1 Kings 1
1 Now when King Dauid was olde, and striken in yeeres, they couered him with clothes, but no heate came vnto him.
Le roi David était vieux, avancé en âge; on le couvrait de vêtements, sans qu'il pût se réchauffer.
2 Wherefore his seruants saide vnto him, Let there be sought for my lord ye King a yong virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him: and let her lie in thy bosome, that my lord the King may get heate.
Ses serviteurs lui dirent: « Que l'on cherche pour mon seigneur le roi une jeune fille vierge; qu'elle se tienne devant le roi et le soigne, et qu'elle couche dans ton sein, et mon seigneur le roi se réchauffera. »
3 So they sought for a faire young maide thoroughout all the coastes of Israel, and founde one Abishag a Shunamite, and brought her to the king.
On chercha dans tout le territoire d'Israël une jeune fille qui fût belle, et l'on trouva Abisag, la Sunamite, que l'on amena au roi.
4 And the maid was exceeding faire, and cherished the king, and ministred to him, but the King knew her not.
Cette jeune fille était fort belle; elle soigna le roi et le servit; mais le roi ne la connut point.
5 Then Adoniiah the sonne of Haggith exalted himselfe, saying, I will be king. And he gate him charets and horsemen, and fiftie men to run before him.
Or Adonias, fils de Haggith, s'élevait dans ses pensées, disant: « C'est moi qui serai roi. » Et il se procura des chars et des chevaux, et cinquante hommes courant devant lui.
6 And his father would not displease him from his childehood, to say, Why hast thou done so? And hee was a very goodly man, and his mother bare him next after Absalom.
Et son père ne lui avait jamais fait de peine dans sa vie en lui disant: « Pourquoi agis-tu ainsi? » En outre, Adonias était très beau de figure, et sa mère l'avait enfanté après Absalom.
7 And he tooke counsel of Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and of Abiathar the Priest: and they helped forward Adoniiah.
Il y eut des entretiens avec Joab, fils de Sarvia, et avec le prêtre Abiathar; et ils embrassèrent le parti d'Adonias.
8 But Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and Nathan the Prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the men of might, which were with Dauid, were not with Adoniiah.
Mais le prêtre Sadoc, Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, Nathan le prophète, Séméï, Réï et les vaillants hommes de David ne furent pas avec Adonias.
9 Then Adoniiah sacrificed sheepe and oxen, and fat cattel by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the kings sonnes, and al the men of Iudah ye Kings seruants,
Adonias immola des brebis, des bœufs et des veaux gras près de la pierre de Zohéleth, qui est à côté d'En-Rogel, et il invita tous ses frères, fils du roi, et tous les hommes de Juda, serviteurs du roi.
10 But Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah, and the mightie men, and Salomon his brother hee called not.
Mais il n'invita pas Nathan le prophète, ni Banaïas, ni les vaillants hommes, ni Salomon, son frère.
11 Wherefore Nathan spake vnto Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon, saying, Hast thou not heard, that Adoniiah ye sonne of Haggith doeth reigne, and Dauid our lord knoweth it not?
Alors Nathan dit à Bethsabée, mère de Salomon: « N'as-tu pas appris qu'Adonias, fils de Haggith, est devenu roi, sans que notre seigneur David le sache?
12 Now therefore come, and I will now giue thee counsell, howe to saue thine owne life, and the life of thy sonne Salomon.
Viens donc maintenant, laisse-moi te donner un conseil, afin que tu sauves ta vie et celle de ton fils Salomon.
13 Go, and get thee in vnto King Dauid, and say vnto him, Didest not thou, my lorde, O King, sweare vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne? why is then Adoniiah King?
Va, entre chez le roi David, et dis-lui: O roi, mon seigneur, n'as-tu pas fait serment à ta servante en disant: Salomon, ton fils, régnera après moi, et c'est lui qui s'assiéra sur mon trône? Pourquoi donc Adonias est-il devenu roi?
