Daniel 4
1 Nebuchad-nezzar King vnto all people, nations and languages, that dwell in all the world, Peace be multiplied vnto you:
Le Roi Nébucadnetsar, à tous peuples, nations, et Langues qui habitent en toute la terre: Que votre paix soit multipliée!
2 I thought it good to declare the signes and wonders, that the hie God hath wrought toward me.
Il m'a semblé bon de vous déclarer les signes et les merveilles que le Dieu souverain a faites envers moi.
3 How great are his signes, and how mightie are his wonders! his kingdome is an euerlasting kingdome, and his dominion is from generation to generation.
Ô! que ses signes sont grands, et ses merveilles pleines de force! Son règne est un règne éternel, et sa puissance est de génération en génération.
4 I Nebuchad-nezzar being at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace,
Moi Nébucadnetsar j'étais tranquille dans ma maison, et dans un état florissant au milieu de mon palais;
5 Saw a dreame, which made me afraide, and the thoughtes vpon my bed, and the visions of mine head troubled me.
Lorsque je vis un songe qui m'épouvanta; et les pensées que j'eus dans mon lit, et les visions de ma tête me troublèrent.
6 Therefore made I a decree, that they should bring all the wise men of Babel before mee, that they might declare vnto me the interpretation of the dreame.
Et de par moi fut fait un Edit, qu'on fît venir devant moi tous les sages de Babylone, afin qu'ils me déclarassent l'interprétation du songe.
7 So came the inchanters, the astrologians, the Caldeans and the sothsayers, to whom I tolde the dreame, but they could not shew me the interpretation thereof,
Alors vinrent les magiciens, les astrologues, les Caldéens, et les devins, et je récitai le songe devant eux, mais ils ne m'en purent point donner l'interprétation.
8 Till at the last Daniel came before mee, (whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, which hath the spirite of the holy gods in him) and before him I tolde the dreame, saying,
Mais à la fin Daniel, qui a nom Beltesatsar, selon le nom de mon Dieu, et auquel est l'Esprit des dieux saints, entra devant moi, et je récitai le songe devant lui, en [disant]:
9 O Belteshazzar, chiefe of the enchanters, because I know, that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell mee the visions of my dreame, that I haue seene and the interpretation thereof.
Beltesatsar Chef des Mages, comme je connais que l'Esprit des dieux saints est en toi, et que nul secret ne t'est difficile, [écoute] les visions de mon songe que j'ai vues, et dis son interprétation.
10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed. And beholde, I sawe a tree in the middes of the earth and the height thereof was great:
Les visions donc de ma tête sur mon lit étaient telles. Voici, je voyais un arbre au milieu de la terre, la hauteur duquel était fort grande.
11 A great tree and strong, and the height thereof reached vnto heauen, and the sight thereof to the endes of all the earth.
Cet arbre était devenu grand et fort, son sommet touchait les cieux, et il se faisait voir jusqu'au bout de toute la terre.
12 The boughes thereof were faire and the fruite thereof much, and in it was meate for all: it made a shadow vnder it for the beastes of the fielde, and the foules of the heauen dwelt in the boughes thereof, and all flesh fedde of it.
Son branchage était beau, et son fruit abondant, et il y avait de quoi manger pour tous; les bêtes des champs se mettaient à l'ombre au-dessous de lui, et les oiseaux des cieux habitaient dans ses branches, et toute chair en était nourrie.
13 I sawe in the visions of mine head vpon my bed, and beholde, a watchman and an holy one came downe from heauen,
Je regardais dans les visions de ma tête sur mon lit, et voici, un Veillant et Saint descendit des cieux;
14 And cried aloude, and said thus, Hew downe the tree, and breake off his branches: shake off his leaues, and scatter his fruite, that the beastes may flee from vnder it, and the foules from his branches.
Il cria à haute voix, et parla ainsi: Coupez l'arbre, et l'ébranchez; jetez çà et là son branchage, et répandez son fruit; que les bêtes s'écartent de dessous lui, et les oiseaux d'entre ses branches.
15 Neuerthelesse leaue the stumpe of his rootes in the earth, and with a band of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wet with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes among the grasse of the fielde.
Toutefois laissez le tronc de ses racines dans la terre, et l'ayant lié avec des chaînes de fer et d'airain, qu'il soit parmi l'herbe des champs, qu'il soit arrosé de la rosée des cieux, et qu'il ait sa portion avec les bêtes en l'herbe de la terre.
