1 Samuel 25

1 Then Samuel dyed, and all Israel assembled, and mourned for him, and buried him in his owne house at Ramah. And Dauid arose and went downe to the wildernes of Paran.

Et Samuel mourut; et tout Israël s’assembla, et se lamenta sur lui; et on l’enterra dans sa maison, à Rama. Et David se leva, et descendit au désert de Paran.

2 Now in Maon was a man, who had his possessio in Carmel, and the man was exceeding mightie and had three thousand sheepe, and a thousand goates: and he was shering his sheepe in Carmel.

Et il y avait à Maon un homme qui avait ses affaires à Carmel; et cet homme était très riche; il avait 3 000 moutons et 1 000 chèvres. Et il était à Carmel pendant qu’on tondait ses moutons.

3 The name also of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail, and she was a woman of singular wisdome, and beautifull, but the man was churlish, and euil conditioned, and was of the familie of Caleb.

Et le nom de l’homme était Nabal, et le nom de sa femme, Abigaïl; et la femme avait du bon sens et était belle de visage; et l’homme était dur et méchant dans ses actes; et il était de la race de Caleb.

4 And Dauid heard in the wildernesse, that Nabal did shere his sheepe.

Et David apprit dans le désert que Nabal tondait ses moutons.

5 Therefore Dauid sent tenne yong men, and Dauid said vnto the yong men, Go vp to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and aske him in my name how he doeth.

Et David envoya dix jeunes hommes; et David dit aux jeunes hommes: Montez à Carmel, et entrez chez Nabal, et saluez-le en mon nom;

6 And thus shall ye say for salutation, Both thou, and thine house, and all that thou hast, be in peace, wealth and prosperitie.

et vous [lui] direz ainsi: Vis longtemps! et paix te soit, et paix à ta maison, et paix à tout ce qui t’appartient!

7 Behold, I haue heard, that thou hast sherers: now thy shepherds were with vs, and we did the no hurt, neyther did they misse any thing all the while they were in Carmel.

Et maintenant j’ai entendu dire que tu as les tondeurs; or tes bergers ont été avec nous, et nous ne les avons pas molestés, et rien n’a manqué du leur, tous les jours qu’ils ont été à Carmel.

8 Aske thy seruants and they wil shew thee. Wherefore let these yong men finde fauour in thine eyes: (for we come in a good season) giue, I pray thee, whatsoeuer commeth to thine hand vnto thy seruants, and to thy sonne Dauid.

Demande-le à tes jeunes gens et ils t’en informeront. Que les jeunes hommes trouvent donc grâce à tes yeux, car nous sommes venus dans un bon jour. Donne, je te prie, à tes serviteurs et à ton fils David ce que ta main trouvera.

9 And when Dauids yong men came, they tolde Nabal all those wordes in the name of Dauid, and helde their peace.

Et les jeunes hommes de David vinrent et parlèrent à Nabal selon toutes ces paroles, au nom de David; et ils se tinrent tranquilles.

10 Then Nabal answered Dauids seruantes, and sayd, Who is Dauid? and who is the sonne of Ishai? there be many seruantes nowe a dayes, that breake away euery man from his master.

Et Nabal répondit aux serviteurs de David, et dit: Qui est David? Et qui est le fils d’Isaï? Aujourd’hui ils sont nombreux les serviteurs qui se sauvent chacun de son maître.

11 Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I haue killed for my sherers, and giue it vnto men, whom I know not whence they be?

Et je prendrais mon pain et mon eau, et ma viande que j’ai tuée pour mes tondeurs, et je les donnerais à des hommes dont je ne sais d’où ils sont?

12 So Dauids seruants turned their way, and went againe, and came, and tolde him all those things.

Et les jeunes hommes de David rebroussèrent chemin et s’en retournèrent; et ils vinrent et lui racontèrent selon toutes ces paroles.

13 And Dauid said vnto his men, Girde euery man his sword about him. And they girded euery man his sworde: Dauid also girded his sworde. And about foure hundreth men went vp after Dauid, and two hundreth abode by the cariage.

Et David dit à ses hommes: Ceignez chacun votre épée. Et ils ceignirent chacun leur épée, et David aussi ceignit son épée. Et environ 400 hommes montèrent après David, et 200 restèrent près du bagage.

14 Nowe one of the seruantes tolde Abigail Nabals wife, saying, Beholde, Dauid sent messengers out of the wildernesse to salute our master, and he rayled on them.

Et un jeune homme des gens [de Nabal] informa Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, disant: Voici, David a envoyé du désert des messagers pour bénir notre maître, et il s’est emporté contre eux.

15 Notwithstanding the men were very good vnto vs, and we had no displeasure, neither missed we any thing as long as we were conuersant with them, when we were in the fieldes.

Et les hommes ont été très bons pour nous, et nous n’avons pas été molestés, et il n’a rien manqué de ce qui était à nous, tout le temps que nous avons marché avec eux pendant que nous étions aux champs.

