Judges 20
1 And all the children of Israel went out, and all the congregation was gathered as one man, from Dan even to Bersabee, and in the land of Galaad, to the Lord at Massepha.
Bấy giờ, cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều kéo ra đi, từ Ðan cho đến Bê -e-sê-ba, và cho đến xứ Ga-la-át; hội chúng tụ hiệp lại như một người trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, tại Mích-ba.
2 And all the tribes of Israel stood before the Lord in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.
Những quan trưởng của cả dân sự, tức là của các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, đều ra mắt trong hội của dân Ðức Chúa Trời: có bốn trăm ngàn lính bộ, có tài cầm gươm.
3 And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Massepha: and the children of Israel came and said, Tell us, where did this wickedness take place?
Vả, người Bên-gia-min đã hay rằng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Mích-ba. Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói: Hãy thuật lại cho biết tội ác nầy đã phạm làm sao?
4 And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I and my concubine went to Gabaa of Benjamin to lodge.
Người Lê-vi, chồng của người đờn bà bị giết, đáp rằng: Tôi có vào thành Ghi-bê-a, là thành của Bên-gia-min, với vợ bé tôi, đặng ngủ đêm tại đó.
5 And the men of Gabaa rose up against me, and compassed the house by night against me; they wished to slay me, and they have humbled my concubine, and she is dead.
Nhưng dân Ghi-bê-a dấy lên cùng tôi, đương ban đêm vây nhà tôi ở; chúng đã toan giết tôi, có hành hung cùng vợ bé tôi, và nó chết vì cớ đó.
6 And I laid hold of my concubine, and divided her in pieces, and sent [the parts] into every coast of the inheritance of the children of Israel; for they have wrought lewdness and abomination in Israel.
Ðoạn, tôi nắm lấy thây vợ bé tôi, chặt nó ra từng đoạn, gởi đi khắp địa phận của sản nghiệp Y-sơ-ra-ên; vì chúng nó có phạm một tội trọng, một sự sỉ nhục trong Y-sơ-ra-ên.
7 Behold, all ye [are] children of Israel; and consider and take counsel here among yourselves.
Nầy, hết thảy dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có mặt đây; anh em hãy bàn luận nhau và liệu định phải làm thế nào đây.
8 And all the people rose up as one man, saying, No one of us shall return to his tent, and no one of us shall return to his house.
Cả dân sự đứng dậy như một người mà rằng: Chẳng ai trong chúng ta sẽ trở lại trại mình; không ai rút về nhà mình.
9 And now this [is] the thing which shall be done in Gabaa; we will go up against it by lot.
Bây giờ, nầy là điều chúng ta phải xử cho Ghi-bê-a: Chúng ta sẽ đi lên đánh thành đó theo thứ tự của thăm nh»©t định.
10 Moreover we will take ten men for a hundred for all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred for a thousand, and a thousand for ten thousand, to take provision, to cause them to come to Gabaa of Benjamin, to do to it according to all the abomination, which they wrought in Israel.
Trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, chúng ta phải lấy mười người trong một trăm, trăm người trong một ngàn, ngàn người trong một muôn. Chúng ta sẽ đi tìm lương thực cho dân sự; rồi khi trở về, người ta phải xử Ghi-bê-a của Bên-gia-min, tùy theo sự sỉ nhục mà thành ấy đã phạm nơi Y-sơ-ra-ên.
11 And all the men of Israel were gathered to the city as one man.
Ấy vậy, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên nhóm nhau hãm đánh thành đó, hiệp lại như chỉ một người.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through the whole tribe of Benjamin, saying, What [is] this wickedness that has been wrought among you?
Các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên sai sứ giả đến cùng chi phái Bên-gia-min mà nói rằng: Tội ác đã phạm tại trong các ngươi là gì?
13 Now then give up the men the sons of transgressors that are in Gabaa, and we will put them to death, and purge out wickedness from Israel: but the children of Benjamin consented not to hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.
Bây giờ, hãy nộp cho chúng ta những người gian tà của Ghi-bê-a, để chúng ta xử tử chúng nó, và diệt điều ác khỏi giữa Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nhưng người Bên-gia-min không khứng nghe tiếng của anh em mình, là dân Y-sơ-ra-ên,
14 And the children of Benjamin were gathered from their cities to Gabaa, to go forth to fight with the children of Israel.
bèn ra khỏi thành họ, và nhóm hiệp tại Ghi-bê-a đặng giao chiến cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
15 And the children of Benjamin from their cities were numbered in that day, twenty-three thousand, [every] man drawing a sword, besides the inhabitants of Gabaa, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men of all the people, able to use both hands alike;
Trong ngày đó, người ta tu bộ người Bên-gia-min từ các thành mà đến; số là hai muôn sáu ngàn người nam, đều có tài cầm gươm, không kể dân Ghi-bê-a, được số bảy trăm người tinh-binh.