16 Let his heart be changed from mans nature, and let a beasts heart be giuen vnto him, and let seuen times be passed ouer him.
Que son cœur soit changé pour n'être plus un cœur d'homme, et qu'il lui soit donné un cœur de bête; et que sept temps passent sur lui.
17 The sentence is according to the decree of the watchmen, and according to the word of the holy ones: the demaunde was answered, to the intent that liuing men may knowe, that the most High hath power ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whomsoeuer he will, and appointeth ouer it the most abiect among men.
La chose est par le décret des Veillants, et la demande avec parole des Saints; afin que les vivants connaissent que le Souverain domine sur le Royaume des hommes, et qu'il le donne à qui il lui plaît, et y établit le plus abject des hommes.
18 This is the dreame, that I King Nebuchad-nezzar haue seene: therefore thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof: for all the wisemen of my kingdome are not able to shewe mee the interpretation: but thou art able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
Moi Nébucadnetsar Roi, j'ai vu ce songe, toi donc Beltesatsar, dis son interprétation; car aucun des sages de mon royaume ne m'en peut déclarer l'interprétation, mais toi, tu le peux; parce que l'Esprit des dieux saints est en toi.
19 Then Daniel (whose name was Belteshazzar) held his peace by the space of one houre, and his thoughts troubled him, and the King spake and said, Belteshazzar, let neither the dreame, nor the interpretation thereof trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and saide, My lord, the dreame be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
Alors Daniel, dont le nom était Beltesatsar, demeura tout étonné environ une heure, et ses pensées le troublaient; [et] le Roi [lui] parla, et dit: Beltesatsar, que le songe ni son interprétation ne te trouble point; [et] Beltesatsar répondit, et dit: Mon Seigneur, que le songe arrive à ceux qui t'ont en haine, et son interprétation à tes ennemis!
20 The tree that thou sawest, which was great and mightie, whose height reached vnto the heauen, and the sight thereof through all the world,
L'arbre que tu as vu, qui était devenu grand et fort, dont le sommet touchait les cieux, et qui se faisait voir par toute la terre;
21 Whose leaues were faire and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meate for all, vnder the which the beastes of the fielde dwelt, and vpon whose branches the foules of the heauen did sit,
Et dont le branchage était beau, et le fruit abondant, et auquel il y avait de quoi manger pour tous, sous lequel demeuraient les bêtes des champs, et aux branches duquel habitaient les oiseaux des cieux.
22 It is thou, O King, that art great and mightie: for thy greatnesse is growen, and reacheth vnto heauen, and thy dominion to the endes of the earth.
C'est toi-même, ô Roi! qui es devenu grand et fort, tellement que ta grandeur s'est accrue, et est parvenue jusqu'aux cieux, et ta domination jusqu'au bout de la terre.
23 Where as the King sawe a watchman, and an holy one, that came downe from heauen, and said, Hew downe the tree and destroy it, yet leaue the stumpe of the rootes thereof in the earth, and with a bande of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wette with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes of the fielde, till seuen times passe ouer him,
Mais, quant à ce que le Roi a vu le Veillant et le Saint qui descendait des cieux, et qui disait: Coupez l'arbre, et l'ébranchez, toutefois laissez le tronc de ses racines dans la terre, et [qu'il soit lié] avec des liens de fer et d'airain parmi l'herbe des champs, qu'il soit arrosé de la rosée des cieux, et qu'il ait sa portion avec les bêtes des champs, jusqu'à ce que sept temps soient passés sur lui;
24 This is the interpretation, O King, and it is the decree of the most High, which is come vpon my lord the King,
C'en est ici l'interprétation, ô Roi! et c'est ici le décret du Souverain, lequel est venu sur le Roi mon Seigneur;
25 That they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beasts of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse as the oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dewe of heauen: and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, till thou knowe, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whom so euer he will.
C'est qu'on te chassera d'entre les hommes, ton habitation sera avec les bêtes des champs, et on te paîtra d'herbe comme les bœufs, et tu seras arrosé de la rosée des cieux; et sept temps passeront sur toi, jusques à ce que tu connaisses que le Souverain domine sur le Royaume des hommes, et qu'il le donne à qui il lui plaît.
26 Where as they sayd, that one should leaue the stumpe of the tree rootes, thy kingdome shall remaine vnto thee: after that, thou shalt knowe, that the heauens haue the rule.
