Kings II 14
1 And Joab the son of Saruia knew that the heart of the king was toward Abessalom.
Men Joab, Serujas sønn, skjønte at kongens hjerte droges mot Absalom.
2 And Joab sent to Thecoe, and took thence a cunning woman, and said to her, Mourn, I pray thee, and put on mourning apparel, and anoint thee not with oil, and thou shalt be as a woman mourning for one that is dead thus for many days.
Da sendte Joab bud til Tekoa og hentet derfra en klok kvinne, og han sa til henne: Lat som om du har sorg, og klæ dig i sørgeklær og salv dig ikke med olje, men te dig som en kvinne som alt i lang tid har sørget over en død,
3 And thou shalt go to the king, and speak to him according to this word. And Joab put the words in her mouth.
og gå så inn til kongen og tal således til ham - og Joab la henne ordene i munnen.
4 So the woman of Thecoe went in to the king and fell upon her face to the earth, and did him obeisance, and said, Help, O king, help.
Og kvinnen fra Tekoa talte til kongen - hun kastet sig ned for ham med ansiktet mot jorden og sa: Hjelp, konge!
5 And the king said to her, What is the matter with thee? And she said, I am indeed a widow woman, and my husband is dead.
Kongen sa til henne: Hvad fattes dig? Hun svarte: Akk, jeg er enke; min mann er død.
6 And moreover thy handmaid had two sons, and they fought together in the field, and there was no one to part them; and the one smote the other his brother, and slew him.
Og din tjenerinne hadde to sønner, og de to kom i trette med hverandre ute på marken, og det var ingen som kunde skille dem at; så slo den ene til den andre og drepte ham.
7 And behold the whole family rose up against thine handmaid, and they said, Give up the one that smote his brother, and we will put him to death for the life of his brother, whom he slew, and we will take away even your heir: so they will quench my coal that is left, so as not to leave my husband remnant or name on the face of the earth.
Og nu har hele slekten reist sig mot din tjenerinne og sier: Kom hit med ham som slo sin bror ihjel, så vi kan ta hans liv til hevn for hans bror som han slo ihjel, og så vi også får ryddet arvingen av veien. Således kommer de til å utslukke den siste gnist jeg ennu har igjen, så de ikke levner min mann navn og efterkommere på jorden.
8 And the king said to the woman, Go in peace to thy house, and I will give commandment concerning thee.
Da sa kongen til kvinnen: Gå hjem igjen! Jeg skal ordne saken for dig.
9 And the woman of Thecoe said to the king, On me, my lord, O king, and on my father's house [be] the iniquity, and the king and his throne [be] guiltless.
Og kvinnen fra Tekoa sa til kongen: På mig, herre konge, og på min fars hus faller skylden, men kongen og hans trone skal være uten skyld.
10 And the king said, Who was it that spoke to thee? thou shalt even bring him to me, and [one] shall not touch him any more.
Kongen sa: Taler nogen til dig, skal du føre ham til mig; så skal han ikke mere gjøre dig noget.
11 And she said, Let now the king remember concerning his Lord God in that the avenger of blood is multiplied to destroy, and let them not take away my son. And he said, [As] the lord lives, not a hair of thy son shall fall to the ground.
Da sa hun: Kongen komme Herren sin Gud i hu, så ikke blodhevneren skal volde ennu mere ulykke, og de ikke får ryddet min sønn av veien. Han svarte: Så sant Herren lever: Det skal ikke falle et hår av din sønns hode til jorden.
12 And the woman said, Let now thy servant speak a word to my lord the king. And he said, Say on.
Da sa kvinnen: La din tjenerinne få tale ennu et ord til min herre kongen. Og han sa: Tal!
13 And the woman said, Why hast thou devised this thing against the people of God? or [is] this word out of the king's mouth as a transgression, so that the king should not bring back his banished?
Så sa kvinnen: Hvorfor tenker du da på slikt mot Guds folk? Efter det ord kongen har talt, er det som han selv var skyldig, når kongen ikke lar den han har støtt fra sig, komme tilbake.
14 For we shall surely die, and be as water poured upon the earth, which shall not be gathered up, and God shall take the life, even as he devises to thrust forth from him his outcast.
For alle må vi dø og bli som vann som er utøst på jorden og ikke kan samles op igjen, og Gud tar ikke livet, men tenker ut hvad som kan gjøres forat en som er støtt bort, ikke skal være bortstøtt fra ham.
15 And now whereas I came to speak this word to my lord the king, [the reason is] that the people will see me, and thy handmaid will say, Let one now speak to my lord the king, if peradventure the king will perform the request of his handmaid;
Og at jeg nu er kommet for å tale dette til min herre kongen, det er fordi folket skremte mig, og din tjenerinne tenkte da: Jeg vil tale til kongen; kanskje kongen vil gjøre efter sin tjenerinnes ord;
16 for the king will hear. Let him rescue his handmaid out of the hand of the man that seeks to cast out me and my son from the inheritance of God.
kongen vil nok høre på mig og fri sin tjenerinne fra den manns hånd som vil utrydde både mig og min sønn av Guds arv.
17 And the woman said, If now the word of my lord the king be gracious, —[well]: for as an angel of God, so [is] my lord the king, to hear good and evil: and the Lord thy God shall be with thee.
Og så tenkte din tjenerinne: Gid min herre kongens ord måtte bli mig til trøst, for min herre kongen er som en Guds engel til å høre både på godt og ondt! Så være da Herren din Gud med dig!