16 They were as a wall vnto vs both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping sheepe.

Ils ont été une muraille pour nous, de nuit et de jour, tout le temps que nous avons été avec eux, faisant paître le menu bétail.

17 Nowe therefore take heede, and see what thou shalt doe: for euill will surely come vpon our master, and vpon all his familie: for he is so wicked that a man can not speake to him.

Et maintenant, sache et vois ce que tu as à faire; car le mal est décidé contre notre maître et contre toute sa maison; et il est trop fils de Bélial pour qu’on parle avec lui.

18 Then Abigail made haste, and tooke two hundreth cakes, and two bottels of wine, and fiue sheepe ready dressed, and fiue measures of parched corne, and an hundreth frailes of raisins, and two hundreth of figs, and laded them on asses.

Et Abigaïl se hâta, et prit 200 pains, et deux outres de vin, et cinq moutons tout apprêtés, et cinq mesures de grain rôti, et 100 gâteaux de raisins secs, et 200 gâteaux de figues sèches, et les mit sur des ânes;

19 Then she said vnto her seruants, Go ye before me: beholde, I will come after you: yet she tolde not her husband Nabal.

et elle dit à ses jeunes hommes: Passez devant moi; voici, je viens après vous. Et elle ne dit rien à Nabal, son mari.

20 And as shee rode on her asse, shee came downe by a secret place of the mountaine, and beholde, Dauid and his men came downe against her, and she met them.

Et comme elle descendait, montée sur son âne, à couvert de la montagne, voici, David et ses hommes descendaient au-devant d’elle; et elle les rencontra.

21 And Dauid said, In deede I haue kept all in vaine that this fellow had in the wildernesse, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained vnto him: for he hath requited me euill for good.

Et David avait dit: Certainement c’est en vain que j’ai gardé tout ce que cet [homme] avait au désert, et que rien n’a manqué de tout ce qui était à lui: il m’a rendu le mal pour le bien.

22 So and more also doe God vnto the enemies of Dauid: for surely I will not leaue of all that he hath, by the dawning of the day, any that pisseth against the wall.

Que Dieu fasse ainsi aux ennemis de David, et ainsi y ajoute, si, de tout ce qui est à lui, je laisse jusqu’à la lumière du matin un seul homme de reste.

23 And when Abigail sawe Dauid, she hasted and lighted off her asse, and fell before Dauid on her face, and bowed her selfe to the ground,

Et Abigaïl vit David, et elle se hâta et descendit de dessus son âne; et elle tomba sur sa face devant David et se prosterna contre terre.

24 And fel at his feete, and sayd, Oh, my lord, I haue committed the iniquitie, and I pray thee, let thine handmayde speake to thee, and heare thou the wordes of thine handmayde.

Et elle tomba à ses pieds, et dit: À moi l’iniquité, mon seigneur! Mais je te prie, que ta servante parle à tes oreilles; et écoute les paroles de ta servante.

25 Let not my lorde, I pray thee, regard this wicked man Nabal: for as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and follie is with him: but I thine handmayde sawe not the yong men of my lord whom thou sentest.

Que mon seigneur, je te prie, ne fasse pas attention à cet homme de Bélial, à Nabal; car il est tel que son nom: son nom est Nabal, et la folie est avec lui. Et moi, ta servante, je n’ai pas vu les jeunes hommes de mon seigneur que tu as envoyés.

26 Now therefore my lord, as the Lord liueth, and as thy soule liueth (the Lord, I say, that hath withholden thee from comming to shedde blood, and that thine hand should not saue thee) so now thine enemies shall be as Nabal, and they that intend to doe my lord euill.

Et maintenant, mon seigneur, l’Éternel est vivant et ton âme est vivante, que l’Éternel t’a empêché d’en venir au sang et de te faire justice par ta main. Et maintenant, que tes ennemis et ceux qui cherchent à faire du tort à mon seigneur soient comme Nabal!

27 And now, this blessing which thine handmaid hath brought vnto my lorde, let it be giuen vnto the yong men, that follow my lord.

Et maintenant, [voici] ce présent que ton esclave a apporté à mon seigneur pour qu’on le donne aux jeunes hommes qui marchent à la suite de mon seigneur.

28 I pray thee, forgiue the trespasse of thine handmaide: for the Lord will make my lorde a sure house, because my lord fighteth the battels of the Lord, and none euill hath bene found in thee in all thy life.

Pardonne, je te prie, la transgression de ta servante, car l’Éternel fera certainement une maison stable à mon seigneur; car mon seigneur combat les combats de l’Éternel, et la méchanceté n’a jamais été trouvée en toi.

29 Yet a man hath risen vp to persecute thee, and to seeke thy soule, but the soule of my lorde shall be bounde in the bundel of life with the Lord thy God: and the soule of thine enemies shall God cast out, as out of the middle of a sling.

Et un homme s’est levé pour te poursuivre et pour chercher ta vie, mais la vie de mon seigneur est liée dans le faisceau des vivants par-devers l’Éternel, ton Dieu; et l’âme de tes ennemis, il la lancera du creux de la fronde.