Mais, quant à ce qui a été dit qu'on laissât le tronc des racines de cet arbre-là, c'est que ton Royaume te sera rendu, dès que tu auras connu que les Cieux dominent.
27 Wherefore, O King, let my counsell be acceptable vnto thee, and breake off thy sinnes by righteousnes, and thine iniquities by mercy toward the poore: lo, let there be an healing of thine errour.
C'est pourquoi; ô Roi! que mon conseil te soit agréable, et rachète tes péchés par la justice, et tes iniquités en faisant miséricorde aux pauvres; voici, ce sera une prolongation à ta prospérité.
28 All these things shall come vpon the King Nebuchad-nezzar.
Toutes ces choses arrivèrent au Roi Nébucadnetsar.
29 At the end of twelue moneths, he walked in the royall palace of Babel.
Au bout de douze mois, il se promenait dans le palais Royal de Babylone;
30 And the King spake and sayde, Is not this great Babel, that I haue built for the house of the kingdome by the might of my power, and for the honour of my maiestie?
Et le Roi prenant la parole, dit: N'est-ce pas ici Babylone la grande, que j'ai bâtie pour être la demeure Royale par le pouvoir de ma force, et pour la gloire de ma magnificence?
31 While the worde was in the Kings mouth, a voyce came downe from heauen, saying, O King Nebuchad-nezzar, to thee be it spoken, Thy kingdome is departed from thee,
[La] parole était encore dans la bouche du Roi quand une voix vint des cieux, [disant]: Roi Nébucadnetsar, on t'annonce que ton Royaume te va être ôté.
32 And they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse, as the oxen, and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, vntill thou knowest, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it vnto whomsoeuer he will.
Et on va te chasser d'entre les hommes, et ton habitation sera avec les bêtes des champs; on te paîtra d'herbe comme les bœufs, et sept temps passeront sur toi, jusques à ce que tu connaisses que le Souverain domine sur le Royaume des hommes, et qu'il le donne à qui il lui plaît.
33 The very same houre was this thing fulfilled vpon Nebuchad-nezzar, and hee was driuen from men, and did eate grasse as the oxen, and his body was wet with the dewe of heauen, till his heares were growen as eagles feathers, and his nailes like birds clawes.
A cette même heure-là cette parole fut accomplie sur Nébucadnetsar, et il fut chassé d'entre les hommes, il mangea l'herbe comme les bœufs, et son corps fut arrosé de la rosée des cieux jusqu'à ce que son poil crût comme celui de l'aigle, et ses ongles comme ceux des oiseaux.
34 And at the ende of these dayes I Nebuchad-nezzar lift vp mine eyes vnto heauen, and mine vnderstanding was restored vnto me, and I gaue thankes vnto the most High, and I praysed and honoured him that liueth for euer, whose power is an euerlasting power, and his kingdome is from generation to generation.
Mais à la fin de ces jours-là moi Nébucadnetsar je levai mes yeux vers les cieux; mon sens me revint, je bénis le Souverain, je louai et j'honorai celui qui vit éternellement, duquel la puissance est une puissance éternelle, et le règne de génération en génération.
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and according to his will he worketh in the armie of heauen, and in the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, nor say vnto him, What doest thou?
Et au prix duquel tous les habitants de la terre ne sont rien estimés; il fait ce qui lui plaît tant dans l'armée des cieux, que parmi les habitants de la terre; et il n'y a personne qui empêche sa main, et qui lui dise: Qu'as-tu fait?
36 At the same time was mine vnderstanding restored vnto me, and I returned to the honour of my kingdome: my glory and my beautie was restored vnto me, and my counsellours and my princes sought vnto me, and I was established in my kingdome, and my glory was augmented toward me.
En ce temps-là mon sens me revint, et [je retournai] à la gloire de mon Royaume, ma magnificence et ma splendeur me fut rendue, et mes conseillers et mes gentilshommes me redemandèrent, je fus rétabli dans mon Royaume, et ma gloire fut augmentée.
37 Now therefore I Nebuchad-nezzar prayse and extoll and magnifie the King of heauen, whose workes are all trueth, and his wayes iudgement, and those that walke in pride, he is able to abase.
Maintenant donc moi Nébucadnetsar je loue, j'exalte, et je glorifie le Roi des cieux, duquel toutes les œuvres sont véritables, ses voies justes, et qui peut abaisser ceux qui marchent avec orgueil.
