Exodus 21
1 Now these are the lawes, which thou shalt set before them:
“Estos son los reglamentos que debe presentarles:
2 If thou bye an Ebrewe seruant, he shall serue sixe yeres, and in the seuenth he shall go out free, for nothing.
“Si compran un esclavo hebreo, debe trabajar para ustedes durante seis años. Pero en el séptimo año, debe ser liberado sin tener que pagar nada.
3 If he came himselfe alone, he shall goe out himselfe alone: if hee were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
Si era soltero cuando llegó, debe irse soltero. Si tenía una esposa cuando llegó, ella debe irse con él.
4 If his master haue giuen him a wife, and she hath borne him sonnes or daughters, he wife and her children shalbe her masters, but he shall goe out himselfe alone.
Si su amo le da una esposa y ella tiene hijos con él, la mujer y sus hijos pertenecerán a su amo, y sólo el hombre será liberado.
5 But if the seruant saye thus, I loue my master, my wife and my children, I will not goe out free,
“Sin embargo, si el esclavo declara formalmente: ‘Amo a mi señor, a mi esposa y a mis hijos; no quiero ser liberado’
6 Then his master shall bring him vnto the Iudges, and set him to the dore, or to the poste, and his master shall bore his eare through with a nawle, and he shall serue him for euer.
entonces su señor lo llevará ante los jueces. Luego lo pondrá de pie contra la puerta o el poste de la puerta y usará una herramienta de metal para hacerle un agujero en la oreja. Entonces trabajará para su amo de por vida.
7 Likewise if a man sell his daughter to be a seruant, she shall not goe out as the men seruantes doe.
“Si un hombre vende a su hija como esclava, no será liberada de la misma manera que los esclavos.
8 If shee please not her master, who hath betrothed her to him selfe, then shall hee cause to buy her: hee shall haue no power to sell her to a strange people, seeing he despised her.
Si el hombre que la eligió para sí no está satisfecho con ella, debe dejar que sea comprada de nuevo. No podrá venderla a los extranjeros, ya que ha sido injusto con ella.
9 But if he hath betrothed her vnto his sonne, he shall deale with her according to the custome of the daughters.
Si decide dársela a su hijo, debe tratarla como a una hija.
10 If he take him another wife, he shall not diminish her foode, her rayment, and recompence of her virginitie.
Si toma a otra mujer, no debe reducir los subsidios de comida y ropa, ni los derechos maritales de la primera.
11 And if he do not these three vnto her, the shall she go out free, paying no money.
Si no le da estas tres cosas, ella es libre de irse sin pagar nada.
12 He that smiteth a man, and he die, shall dye the death.
“Todo aquel que golpee y mate a otra persona debe ser ejecutado.
13 And if a man hath not layed wayte, but God hath offered him into his hande, then I wil appoynt thee a place whither he shall flee.
Sin embargo, si no fue intencional y Dios permitió que sucediera, entonces arreglaré un lugar para ustedes donde puedan correr y estar seguros.
14 But if a man come presumptuously vpon his neighbour to slay him with guile, thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
Pero si alguien planea deliberadamente y mata a propósito a otro, debe alejarlo de mi altar y ejecutarlo.
15 Also hee that smiteth his father or his mother, shall die the death.
“Cualquiera que golpee a su padre o madre debe ser ejecutado.
16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, if it be founde with him, shall die the death.
Cualquiera que secuestre a alguien más debe ser ejecutado, ya sea que la víctima sea vendida o que aún esté en su posesión.
17 And hee that curseth his father or his mother, shall die the death.
“Cualquiera que desprecie a su padre o a su madre debe ser ejecutado.
18 When men also striue together, and one smite another with a stone, or with the fist, and he die not, but lieth in bed,
“Si los hombres están peleando y uno golpea al otro con una piedra o con el puño, y el hombre herido no muere pero tiene que permanecer en cama,
19 If hee rise againe and walke without vpon his staffe, then shall he that smote him go quite, saue onely hee shall beare his charges for his resting, and shall pay for his healing.
y luego se levanta y camina afuera con su bastón, entonces el que lo golpeó no será castigado. Aún así, debe compensar al hombre por el tiempo perdido de su trabajo y asegurarse de que esté completamente curado.