16 All these could sling with stones at a hair, and not miss.
Trong cả dân sự ấy có bảy trăm người tinh-binh thuận tay tả. Hết thảy những kẻ đó có tài dùng trành ném đá trúng một sợi tóc, mà chẳng hề sai trật.
17 And the men of Israel, exclusive of Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword; all these [were] men of war.
Người ta cũng tu bộ những người nam Y-sơ-ra-ên, không kể người Bên-gia-min, thì số được bốn mươi vạn người, có tài cầm gươm, thảy đều là chiến sĩ.
18 And they arose and went up to Baethel, and enquired of God: and the children of Israel said, Who shall go up for us first to fight with the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Juda shall go up first as leader.
Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Ghi-bê-a và cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời như vầy: Ai trong chúng tôi phải lên trước đặng giao chiến cùng người Bên-gia-min? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp: Giu-đa sẽ đi lên trước.
19 And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gabaa.
Vừa sáng ngày, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo đi và đóng trại gần Ghi-bê-a.
20 And they went out, all the men of Israel, to fight with Benjamin, and engaged with them at Gabaa.
Người Y-sơ-ra-ên ra đánh người Bên-gia-min, dàn trận cùng chúng tại trước Ghi-bê-a.
21 And the sons of Benjamin went forth from Gabaa, and they destroyed in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men down to the ground.
Người Bên-gia-min bèn ra khỏi Ghi-bê-a, và trong ngày đó, giết hai muôn ngàn người Y-sơ-ra-ên, nằm chật đất.
22 And the men of Israel strengthened themselves, and again engaged in battle in the place where they had engaged on the first day.
Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại phấn chí, dàn trận mới tại chỗ mình đã dàn ngày thứ nhứt.
23 And the children of Israel went up, and wept before the Lord till evening, and enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we again draw nigh to battle with our brethren the children of Benjamin? and the Lord said, Go up against them.
Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên khóc trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va cho đến chiều tối, cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va mà rằng: Tôi phải đi giao chiến lại cùng người Bên-gia-min, là anh em của tôi, chăng? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp: Hãy lên đánh nó!
24 And the children of Israel advanced against the children of Benjamin on the second day.
Ngày thứ nhì người Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo tới đánh ngươi Bên-gia-min.
25 And the children of Benjamin went forth to meet them from Gabaa on the second day, and destroyed of the children of Israel yet further eighteen thousand men down to the ground: all these drew sword.
Người Bên-gia-min cũng ra Ghi-bê-a nội ngày đó, đánh dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, lại giết nằm sải dưới đất một muôn tám ngàn người của dân ấy, thảy đều có tài cầm gươm.
26 And the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Baethel; and they wept, and sat there before the Lord; and they fasted on that day until evening, and offered whole-burnt-offerings and perfect sacrifices, before the Lord,
Bấy giờ, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên và cả dân sự đều đi lên Bê-tên, khóc và đứng tại đó trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, cữ ăn trong ngày ấy cho đến chiều tối, rồi dâng của lễ thiêu và của lễ thù ân tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va.
27 for the ark of the Lord God [was] there in those days,
Ðương khi ấy, hòm giao ước của Ðức Chúa Trời ở tại đó, có Phi-nê-a, con trai Ê-lê-a-sa, cháu A-rôn, phục sự trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va mà rằng:
28 and Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron stood before it in those days; and the children of Israel enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we yet again go forth to fight with our brethren the sons of Benjamin? and the Lord said, Go up, to-morrow I will give them into your hands.
Tôi còn phải giao chiến cùng người Bên-gia-min, anh em tôi, hay là tôi phải đình lại? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp: Hãy đi lên, vì ngày mai ta sẽ phó chúng nó vào tay các ngươi.
29 And the children of Israel set an ambush against Gabaa round about [it].
Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn phục binh chung quanh Ghi-bê-a.
30 And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and arrayed themselves against Gabaa as before.
Ngày thứ ba, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên, đánh người Bên-gia-min và dàn trận cùng Ghi-bê-a như các lần trước.
31 And the children of Benjamin went out to meet the people, and were all drawn out of the city, and began to smite and slay the people as before in the roads, whereof one goes up to Baethel, and one to Gabaa in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
Người Bên-gia-min ra đón dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bị dụ xa thành. Y như hai lần trước chúng khởi đánh và giết mấy người của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, chừng ba mươi người, tại trong hai con đường trải qua đồng bằng đi lên, một ngả tới Bê-tên, và ngả kia tới Ghi-bê-a.
32 And the children of Benjamin said, They fall before us as at the first: but the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them out from the city into the roads; and they did so.
Người Bên-gia-min nói rằng: Kìa, chúng nó bị bại trước mặt chúng ta như lần trước. Nhưng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói: Chúng ta hãy chạy trốn, dụ chúng nó ra cách xa thành, đến trong các đường cái.
33 And all the men rose up out of their places, and engaged in Baal Thamar; and the liers in wait of Israel advanced from their place from Maraagabe.
Hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn bỏ chỗ mình đứng, dàn trận tại Ba-anh-Tha-ma, và đạo binh phục của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phục của Y-sơ-ra-ên đâm sầm ra khỏi chỗ phục mình tại đồng bằng Ghi-bê-a.
34 And there came over against Gabaa ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel; and the fight [was] severe; and they knew not that evil was coming upon them.
Như vậy, xảy có một muôn tinh binh của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phục trước tại Ghi-bê-a xông tới, đánh giặc rất dữ dội; nhưng người Bên-gia-min không biết tai họa hãm lấy mình.
35 And the Lord smote Benjamin before the children of Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin in that day a hundred and twenty-five thousand men: all these drew sword.
Ðức Giê-hô-va đánh bại người chi phái Bên-gia-min trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên; và trong ngày đó, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên giết hai muôn năm ngàn mốt người Bên-gia-min, hết thảy đều có tài cầm gươm.
36 And the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten; and the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted in the ambuscade which they had prepared against Gabaa.
Người Bên-gia-min thấy rõ mình bị bại. Vả, người Y-sơ-ra-ên đã nhường bước cho người Bên-gia-min, vì chúng tin cậy nơi sự phục binh mình ở gần Ghi-bê-a.
37 And when they retreated, then the liers in wait rose up, and they moved toward Gabaa, and the whole ambush came forth, and they smote the city with the edge of the sword.
Những binh đã phục, lật đật xông hãm Ghi-bê-a, đi tới lấy gươm giết hết thảy cả người ở thành.
38 And the children of Israel had a signal of battle with the liers in wait, that they should send up a signal of smoke from the city.
Người Y-sơ-ra-ên đã hẹn một dấu hiệu với những binh phục, là những phục binh phải làm cho một ngọn khói đen cất lên khỏi thành.
39 And the children of Israel saw that the liers in wait had seized Gabaa, and they stood in line of battle; and Benjamin began to smite down wounded ones among the men of Israel about thirty men; for they said, Surely they fall again before us, as in the first battle.
Vậy, dân Y-sơ -r-ên đã thối lại trong trận, còn người Bên-gia-min khởi đánh và giết chừng ba mươi người Y-sơ-ra-ên. Chúng nói: Quả thật chúng nó bị thua trước mặt chúng ta như lần trước!
40 And the signal went up increasingly over the city as a pillar of smoke; and Benjamin looked behind him, and behold the destruction of the city went up to heaven.
Nhưng khi trụ khói khởi bay lên khỏi thành, người Bên-gia-min nhìn xem lại đằng sau, thấy cả thành đều có khói bay lên trời.
41 And the men of Israel turned back, and the men of Benjamin hasted, because they saw that evil had come upon them.
Bấy giờ, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trở lại, còn nhưng người Bên-gia-min lấy làm kinh hãi, vì thấy tai họa đã hãm áp mình.
42 And they turned to the way of the wilderness from before the children of Israel, and fled: but the battle overtook them, and they from the cities destroyed them in the midst of them.
Chúng xây lưng lại trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng; nhưng đạo binh Y-sơ-ra-ên theo riết gần, và những kẻ ra khỏi thành đều bị giết liền.
43 And they cut down Benjamin, and pursued him from Nua closely till they came opposite Gabaa on the east.
Chúng vây phủ người Bên-gia-min, đuổi theo và chà đạp họ tại nơi họ dừng lại, cho đến chỗ đối ngang Ghi-bê-a, về hướng mặt trời mọc.
44 And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men: all these [were] men of might.
Như vậy, một muôn tám ngàn người Bên-gia-min phải ngã, thảy đều là người dõng sĩ.
45 And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Remmon; and the children of Israel picked off of them five thousand men; and the children of Israel went down after them as far as Gedan, and they smote of them two thousand men.
Trong số người xây lưng chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng, hướng hòn đá Rim-môn, thì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên còn giết dọc đường năm ngàn người nữa, đoạn theo riết gần đến Ghi-bê-om thì giết hai ngàn người.
46 And all that fell of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew sword in that day: all these were men of might.
Vậy, số tổng cộng người Bên-gia-min ngã chết trong ngày đó là hai muôn năm ngàn người có tài cầm gươm, và thảy đều là người dõng sĩ.
47 And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Remmon, even [six] hundred men; and they sojourned four months in the rock of Remmon.
Lại có sáu trăm người xây lưng chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng, đến hòn đá Rim-môn và ở đó bốn tháng.
48 And the children of Israel returned to the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword from the city of Methla, even to the cattle, and every thing that was found in all the cities: and they burnt with fire the cities they found.
Ðoạn, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trở lại đánh người Bên-gia-min, dùng gươm giết hết thảy người ta ở trong thành, súc vật và hết thảy vật nào gặp được; lại hễ gặp thành nào, thì châm lửa đốt nó.