18 And the king answered, and said to the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the matter which I ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king by all means speak.
Da tok kongen til orde og sa til kvinnen: Dølg ikke for mig det som jeg nu vil spørre dig om! Kvinnen sa: Tal, herre konge!
19 And the king said, [Is] not the hand of Joab in all this matter with thee? and the woman said to the king, [As] thy soul lives, my lord, O king, there is no turning to the right hand or to the left from all that my lord the king has spoken; for thy servant Joab himself charged me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid.
Da sa kongen: Har ikke Joab sin hånd med i alt dette? Kvinnen svarte: Så sant du lever, herre konge: Ingen kan komme utenom noget av det min herre kongen taler, hverken til høire eller venstre. Det var din tjener Joab som påla mig dette og la alle disse ord i din tjenerinnes munn.
20 In order that this form of speech might come about [it was] that thy servant Joab has framed this matter: and my lord is wise as [is] the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
For å gi saken et annet utseende har din tjener Joab gjort dette; men min herre er vis, som en Guds engel i visdom, så han vet alt som hender på jorden.
21 And the king said to Joab, Behold now, I have done to thee according to this thy word: go, bring back the young man Abessalom.
Derefter sa kongen til Joab: Vel! jeg skal gjøre så! Ta nu avsted og før den unge mann Absalom tilbake!
22 And Joab fell on his face to the ground, and did obeisance, and blessed the king: and Joab said, To-day thy servant knows that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, for my lord the king has performed the request of his servant.
Da kastet Joab sig ned med ansiktet mot jorden og velsignet kongen, og han sa: Idag skjønner din tjener at jeg har funnet nåde for dine øine, herre konge, siden kongen vil gjøre efter sin tjeners ord.
23 And Joab arose, and went to Gedsur, and brought Abessalom to Jerusalem.
Så gjorde Joab sig rede og drog til Gesur og førte Absalom til Jerusalem.
24 And the king said, Let him return to his house, and not see my face. And Abessalom returned to his house, and saw not the king's face.
Men kongen sa: La ham ta hjem til sitt eget hus, men han skal ikke komme for mine øine. Så tok Absalom hjem til sitt eget hus og kom ikke for kongens øine.
25 And there was not a man in Israel so very comely as Abessalom: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.
Men så fager en mann som Absalom fantes det ikke i hele Israel, ingen som blev prist så høit; fra fotsåle til isse fantes det ikke lyte på ham.
26 And when he polled his head, (and it was at the beginning of every year that he polled it, because it grew, heavy upon him, ) even when he polled it, he weighed the hair of his head, two hundred shekels according to the royal shekel.
Og når han klippet håret på sitt hode - og det gjorde han hver gang året var til ende, fordi håret blev ham for tungt, og han måtte klippe det - så veide han sitt hår, og det veide to hundre sekel efter kongens vekt.
27 And there were born to Abessalom three sons and one daughter, and her name was Themar: she was a very beautiful woman, and she becomes the wife of Roboam son of Solomon, and she bears to him Abia.
Absalom fikk tre sønner og én datter som hette Tamar; hun var en fager kvinne.
28 And Abessalom remained in Jerusalem two full years, and he saw not the king's face.
Absalom bodde i Jerusalem i to år men kom ikke for kongens øine.
29 And Abessalom sent to Joab to bring him in to the king, and he would not come to him: and he sent to him the second time, and he would not come.
Så sendte Absalom bud til Joab for å få ham til å gå til kongen, men han vilde ikke komme til ham; og han sendte bud ennu en gang, men han vilde ikke komme da heller.
30 And Abessalom said to his servants, Behold, Joab's portion in the field [is] next to mine, and he has in it barley; go and set it on fire. And the servants of Abessalom set the field on fire: and the servants of Joab come to him with their clothes rent, and they said to him, The servants of Abessalom have set the field on fire.
Da sa han til sine tjenere: Se, her ved siden av mig har Joab et jordstykke, og der har han bygg; gå og sett ild på det! Og Absaloms tjenere satte ild på jordstykket.
31 And Joab arose, and came to Abessalom into the house, and said to him, Why have thy servants set my field on fire?
Da stod Joab op og gikk til Absaloms hus, og han sa til ham: Hvorfor har dine tjenere satt ild på det jordstykke som hører mig til?
32 And Abessalom said to Joab, Behold, I sent to thee, saying, Come hither, and I will send thee to the king, saying, Why did I come out of Gedsur? it would have been better for me to have remained there: and now, behold, I have not seen the face of the king; but if there is iniquity in me, then put me to death.
Absalom svarte: Jeg sendte jo bud til dig og bad dig komme hit, så jeg kunde sende dig til kongen og si ham fra mig: Hvorfor er jeg kommet hit fra Gesur? Det hadde vært bedre for mig om jeg ennu var der. Og nu vil jeg komme for kongens øine, og er det nogen brøde hos mig, så får han drepe mig.
33 And Joab went in to the king, and brought him word: and he called Abessalom, and he went in to the king, and did him obeisance, and fell upon his face to the ground, even in the presence of the king; and the king kissed Abessalom.
Da gikk Joab inn til kongen og sa det til ham, og han kalte Absalom til sig, og han kom inn til kongen; og han kastet sig på sitt ansikt til jorden for kongen, og kongen kysset Absalom.
