Proverbs 18
1 He that separateth himself seeketh [his] pleasure, he is vehement against all sound wisdom.
੧ਜੋ ਦੂਸਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਅਲੱਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਖਰੀ ਬੁੱਧ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
੨ਮੂਰਖ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਖੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
੩ਦੁਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਪਮਾਨ, ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਗੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, [and] the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.
੪ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ, ਬੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਚਸ਼ਮਾ ਵਗਦੀ ਨਦੀ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.
੫ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਲੈਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਮੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਮਾਰਨਾ।
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
੬ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਣ ਦੇ ਜੋਗ ਠਹਿਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
7 A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
੭ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਬਾਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਬੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਲਈ ਫਾਹੀ ਹਨ।
8 The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
੮ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਆਦਲੀਆਂ ਬੁਰਕੀਆਂ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਢਿੱਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਵੜ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
9 He also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.
੯ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਲਸੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਡਾਊ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਹੈ।
10 The name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
੧੦ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇੱਕ ਪੱਕਾ ਬੁਰਜ ਹੈ, ਧਰਮੀ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.
੧੧ਧਨੀ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿੱਚ, ਪੱਕਾ ਨਗਰ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੈ।
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour [goeth] humility.
੧੨ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਮਰਤਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
੧੩ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਮੂਰਖਤਾਈ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ।
14 The spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
੧੪ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਆਤਮਾ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਸਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
15 The heart of an intelligent [man] getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
੧੫ਸਿਆਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
੧੬ਨਜ਼ਰਾਨਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਰਾਹ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
17 He that is first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
੧੭ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੋ ਸੱਚਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਭੇਤ ਖੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
੧੮ਪਰਚੀਆਂ ਪਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜੇ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਬਲਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
19 A brother offended is [harder to be won] than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.
੧੯ਰੁੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਭਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣਾ ਪੱਕੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ, ਝਗੜੇ ਕਿਲੇ ਦੇ ਅਰਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
20 A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.
੨੦ਆਦਮੀ ਦਾ ਢਿੱਡ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੁੱਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ।
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
੨੧ਮੌਤ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਉਸਦਾ ਫਲ ਖਾਣਗੇ।
22 Whoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.
੨੨ਜਿਹ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਨੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਵਸਤ ਲੱਭੀ, ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਈ।
23 He that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.
੨੩ਕੰਗਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਤਰਲੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਕਰੜਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
24 A man of [many] friends will come to ruin but there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
੨੪ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਭਰਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਨੇੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
