< Jezekiel 18 >
1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Naʻe toe hoko kiate au ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻo pehē,
2 Son of man, what mean you by this parable amongst the children of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten unripe grapes, and the children's teeth have been set on edge?
“Ko e hā hono ʻuhinga ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻoku mou lea ʻaki ʻae fakatātā ki he fonua ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻo pehē, ‘Kuo kai ʻe he ngaahi tamai ʻae kālepi mahi, pea kuo maninia ʻae nifo ʻoe fānau?’
3 [As] I live, says the Lord, surely this parable shall no more be spoken in Israel.
ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, “ʻO hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, ʻe ʻikai toe ʻaonga ke mou ʻai ʻae lea fakatātā ko ia ki ʻIsileli.
4 For all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son, they are mine: the soul that sins, it shall die.
Vakai, ʻoku ʻaʻaku ʻae laumālie kotoa pē; hangē ʻoku ʻaʻaku ʻae laumālie ʻoe tamai, ʻoku pehē foki ʻae laumālie ʻoe foha ʻoku ʻaʻaku ia: ko e laumālie ʻoku angahala ʻe mate ia.
5 But the man who shall be just, who executes judgement and righteousness,
“Ka koeʻuhi, kapau ʻe angatonu ha tangata, pea ne fai ʻaia ʻoku totonu mo lelei,
6 who shall not eat upon the mountains, and shall not at all lift up his eyes to the devices of the house of Israel, and shall not defile his neighbour's wife, and shall not draw near to her that is removed,
Pea kuo ʻikai kai ia ʻi he ngaahi moʻunga, pe hanga hono mata ki he ngaahi tamapua ʻi he fale ʻo ʻIsileli, pe te ne tonoʻi ʻae uaifi ʻo hono kaungāʻapi, pe te ne ofi ki ha fefine mahaki fakafefine,
7 and shall not oppress any man, [but] shall return the pledge of the debtor, and shall be guilty of no plunder, shall give his bread to the hungry, and clothe the naked;
Pea kuo ʻikai fakamālohiʻi ʻe ia ha taha, ka kuo ne toe ʻange ʻae meʻa naʻe tuku ko e fakamoʻoni kiate ia ʻoku fai totongi, pea ʻoku ʻikai maumauʻi ʻe ia ʻi ha fai mālohi, kuo ne foaki ʻene mā ki he fiekaia, pea kuo ne fakakofu ʻae telefua ʻaki ʻae kofu;
8 and shall not lend his money upon usury, and shall not receive usurious increase, and shall turn back his hand from injustice, shall execute righteous judgement between a man and his neighbour,
Ko ia ʻoku ʻikai foaki ke toe totongi mai, pea te ne maʻu hano tupu, pea kuo ne taʻofi hono nima mei he fai kovi, pea kuo ne fai ʻae fakamaau totonu ʻae tangata ki he tangata,
9 and has walked in my commandments and kept mine ordinances, to do them; he is righteous, he shall surely live, says the Lord.
Kuo ne ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻeku ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, pea kuo ne fai ki heʻeku ngaahi fakamaau, ke fai totonu; ko ia ia ʻoku angatonu, pea ko e moʻoni ʻe fakamoʻui ia,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua.
10 And if he beget a mischievous son, shedding blood and committing sins,
“Kapau te ne maʻu ha foha, ʻoku kaihaʻa, pea ʻoku ne lilingi ʻae toto, ʻo ne fai ʻo tatau ki he ngaahi meʻa ni,
11 who has not walked in the way of his righteous father, but has even eaten upon the mountains, and has defiled his neighbour's wife,
Pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne fai ha meʻa ʻi he ngaahi meʻa ʻoku totonu ni, ka kuo ne kai ʻi he ngaahi moʻunga, pea kuo ne tonoʻi ʻae uaifi ʻo hono kaungāʻapi,
12 and has oppressed the poor and needy, and has committed robbery, and not restored a pledge, and has set his eyes upon idols, has wrought iniquities,
Kuo ne fakamālohiʻi ʻae masiva mo e paea, kuo ne maumauʻi ʻi he fai mālohi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne toe ʻange ʻae meʻa naʻe tuku ko e fakamoʻoni, pea kuo ne hanga hake hono mata ki he ngaahi tamapua, pea kuo ne fai fakalielia,
13 has lent upon usury, and taken usurious increase; he shall by no means live: he has wrought all these iniquities; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
Kuo ne ʻatu meʻa ke toe totongi mai, pea kuo ne maʻu ʻa hono tupu: pea ʻe moʻui ia? ʻE ʻikai te ne moʻui: kuo ne fai ʻae ngaahi fakalielia ni kotoa pē; ko e moʻoni te ne mate; ʻe ʻiate ia pe ʻa hono toto.
