Deuteronomy 20
1 When thou shalt go forth to warre against thine enemies, and shalt see horses and charets, and people moe then thou, be not afrayde of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt.
Wenn du wider deine Feinde zum Kriege ausziehst und siehst Roß und Wagen, ein Volk, zahlreicher als du, so sollst du dich nicht vor ihnen fürchten; denn Jehova, dein Gott, ist mit dir, der dich aus dem Lande Ägypten heraufgeführt hat.
2 And when ye are come neere vnto the battel, then the Priest shall come forth to speake vnto the people,
Und es soll geschehen, wenn ihr zum Streite heranrücket, so soll der Priester herzutreten und zu dem Volke reden
3 And shall say vnto them, Heare, O Israel: ye are come this day vnto battell against your enemies: let not your heartes faynt, neither feare, nor be amased, nor adread of them.
und zu ihnen sprechen: Höre, Israel! ihr rücket heute zum Streite heran wider eure Feinde; euer Herz verzage nicht, fürchtet euch nicht und ängstiget euch nicht und erschrecket nicht vor ihnen;
4 For ye Lord your God goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, and to saue you
denn Jehova, euer Gott, ist es, der mit euch zieht, um für euch zu streiten mit euren Feinden, um euch zu retten.
5 And let the officers speake vnto the people, saying, What man is there that hath buylt a new house, and hath not dedicate it? let him go and returne to his house, least he dye in the battel, and an other man dedicate it.
Und die Vorsteher sollen zu dem Volke reden und sprechen: Wer ist der Mann, der ein neues Haus gebaut und es noch nicht eingeweiht hat? er gehe und kehre nach seinem Hause zurück, damit er nicht in der Schlacht sterbe, und ein anderer Mann es einweihe.
6 And what man is there that hath planted a vineyarde, and hath not eaten of the fruite? let him go and returne againe vnto his house, least he die in the battel, and another eate the fruite.
Und wer ist der Mann, der einen Weinberg gepflanzt und ihn noch nicht benutzt [W. entheiligt, d. h. durch Gebrauch im fünften Jahre. S. 3. Mose 19,23-25] hat? er gehe und kehre nach seinem Hause zurück, damit er nicht in der Schlacht sterbe, und ein anderer Mann ihn benutze.
7 And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and returne againe vnto his house, lest he die in the battell, and another man take her.
Und wer ist der Mann, der sich ein Weib verlobt und es noch nicht genommen hat? er gehe und kehre nach seinem Hause zurück, damit er nicht in der Schlacht sterbe, und ein anderer Mann sie nehme.
8 And let the officers speake further vnto the people, and say, Whosoeuer is afrayde and faynt hearted, let him go and returne vnto his house, least his brethrens heart faynt like his heart.
Und die Vorsteher sollen weiter zu dem Volke reden und sprechen: Wer ist der Mann, der sich fürchtet und verzagten Herzens ist? er gehe und kehre nach seinem Hause zurück, damit nicht das Herz seiner Brüder verzagt werde wie sein Herz.
9 And after that the officers haue made an ende of speaking vnto the people, they shall make captaines of the armie to gouerne the people.
Und es soll geschehen, wenn die Vorsteher aufgehört haben, zu dem Volke zu reden, so sollen sie Heeroberste an die Spitze des Volkes stellen.
10 When thou commest neere vnto a citie to fight against it, thou shalt offer it peace.
Wenn du dich einer Stadt näherst, wider sie zu streiten, so sollst du ihr Frieden anbieten.
11 And if it answere thee againe peaceably, and open vnto thee, then let all the people that is founde therein, be tributaries vnto thee, and serue thee.
Und es soll geschehen, wenn sie dir Frieden erwidert und dir auftut, so soll alles Volk, das sich darin befindet, dir fronpflichtig sein und dir dienen.
12 But if it will make no peace with thee, but make war against thee, then shalt thou besiege it.
Und wenn sie nicht Frieden mit dir macht, sondern Krieg mit dir führt, so sollst du sie belagern;
13 And the Lord thy God shall deliuer it into thine handes, and thou shalt smite all the males thereof with the edge of the sworde.
und gibt Jehova, dein Gott, sie in deine Hand, so schlage alle ihre Männlichen mit der Schärfe des Schwertes.
14 Onely the women, and the children, and the cattel, and all that is in the citie, euen all the spoyle thereof shalt thou take vnto thy selfe, and shalt eate the spoyle of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath giuen thee.
Doch die Weiber und die Kinder, und das Vieh und alles, was in der Stadt sein wird, alle ihre Beute, sollst du für dich rauben; und du sollst die Beute deiner Feinde essen, die Jehova, dein Gott, dir gegeben hat.
15 Thus shalt thou do vnto all ye cities, which are a great way off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations here.
Also sollst du allen Städten tun, die sehr fern von dir sind, die nicht sind von den Städten dieser Nationen hier.
16 But of the cities of this people, which the Lord thy God shall giue thee to inherite, thou shalt saue no person aliue,
Jedoch von den Städten dieser Völker, die Jehova, dein Gott, dir als Erbteil gibt, sollst du nichts leben lassen, was Odem hat;
17 But shalt vtterly destroy them: to wit, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hiuites, and the Iebusites, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee,
sondern du sollst sie gänzlich verbannen: die Hethiter und die Amoriter, die Kanaaniter und die Perisiter, die Hewiter und die Jebusiter, wie Jehova, dein Gott, dir geboten hat;
18 That they teache you not to doe after all their abominations, which they haue done vnto their gods, and so ye should sinne against the Lord your God.
auf daß sie euch nicht lehren, zu tun nach allen ihren Greueln, die sie ihren Göttern getan haben, und ihr nicht sündiget wider Jehova, euren Gott.
19 When thou hast besieged a citie long time, and made warre against it to take it, destroy not the trees therof, by smiting an axe into them: for thou mayest eate of them: therfore thou shalt not cut them downe to further thee in the siege, (for the tree of the field is mans life)
Wenn du eine Stadt viele Tage belagern wirst, indem du Krieg wider sie führst, um sie einzunehmen, so sollst du ihre Bäume nicht verderben, indem du die Axt gegen sie schwingst [denn du kannst davon essen], und sollst sie nicht abhauen; denn ist der Baum des Feldes ein Mensch, daß er vor dir in Belagerung kommen sollte?
20 Onely those trees, which thou knowest are not for meate, those shalt thou destroy and cut downe, and make fortes against the citie that maketh warre with thee, vntil thou subdue it.
Nur die Bäume, von denen du weißt, daß sie keine Bäume sind, von denen man ißt, die darfst du verderben und abhauen; und du magst Belagerungswerke davon bauen wider die Stadt, die Krieg mit dir führt, bis sie gefallen ist.
