< Matthew 6 >

1 Be careful not to do your charity before men in order to be seen by them, otherwise ye have no reward from your Father in the heavens.
“Mwĩmenyererei mũtigekage ciĩko cianyu cia ũthingu mbere ya andũ nĩguo mamuone. Mũngĩĩka ũguo-rĩ, mũtirĩ kĩheo mũkaaheo nĩ Ithe wanyu ũrĩa ũrĩ igũrũ.
2 When therefore thou do charity, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
“Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, rĩrĩa ũkũheana kĩndũ kũrĩ arĩa abatari, ndũkae kwanĩrĩra ũrĩa ũreka na tũrumbeta, ta ũrĩa hinga ciĩkaga thunagogi-inĩ na njĩra-inĩ, nĩguo itĩĩagwo nĩ andũ. Ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ na ma, acio nĩmarĩkĩtie kwamũkĩra kĩheo kĩao gĩothe.
3 But when thou do charity, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand does,
No hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ũkũheana kĩndũ kũrĩ arĩa abatari-rĩ, ndũkareke guoko gwaku kwa ũmotho kũmenye ũrĩa guoko gwaku kwa ũrĩo kũreeka,
4 so that thy charity may be in secret. And thy Father who sees in secret will himself reward thee in the open.
nĩgeetha ũheani ũcio waku ũtuĩke wa hitho-inĩ. Nake Ithe wanyu, ũrĩa wonaga maũndũ marĩa mekagĩrwo hitho-inĩ, nĩakamũhe kĩheo.
5 And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites, because they love to pray having stood in the synagogues and in the corners of the thoroughfares, so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
“Na rĩrĩa mũkũhooya-rĩ, mũtikanatuĩke ta hinga, nĩgũkorwo ciendaga kũhooya irũgamĩte thĩinĩ wa thunagogi na macemanĩrio ma njĩra nĩguo cionwo nĩ andũ. Ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ na ma, icio nĩirĩkĩtie kwamũkĩra mũcaara wacio wothe.
6 But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy private room, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will reward thee in the open.
No hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ũkũhooya, toonya nyũmba yaku, ũhinge mũrango na ũhooye Thoguo ũrĩa ũtoonekaga. Nake Thoguo ũrĩa wonaga maũndũ marĩa mekagĩrwo hitho-inĩ, nĩagakũhe mũcaara waku.
7 And while praying do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they will be heard by their much speaking.
Na ningĩ hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mũkũhooya-rĩ, tigagai kũhũhũtĩka ta andũ arĩa matetĩkĩtie Ngai, nĩgũkorwo meciiragia nĩ mekũiguuo nĩ ũndũ wa kũraihia mahooya.
8 Be not therefore like them, for your Father knows what things ye have need of before ye ask him.
Mũtigatuĩke tao, nĩgũkorwo Ithe wanyu nĩoĩ kĩrĩa kĩmũbatairie o na mũtanamũhooya.
9 Pray ye therefore this way: Our Father in the heavens, hallowed be thy name.
“Nĩ ũndũ ũcio mwagĩrĩirwo nĩkũhooyaga atĩrĩ: “‘Ithe witũ ũrĩ igũrũ, rĩĩtwa rĩaku nĩrĩamũrwo,
10 May thy kingdom come. May thy will happen on the earth as also in heaven.
ũthamaki waku nĩũũke, ũrĩa wendete Wee nĩwĩkagwo gũkũ thĩ ta ũrĩa wĩkagwo kũu igũrũ.
11 Give us this day the bread sufficient for us.
Tũhe ũmũthĩ irio ciitũ cia gũtũigana.
12 And forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.
Na ũtũrekere mahĩtia maitũ, ta ũrĩa o na ithuĩ tũrekagĩra arĩa matũhĩtagĩria.
13 And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, because from thee is the kingdom and the power and the glory into the ages. Truly.
Na ndũgatũtware magerio-inĩ, no ũtũhonokagie kuuma kũrĩ ũrĩa mũũru.’
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Nĩgũkorwo mũngĩrekera andũ hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mamũhĩtĩria, o nake Ithe wanyu ũrĩa ũrĩ igũrũ nĩarĩmũrekagĩra.
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
No mũngĩaga kũrekera andũ mehia mao-rĩ, o nake Ithe wanyu ndarĩmũrekagĩra mehia manyu.