14 And if he beget a son, and [the son] see all his father's sins which he has wrought, and fear, and not do according to them,
“Pea, vakai, kapau ʻe maʻu ʻe ia ha foha, ʻoku mamata ki he angahala kotoa pē kuo fai ʻe heʻene tamai, pea ʻoku ne tokanga, ka ʻoku ʻikai ke ne fai ʻo hangē ko ia,
15 and [if he] has not eaten on the mountains, and has not set his eyes on the devices of the house of Israel, and has not defiled his neighbour's wife,
16 and has not oppressed a man, and has not retained the pledge, nor committed robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has clothed the naked,
17 and has turned back his hand from unrighteousness, has not received interest or usurious increase, has wrought righteousness, and walked in mine ordinances; he shall not die for the iniquities of his father, he shall surely live.
Kuo ne taʻofi ʻa hono nima mei he masiva, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne maʻu ha totongi taʻetotonu, pe hano tupu, ka kuo fai ʻeku ngaahi fakamaau, mo ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻeku ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni; ʻe ʻikai mate ia koeʻuhi ko e fai kovi ʻa ʻene tamai, ko e moʻoni ʻe moʻui pe ia.
18 But if his father grievously afflict, or plunder, he has wrought enmity in the midst of my people, and shall die in his iniquity.
Ka ko ʻene tamai, koeʻuhi naʻa ne fakamālohi kakaha, ʻo ne maumau hono tokoua ʻi he fai mālohi, pea naʻa ne fai ʻaia naʻe ʻikai lelei ʻi he haʻohaʻonga ʻo hono kakai, vakai, ʻe mate moʻoni ia ʻi heʻene fai kovi.
19 But you will say, Why has not the son borne the iniquity of the father? Because the son has wrought judgement and mercy, has kept all my statues, and done them, he shall surely live.
“Ka ʻoku mou pehē, ‘Ko e hā? ʻIkai ʻoku fua ʻe he foha ʻae fai kovi ʻa ʻene tamai?’ ʻOka fai ʻe he foha ʻaia ʻoku lelei mo totonu, pea kuo ne tauhi ʻeku ngaahi fekau, mo ne fai ki ai, ʻe moʻui moʻoni ia.
20 But the soul that sins shall die: and the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, nor shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the iniquity of the transgressor shall be upon him.
Ko e laumālie ko ia ʻe angahala, ʻe mate ia. ʻE ʻikai fua ʻe he foha ʻae fai kovi ʻa ʻene tamai, pea ʻe ʻikai fua ʻe he tamai ʻae fai kovi ʻae foha: ko e māʻoniʻoni ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻe ʻiate ia pe, pea ko e fai kovi ʻae angahala ʻe ʻiate ia pē.
21 And if the transgressor turn away from all his iniquities which he has committed, and keep all my commandments, and do justice and mercy, he shall surely live, and shall by no means die.
“Ka ko eni, kapau ʻe tafoki ʻae angahala mei he angahala kotoa pē kuo ne fai, pea tauhi ʻe ia ʻeku ngaahi fekau, mo ne fai ʻaia ʻoku lelei mo totonu, ko e moʻoni ʻe fakamoʻui ia, ʻe ʻikai siʻi mate ia.
22 None of his trespasses which he has committed shall be remembers: in his righteousness which he has done he shall live.
