Amos 7
1 Thus hath the Lord God shewed vnto mee, and beholde, he formed grashoppers in the beginning of ye shooting vp of the latter grouth: and loe, it was in the latter grouth after the Kings mowing.
Ainsi m'a montré le Seigneur Yahvé: voici, il a formé des sauterelles au commencement de la germination de l'arrière-cour; et voici, c'était l'arrière-cour après la moisson du roi.
2 And when they had made an ende of eating the grasse of the land, then I saide, O Lord God, spare, I beseeche thee: who shall raise vp Iaakob? for he is small.
Quand elles eurent fini de manger l'herbe du pays, je dis: « Seigneur Yahvé, pardonne, je t'en supplie! Comment Jacob pourrait-il tenir debout? Car il est petit. »
3 So the Lord repented for this. It shall not be, saith the Lord.
Yahvé s'est incliné à ce sujet. « Cela n'arrivera pas », dit Yahvé.
4 Thus also hath the Lord God shewed vnto me, and behold, the Lord God called to iudgement by fire, and it deuoured the great deepe, and did eate vp a part.
Ainsi m'a montré le Seigneur Yahvé: voici, le Seigneur Yahvé a appelé le jugement par le feu, et il a asséché le grand abîme, et il aurait dévoré le pays.
5 Then said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseeche thee: who shall raise vp Iaakob? for he is small.
Alors je dis: « Seigneur Yahvé, arrête, je t'en supplie! Comment Jacob pourrait-il tenir debout? Car il est petit. »
6 So the Lord repented for this. This also shall not be, saith the Lord God.
Yahvé s'est incliné à ce sujet. « Cela non plus n'arrivera pas », dit le Seigneur Yahvé.
7 Thus againe he shewed me, and behold, the Lord stoode vpon a wall made by line with a line in his hand.
Il me montra ainsi: voici, l'Éternel se tenait près d'un mur tracé au fil à plomb, un fil à plomb à la main.
8 And the Lord saide vnto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A line. Then said the Lord, Beholde, I wil set a line in the middes of my people Israel, and wil passe by them no more.
Yahvé me dit: « Amos, que vois-tu? » J'ai dit: « Un fil à plomb. » L'Éternel dit alors: « Voici que je vais placer un fil à plomb au milieu de mon peuple d'Israël. Je ne passerai plus devant eux.
9 And the hye places of Izhak shalbe desolate, and the temples of Israel shalbe destroyed: and I wil rise against the house of Ieroboam with the sworde.
Les hauts lieux d'Isaac seront désolés, les sanctuaires d'Israël seront dévastés, et je me lèverai par l'épée contre la maison de Jéroboam. »
10 Then Amaziah the Priest of Beth-el sent to Ieroboam King of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the middes of the house of Israel: the lande is not able to beare all his wordes.
Alors Amatsia, prêtre de Béthel, envoya à Jéroboam, roi d'Israël, pour lui dire: « Amos a conspiré contre toi au milieu de la maison d'Israël. Le pays n'est pas capable de supporter toutes ses paroles.
11 For thus Amos saith, Ieroboam shall die by the sworde, and Israel shalbe led away captiue out of their owne land.
Car Amos dit: « Jéroboam mourra par l'épée, et Israël sera emmené captif hors de son pays ».
12 Also Amaziah sayde vnto Amos, O thou the Seer, goe, flee thou away into the land of Iudah, and there eate thy bread and prophecie there.
Amatsia dit aussi à Amos: « Voyant, va, fuis dans le pays de Juda, et là, mange du pain, et prophétise là,
13 But prophecie no more at Beth-el: for it is the Kings chappel, and it is the Kings court.
mais ne prophétise plus à Béthel, car c'est le sanctuaire du roi, et c'est une maison royale! ».
14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no Prophet, neither was I a prophets sonne, but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of wilde figs.
Amos répondit à Amatsia: Je n'étais pas prophète, et je n'étais pas fils de prophète, mais j'étais berger et cultivateur de figues de Barbarie.
15 And the Lord tooke me as I followed the flocke, and the Lord said vnto me, Go, prophecie vnto my people Israel.
L'Éternel m'a enlevé de la suite du troupeau, et l'Éternel m'a dit: Va, prophétise à mon peuple d'Israël.
16 Now therefore heare thou the word of the Lord. Thou sayest, Prophecie not against Israel, and speake nothing against the house of Izhak.
Maintenant, écoute la parole de l'Éternel: « Tu dis: Ne prophétise pas contre Israël, et ne prêche pas contre la maison d'Isaac ».
17 Therefore thus sayth the Lord, Thy wife shall be an harlot in the citie, and thy sonnes and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be deuided by line: and thou shalt die in a polluted land, and Israel shall surely go into captiuitie forth of his land.
C'est pourquoi Yahvé dit: 'Ta femme se prostituera dans la ville, tes fils et tes filles tomberont par l'épée, ton pays sera divisé au cordeau, tu mourras toi-même dans un pays impur, et Israël sera emmené captif hors de son pays.'"