14 Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the King, I also will come in after thee, and confirme thy wordes.
Et voici, pendant que tu parleras là avec le roi, j'entrerai après toi, et je confirmerai tes paroles. »
15 So Bath-sheba went in vnto the King into the chamber, and the King was verie olde, and Abishag the Shunammite ministred vnto ye King.
Bethsabée se rendit auprès du roi, dans sa chambre; le roi était très vieux, et Abisag, la Sunamite, servait le roi.
16 And Bath-sheba bowed and made obeisance vnto the King. And the King saide, What is thy matter?
Bethsabée s'inclina et se prosterna devant lui, et le roi dit: « Que veux-tu? »
17 And shee answered him, My lorde, thou swarest by the Lord thy God vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne.
Elle lui répondit: « Mon seigneur, tu as fait serment à ta servante par Yahweh, ton Dieu, en disant: Salomon, ton fils, régnera après moi, et c'est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône.
18 And beholde, nowe is Adoniiah king, and now, my lord, O King, thou knowest it not.
Et maintenant, voici qu'Adonias est devenu roi, et cependant, toi, ô roi mon seigneur, tu l'ignores!
19 And he hath offred many oxen, and fatte cattel, and sheepe, and hath called all the sonnes of the King, and Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the captaine of the hoste: but Salomon thy seruant hath he not bidden.
Il a immolé des bœufs, des veaux gras et des brebis en grand nombre; et il a invité tous les fils du roi, le prêtre Abiathar, et Joab, chef de l'armée, mais il n'a pas invité Salomon, ton serviteur.
20 And thou, my lorde, O King, knowest that the eyes of all Israel are on thee, that thou shouldest tell them, who shoulde sit on the throne of my lord the King after him.
Cependant, ô roi mon seigneur, tout Israël a les yeux sur toi, pour que tu fasses connaître qui doit s'asseoir sur le trône du roi mon seigneur après lui.
21 For els when my lord the King shall sleepe with his fathers, I and my sonne Salomon shalbe reputed vile.
Autrement, lorsque le roi mon seigneur sera couché avec ses pères, il arrivera que nous serons, moi et mon fils Salomon, traités comme des criminels. »
22 And lo, while she yet talked with the King, Nathan also the Prophet came in.
Comme elle parlait encore avec le roi, voici que Nathan, le prophète, arriva.
23 And they tolde the King, saying, Beholde, Nathan the Prophet. And when he was come in to the King, hee made obeisance before the King vpon his face to the ground.
On l'annonça au roi, en disant: « Voici Nathan, le prophète. » Il entra en présence du roi et se prosterna devant lui, le visage contre terre;
24 And Nathan saide, My lorde, O King, hast thou said, Adoniiah shall reigne after mee, and he shall sit vpon my throne?
et Nathan dit: « O roi, mon seigneur, tu as donc dit: Adonias régnera après moi et il s'assiéra sur mon trône!
25 For hee is gone downe this day, and hath slaine many oxen, and fat cattel, and sheepe, and hath called al the Kings sonnes, and the captaines of the hoste, and Abiathar the Priest: and behold, they eate and drinke before him, and say, God saue King Adoniiah.
Car il est descendu aujourd'hui, il a immolé des bœufs, des veaux gras et des brebis en quantité, et il a invité tous les fils du roi, les chefs de l'armée et le prêtre Abiathar. Et voici qu'ils mangent et boivent devant lui, et ils disent: Vive le roi Adonias!
26 But me thy seruant, and Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and thy seruant Salomon hath he not called.
Mais il n'a invité ni moi, ton serviteur, ni le prêtre Sadoc, ni Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, ni Salomon, ton serviteur.
27 Is this thing done by my lord the King, and thou hast not shewed it vnto thy seruant, who should sitte on the throne of my lorde the King after him?