Ko ʻene ngaahi angahala kotoa pē ʻaia kuo ne fai, ʻe ʻikai toe lau ia kiate ia: ʻe moʻui pe ia, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene māʻoniʻoni ʻaia kuo ne fai.
23 Shall I at all desire death of the sinner, says the Lord, as I [desire] that he should turn from [his] evil way, and live?
He ʻoku ou maʻu ha momoʻi fiemālie siʻi ʻi he mate ʻae angahala? ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ka ʻe ʻikai muʻa, ke tafoki ia mei hono hala, pea moʻui?
24 But when the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, according to all the transgressions which the transgressor has wrought, none of his righteousness which he has wrought shall be at all remembered: in his trespass wherein he has trespassed, and in his sins wherein he has sinned, in them shall he die.
Ka ʻi he liliu ʻae māʻoniʻoni mei heʻene māʻoniʻoni mo ne fai angahala, pea ne fai ʻo tatau mo e fakalielia kotoa pē ʻaia ʻoku fai ʻe he tangata angahala, ʻe moʻui ia? Ko ʻene māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē ʻaia kuo ne fai, ʻe ʻikai ha lau ki ai: ʻi he fai kovi kuo ne fai, mo e angahala, kuo ne angahala ai, ʻe mate pe ia ʻi ai.
25 Yet you have said, The way of the Lord is not straight. Hear now, all the house of Israel; will not my way be straight? Is your way straight?
“Ka ʻoku mou pehē, ‘ʻOku ʻikai fai tatau ʻae anga ʻa Sihova.’ Ko eni, fanongo, ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli: ʻIkai ʻoku tatau ʻa ʻeku anga? ʻIkai ko hoʻomou anga ʻamoutolu ʻoku fai kehekehe?
26 When the righteous turns away from his righteousness and commits a trespass, and dies in the trespass he has committed, he shall [even] die in it.
ʻOka liliu ʻae tangata māʻoniʻoni mei heʻene māʻoniʻoni ʻo ne fai angahala, pea mate ai ia; ko ʻene angahala kuo ne fai, ko ia ia te ne mate ai.
27 And when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and shall do judgement and justice, he has kept his soul,
Pea pehē, ʻoka liliu ʻae tangata angahala mei heʻene angahala ʻaia kuo ne fai, mo ne fai ʻaia ʻoku lelei mo totonu ʻe fakamoʻui ʻe ia ʻa hono laumālie ke moʻui.
28 and has turned away from all his ungodliness which he has committed: he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29 Yet the house of Israel say, The way of the Lord is not right. Is not my way right, O house of Israel? is not your way wrong?
Ka ʻoku pehē pe ʻe he fale ʻo ʻIsileli, ‘ʻOku ʻikai fai tatau ʻae meʻa ʻa Sihova.’ ʻE fale ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻIkai ʻoku fai tatau ʻa ʻeku anga? ʻIkai ko hoʻomou anga ʻamoutolu ʻoku fai kehekehe?
30 I will judge you, O house of Israel, says the Lord, each one according to his way: be converted, and turn from all your ungodliness, and it shall not become to you the punishment of iniquity.
Fakatomala pea fakatafoki ʻakimoutolu mei hoʻomou ngaahi angahala; ko ia ʻe ʻikai hoko ai hoʻomou angahala ko homou ʻauhaʻanga.
31 Cast away from yourselves all your ungodliness wherein you have sinned against me; and make to yourselves a new heart and a new spirit: for why should you die, O house of Israel?
“Liʻaki meiate kimoutolu ʻa hoʻomou angahala kotoa pē, ʻaia kuo mou fai hala ai; pea ngaohi kiate kimoutolu ʻae loto foʻou pea mo e laumālie foʻou: he ko e hā te mou fie mate ai ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli?
32 For I desire not the death of him that dies, says the Lord.
He ʻoku ʻikai te u fiemālie ʻi he mate ʻo ia ʻoku mate, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua: ko ia fakatafoki ʻakimoutolu, pea mou moʻui.”
