sterminerò di Babilonia il nome, ed i superstiti, la razza e la progenie, dice l’Eterno.
23 And I wil make it a possession to ye hedgehogge, and pooles of water, and I will sweepe it with the besome of destruction, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
Ne farò il dominio del porcospino, un luogo di palude, la spazzerò con la scopa della distruzione, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti.
24 The Lord of hostes hath sworne, saying, Surely like as I haue purposed, so shall it come to passe, and as I haue consulted, it shall stand:
L’Eterno degli eserciti l’ha giurato, dicendo: In verità, com’io penso, così sarà, come ho deciso, così avverrà.
25 That I will breake to pieces Asshur in my land, and vpon my mountaines will I treade him vnder foote: so that his yoke shall depart from them, and his burden shall be taken from off their shoulder.
Frantumerò l’Assiro nel mio paese, lo calpesterò sui miei monti; allora il suo giogo sarà tolto di sovr’essi, e il suo carico sarà tolto di su le loro spalle.
26 This is the counsell that is consulted vpon the whole worlde, and this is the hande stretched out ouer all the nations,
Questo è il piano deciso contro tutta la terra; questa è la mano stesa contro tutte le nazioni.
27 Because the Lord of hostes hath determined it, and who shall disanull it? and his hande is stretched out, and who shall turne it away?
L’Eterno degli eserciti ha fatto questo piano; Chi lo frusterà? La sua mano è stesa; chi gliela farà ritirare?
28 In the yeere that King Ahaz died, was this burden.
L’anno della morte di Achaz fu pronunziato questo oracolo:
29 Reioyce not, (thou whole Palestina) because the rod of him that did beat thee, is broken for out of the serpents roote shall come forth a cockatrise, and the fruit therof shalbe a firy flying serpent.
Non ti rallegrare, o Filistia tutta quanta, perché la verga che ti colpiva è spezzata! giacché dalla radice del serpente uscirà un basilisco, e il suo frutto sarà un serpente ardente e volante.
30 For the first borne of the poore shall be fed, and the needie shall lie downe in safetie: and I will kill thy roote with famine, and it shall slay thy remnant.
I più poveri avran di che pascersi, e i bisognosi riposeranno al sicuro; ma io farò morir di fame la tua radice, e quel che rimarrà di te sarà ucciso.
31 Howle, O gate, crie, O citie: thou whole lande of Palestina art dissolued, for there shall come from the North a smoke, and none shalbe alone, at his time appointed.
Urla, o porta! grida, o città! Struggiti, o Filistei tutta quanta! Poiché dal nord viene un fumo, e niuno si sbanda dalla sua schiera.
32 What shall then one answere the messengers of the Gentiles? That the Lord hath stablished Zion, and the poore of his people shall trust in it.
E che si risponderà ai messi di questa nazione? Che l’Eterno ha fondata Sion, e che in essa gli afflitti del suo popolo trovano rifugio.