Est-ce bien par la volonté de mon seigneur le roi qu'une telle chose a lieu, sans que tu aies fait connaître à tes serviteurs qui doit s'asseoir sur le trône du roi mon seigneur, après lui? »
28 Then King Dauid answered, and saide, Call me Bath-sheba. And shee came into ye Kings presence, and stoode before the King.
Le roi David répondit et dit: « Appelez-moi Bethsabée. » Elle entra devant le roi et se présenta devant le roi.
29 And the King sware, saying, As the Lord liueth, who hath redeemed my soule out of all aduersitie,
Et le roi fit ce serment: « Vive Yahweh qui m'a délivré de toutes les adversités!
30 That as I sware vnto thee by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and hee shall sit vpon my throne in my place, so will I certainely doe this day.
Ce que je t'ai juré par Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël, en disant: Salomon, ton fils, régnera après moi, et il s'assiéra sur mon trône à ma place, — je le ferai en ce jour. »
31 Then Bath-sheba bowed her face to the earth, and did reuerence vnto the King, and said, God saue my lord King Dauid for euer.
Bethsabée s'inclina le visage contre terre et se prosterna devant le roi; et elle dit: « Vive à jamais mon seigneur, le roi David! »
32 And King Dauid saide, Call mee Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada. And they came before the King.
Le roi David dit: « Appelez-moi le prêtre Sadoc, Nathan le prophète, et Banaïas, fils de Joïadas. » Lorsqu'ils furent entrés en présence du roi,
33 Then the King said vnto them, Take with you the seruants of your lorde, and cause Salomon my sonne to ride vpon mine owne mule, and carie him downe to Gihon.
le roi leur dit: « Prenez avec vous les serviteurs de votre maître, faites monter mon fils Salomon sur ma mule, et vous le ferez descendre à Gihon.
34 And let Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet anoint him there King ouer Israel, and blowe ye the trumpet, and say, God saue king Salomon.
Là, le prêtre Sadoc et Nathan le prophète l'oindront pour roi sur Israël; et vous sonnerez de la trompette et vous direz: Vive le roi Salomon!
35 Then come vp after him, that hee may come and sit vpon my throne: and hee shall bee King in my steade: for I haue appointed him to be prince ouer Israel and ouer Iudah.
Puis vous remonterez après lui; il viendra s'asseoir sur mon trône, et il régnera à ma place, car c'est lui que j'établis pour être chef d'Israël et de Juda. »
36 Then Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada answered the King, and said, So be it, and the Lord God of my lord the King ratifie it.
Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, répondit au roi: « Amen! Qu'ainsi l'ordonne Yahweh, le Dieu de mon seigneur le roi!
37 As the Lord hath bene with my lorde the King, so be he with Salomon, and exalt his throne aboue the throne of my lorde king Dauid.
Comme Yahweh a été avec mon seigneur le roi, qu'il soit de même avec Salomon, et qu'il élève son trône au-dessus du trône de mon seigneur le roi David! »
38 So Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went downe and caused Salomon to ride vpon king Dauids mule, and brought him to Gihon.
Le prêtre Sadoc descendit avec Nathan le prophète, Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et, ayant fait monter Salomon sur la mule du roi David, ils le menèrent à Gihon.
39 And Zadok the Priest tooke an horne of oyle out of the Tabernacle, and anointed Salomon: and they blewe the trumpet, and all the people said, God saue king Salomon.
Le prêtre Sadoc prit dans le tabernacle la corne d'huile, et il oignit Salomon; on sonna de la trompette et tout le peuple dit: « Vive le roi Salomon! »
40 And all the people came vp after him, and the people piped with pipes, and reioyced with great ioye, so that the earth rang with the sound of them.
Puis tout le peuple monta après lui. Le peuple jouait de la flûte et se livrait à une grande joie; la terre se fendait au bruit de leurs clameurs.
41 And Adoniiah and all the ghestes that were with him, heard it: (and they had made an ende of eating) and when Ioab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, What meaneth this noise and vprore in the citie?