30 And when the Lord shall haue done to my lord al the good that he hath promised thee, and shall haue made thee ruler ouer Israel,

Et il arrivera que, lorsque l’Éternel aura fait à mon seigneur selon tout le bien dont il a parlé à ton sujet, et qu’il t’aura établi prince sur Israël,

31 Then shall it be no griefe vnto thee, nor offence of minde vnto my lord, that he hath not shed blood causelesse, nor that my lorde hath not preserued him selfe: and when the Lord shall haue dealt well with my lorde, remember thine handmaide.

ceci ne sera point pour toi une occasion de chute, ni un achoppement pour le cœur de mon seigneur, d’avoir sans cause versé le sang, et que mon seigneur se soit fait justice à lui-même. Et quand l’Éternel aura fait du bien à mon seigneur, souviens-toi de ta servante.

32 Then Dauid said to Abigail, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meete me.

Et David dit à Abigaïl: Béni soit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui en ce jour t’a envoyée à ma rencontre!

33 And blessed be thy counsel, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from comming to shed blood, and that mine hand hath not saued me.

Et bénie soit ta sagesse, et bénie sois-tu, toi qui en ce jour m’as empêché d’en venir au sang et de me faire justice par ma main!

34 For in deede, as the Lord God of Israel liueth, who hath kept me backe from hurting thee, except thou haddest hasted and met mee, surely there had not bene left vnto Nabal by the dawning of the day, any that pisseth against the wall.

Mais l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui m’a empêché de te faire du tort, est vivant, que si tu ne t’étais hâtée et n’étais venue à ma rencontre, il ne serait pas resté à Nabal un seul homme jusqu’à la lumière du matin.

35 Then Dauid receiued of her hande that which she had brought him, and said to her, Goe vp in peace to thine house: beholde, I haue heard thy voyce, and haue graunted thy petition.

Et David prit de sa main ce qu’elle lui avait apporté, et il lui dit: Monte en paix dans ta maison; regarde, j’ai écouté ta voix, et je t’ai accueillie avec faveur.

36 So Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he made a feast in his house, like the feast of a King, and Nabals heart was merie within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore shee tolde him nothing, neither lesse nor more, vntil the morning arose.

Et Abigaïl vint vers Nabal; et voici, il faisait dans sa maison un festin comme un festin de roi; et le cœur de Nabal était gai, et il était ivre à l’excès; aussi elle ne lui raconta aucune chose, ni petite, ni grande, jusqu’à la lumière du matin.

37 Then in the morning when the wine was gone out of Nabal, his wife tolde him those wordes, and his heart died within him, and he was like a stone.

Et il arriva le matin, quand le vin de Nabal eut passé, que sa femme lui rapporta ces choses; et son cœur mourut au-dedans de lui, et il devint comme une pierre.

38 And about ten dayes after, the Lord smote Nabal, that he dyed.

Et il arriva, environ dix jours après, que l’Éternel frappa Nabal, et il mourut.

39 Now when Dauid heard, that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the Lord that hath iudged the cause of my rebuke of ye hand of Nabal, and hath kept his seruant from euil: for the Lord hath recompensed the wickednesse of Nabal vpon his owne head. Also Dauid sent to commune with Abigail to take her to his wife.

Et David apprit que Nabal était mort, et il dit: Béni soit l’Éternel qui a pris en main ma cause touchant l’outrage que m’avait fait Nabal, et qui a retenu son serviteur de faire le mal! Et l’Éternel a fait retomber le mal de Nabal sur sa tête. Et David envoya parler à Abigaïl, afin de la prendre pour femme.

40 And whe the seruants of Dauid were come to Abigail to Carmel, they spake vnto her, saying, Dauid sent vs to thee, to take thee to his wife.

Et les serviteurs de David vinrent vers Abigaïl, à Carmel, et lui parlèrent, disant: David nous a envoyés vers toi afin de te prendre pour sa femme.

41 And she arose, and bowed her selfe on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thine handmayde be a seruant to wash the feete of the seruants of my lord.

Et elle se leva et se prosterna le visage contre terre, et dit: Voici, ta servante sera une esclave pour laver les pieds des serviteurs de mon seigneur.

42 And Abigail hasted, and arose, and rode vpon an asse, and her fiue maides folowed her, and she went after the messengers of Dauid, and was his wife.

Et Abigaïl se leva en hâte, et monta sur un âne, et ses cinq jeunes filles qui la suivaient; et elle s’en alla après les messagers de David, et fut sa femme.

43 Dauid also tooke Ahinoam of Izreel, and they were both his wiues.

David avait pris aussi Akhinoam de Jizreël, et elles furent toutes les deux ses femmes.

44 Now Saul had giuen Michal his daughter Dauids wife to Phalti the sonne of Laish, which was of Gallim.

Et Saül avait donné Mical, sa fille, femme de David, à Palti, fils de Laïsh, qui était de Gallim.