20 And if a man smite his seruant, or his maide with a rod, and he die vnder his hande, he shalbe surely punished.
“Cualquiera que golpee a su esclavo o esclava con una vara, y el esclavo muera como resultado, debe ser castigado.
21 But if he continue a day, or two dayes, hee shall not be punished: for he is his money.
Sin embargo, si después de un día o dos el esclavo mejora, el dueño no será castigado porque el esclavo es de su propiedad.
22 Also if men striue and hurt a woman with childe, so that her childe depart from her, and death follow not, hee shall bee surely punished according as the womans husband shall appoynt him, or he shall pay as the Iudges determine.
“Si los hombres que están peleando golpean a una mujer embarazada para que dé a luz prematuramente, pero no se produce ninguna lesión grave, debe ser multado con la cantidad que el marido de la mujer demande y según lo permitan los jueces.
23 But if death follow, then thou shalt paye life for life,
Pero si se produce una lesión grave, entonces debe pagar una vida por otra vida;
24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hande for hand, foote for foote,
ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie,
25 Burning for burning, wound for wounde, stripe for stripe.
quemadura por quemadura, herida por herida y moretón por moretón.
26 And if a man smite his seruant in the eie, or his maide in the eye, and hath perished it, hee shall let him goe free for his eye.
“El que golpee a su esclavo o esclava en el ojo y lo ciegue, debe liberar al esclavo como compensación por el ojo.
27 Also if he smite out his seruants tooth, or his maides tooth, he shall let him goe out free for his tooth.
El que golpee el diente de su esclavo o esclava debe liberar al esclavo como compensación por el diente.
28 If an oxe gore a man or a woman, that he die, the oxe shalbe stoned to death, and his flesh shall not be eaten, but the owner of the oxe shall goe quite.
“Si un buey usa sus cuernos para matar a un hombre o una mujer, el buey debe ser apedreado hasta morir, y su carne no debe ser comida. Pero el dueño del buey no será castigado.
29 If the oxe were wont to push in times past, and it hath bene tolde his master, and hee hath not kept him, and after he killeth a man or a woman, the oxe shall be stoned, and his owner shall die also.
Pero si el buey ha herido repetidamente a la gente con sus cuernos, y su dueño ha sido advertido pero aún no lo tiene bajo control, y mata a un hombre o una mujer, entonces el buey debe ser apedreado hasta morir y su dueño también debe ser ejecutado.
30 If there be set to him a summe of mony, then he shall pay the raunsome of his life, whatsoeuer shalbe laied vpon him.
Pero si en lugar de ello se exige el pago de una indemnización, el propietario puede compensar su vida pagando la totalidad de la indemnización exigida.
31 Whether he hath gored a sonne or gored a daughter, he shalbe iudged after the same maner.

32 If the oxe gore a seruant or a mayde, hee shall giue vnto their master thirtie shekels of siluer, and the oxe shalbe stoned.
Si el buey usa sus cuernos y mata a un esclavo o esclava, el propietario del buey debe pagar treinta siclos de plata al amo del esclavo, y el buey debe ser apedreado hasta la muerte.
33 And when a man shall open a well, or when he shall dig a pit and couer it not, and an oxe or an asse fall therein,
“Si alguien quita la tapa de una cisterna o cava una y no la cubre, y un buey o un asno cae en ella,
34 The owner of the pit shall make it good, and giue money to the owners thereof, but the dead beast shalbe his.
el dueño de la fosa debe pagar una compensación al dueño del animal y quedarse con el animal muerto.
35 And if a mans oxe hurt his neighbours oxe that he die, then they shall sel the liue oxe, and deuide the money thereof, and the dead oxe also they shall deuide.
“Si el buey de alguien hiere al de otro y éste muere, debe vender al buey vivo y compartir el dinero recibido; también debe compartir al animal muerto.
36 Or if it bee knowen that the oxe hath vsed to push in times past, and his master hath not kept him, he shall pay oxe for oxe, but the dead shall be his owne.
Pero si se sabe que el buey ha herido repetidamente a personas con sus cuernos, y su dueño ha sido advertido pero aún no lo tiene bajo control, debe pagar una compensación completa, buey por buey; pero el dueño puede quedarse con el animal muerto”.