Adonias entendis ce bruit, ainsi que tous les conviés qui étaient avec lui, au moment où ils achevaient leur festin. En entendant le son de la trompette, Joab dit: « Pourquoi ce bruit de la ville en émoi? »
42 And as he yet spake, beholde, Ionathan the sonne of Abiathar the Priest came: and Adoniiah said, Come in: for thou art a worthie man, and bringest good tidings.
Il parlait encore, et voici que Jonathas, fils de prêtre Abiathar, arriva. Adonias lui dit: « Viens, car tu es un brave et porteur de bonnes nouvelles. »
43 And Ionathan answered, and said to Adoniiah, Verely our lord King Dauid hath made Salomon King.
Jonathas répondit et dit à Adonias: « Oui, vraiment! notre seigneur le roi David a fait roi Salomon.
44 And the King hath sent with him Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they haue caused him to ride vpon the Kings mule.
Le roi a envoyé avec lui le prêtre Sadoc, Nathan le prophète, Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et ils l'ont fait monter sur la mule du roi.
45 And Zadok the Priest, and Nathan ye Prophet haue anointed him King in Gihon: and they are gone vp from thence with ioy, and the citie is moued: this is the noise that ye haue heard.
Le prêtre Sadoc et Nathan le prophète l'ont oint pour roi à Gihon; de là ils sont remontés remontés joyeux, et la ville est en émoi: c'est là le bruit que vous avez entendu.
46 And Salomon also sitteth on the throne of the kingdome.
Salomon s'est même assis sur le trône royal.
47 And moreouer the Kings seruantes came to blesse our lord King Dauid, saying, God make the name of Salomon more famous then thy name, and exalt his throne aboue thy throne: therefore the King worshipped vpon the bed.
Et même les serviteurs du roi sont venus pour bénir notre seigneur le roi David, en disant: Que ton Dieu rende le nom de Salomon plus grand que ton nom, et qu'il élève son trône au-dessus de ton trône! Et le roi s'est prosterné sur son lit.
48 And thus sayd the King also, Blessed bee the Lord God of Israel, who hath made one to sit on my throne this day, euen in my sight.
Et même le roi a parlé ainsi: Béni soit Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël, qui m'a donné aujourd'hui un successeur sur mon trône, afin que je puisse le voir de mes yeux!»
49 Then all the ghestes that were with Adonijah, were afraide, and rose vp, and went euery man his way.
Tous les conviés d'Adonias furent saisis de terreur; ils se levèrent et s'en allèrent chacun de son côté.
50 And Adonijah fearing the presence of Salomon, arose and went, and tooke holde on the hornes of the altar.
Adonias, ayant peur de Salomon, se leva et s'en alla, et il saisit les cornes de l'autel.
51 And one tolde Salomon, saying, Beholde, Adonijah doeth feare King Salomon: for lo, he hath caught holde on the hornes of the altar, saying, Let King Salomon sweare vnto me this day, that he will not slay his seruant with the sword.
On l'annonça à Salomon en ces termes: « Voici qu'Adonias a peur du roi Salomon, et voici qu'il a saisi les cornes de l'autel en disant: Que le roi Salomon me jure aujourd'hui qu'il ne fera pas mourir son serviteur par l'épée! »
52 Then Salomon sayd, If he will shewe him selfe a worthy man, there shall not an heare of him fall to the earth, but if wickednes be found in him, he shall dye.
Salomon dit: « S'il se montre homme brave, il ne tombera pas à terre un de ses cheveux; mais s'il se trouve du mal en lui, il mourra. »
53 Then King Salomon sent, and they brought him from the altar, and he came and did obeisance vnto King Salomon. And Salomon sayde vnto him, Go to thine house.
Et le roi Salomon envoya des gens qui le firent descendre d'auprès de l'autel. Et Adonias vint se prosterner devant le roi Salomon; et Salomon lui dit: « Va dans ta maison. »