16 And when ye fast, become not like the gloomy looking hypocrites, for they make their faces unsightly, so that they may appear fasting to men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
“Ningĩ rĩrĩa mũkwĩhinga kũrĩa irio-rĩ, tigagai gũtukia mothiũ manyu ta ũrĩa hinga ciĩkaga, nĩgũkorwo nĩitukagia mothiũ macio nĩguo cionie andũ atĩ nĩciĩhingĩte kũrĩa irio. Ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ na ma, icio nĩirĩkĩtie kwamũkĩra mũcaara wacio wothe.
17 But when thou fast, anoint thy head, and wash thy face,
No rĩrĩa wĩhingĩte kũrĩa, wĩhakage maguta mũtwe na wĩthambage ũthiũ,
18 so that thou may not appear fasting to men, but to thy Father in secret. And thy Father, who sees in secret, will reward thee.
nĩguo andũ matikamenye atĩ nĩwĩhingĩte kũrĩa, tiga o Thoguo ũrĩa ũtoonekaga amenye; nake Thoguo ũrĩa wonaga maũndũ marĩa mekagĩrwo hitho-inĩ, nĩagakũhe mũcaara.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust deteriorates, and where thieves break through and steal,
“Tigagai kwĩigĩra mĩthiithũ gũkũ thĩ, kũrĩa indo irĩĩagwo nĩ memenyi na ikaroota, na kũrĩa aici mabunjaga makaiya.
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust deteriorates, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
No mwĩigagĩrei mĩthiithũ igũrũ, kũrĩa ĩtangĩrĩĩo nĩ memenyi kana ĩroote, na kũrĩa aici matangĩbunja maiye.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Nĩgũkorwo kũrĩa mĩthiithũ yanyu ĩrĩ, nokuo ngoro cianyu o nacio irĩĩkoragwo irĩ.
22 The light of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye is sound, thy whole body will be bright.
“Riitho nĩrĩo tawa wa mwĩrĩ. Maitho maku mangĩkorwo marĩ mega, mwĩrĩ waku wothe nĩũrĩiyũragwo nĩ ũtheri.
23 But if thine eye is bad, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is the darkness!
No rĩrĩ, maitho maku mangĩkorwo nĩ mathũku, mwĩrĩ waku wothe ũrĩiyũragwo nĩ nduma. Naguo ũtheri ũrĩa ũrĩ thĩinĩ waku ũngĩkorwo nĩ nduma-rĩ, nduma ĩyo kaĩ nĩ nene-ĩ!
24 No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or he will hold to one, and disparage the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
“Gũtirĩ mũndũ ũngĩhota gũtungatĩra aathani eerĩ. Nĩ ũndũ no athũũrire ũmwe, na ende ũcio ũngĩ; kana eheane harĩ ũmwe, na anyarare ũcio ũngĩ. Mũtingĩtungatĩra Ngai na mũtungatĩre mbeeca.
25 Because of this I say to you, be not anxious about your life, what ye may eat, or what ye may drink, nor yet for your body, what ye may wear. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the clothing?
“Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ, tigagai gũtangĩkĩra mĩoyo yanyu, nĩ ũndũ wa kĩrĩa mũrĩrĩĩaga kana kĩrĩa mũrĩnyuuaga; kana kĩrĩa mũrĩĩhumbaga mĩĩrĩ yanyu. Githĩ muoyo ndũrĩ bata gũkĩra irio, naguo mwĩrĩ ũkagĩa bata gũkĩra nguo?
26 Look to the birds of the sky, because they sow not, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not more valuable then they?
Ta rorai nyoni cia rĩera-inĩ; itihaandaga, kana ikagetha, kana ikaiga magetha ikũmbĩ, no Ithe wanyu ũrĩa ũrĩ Igũrũ nĩaciheaga irio. Githĩ inyuĩ mũtikĩrĩ a bata mũno gũkĩra icio?
27 And which man of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his life span?
Nũũ wanyu ũngĩhota kuongerera muoyo wake ithaa o na rĩmwe nĩ ũndũ wa gwĩtanga?
28 And why are ye anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, nor do they spin,
“Na nĩ kĩĩ gĩtũmaga mwĩtange nĩ ũndũ wa nguo? Ta rorai itoka cia gĩthaka ũrĩa ikũraga. Itirutaga wĩra kana ikogotha ndigi,
29 yet I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of these.
no ngũmwĩra atĩrĩ, o na Solomoni arĩ na riiri wake wothe ndagemete ta kĩmwe gĩacio.
30 And if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into an oven, will he not much more you, O ye of little faith?
Angĩkorwo ũguo nĩguo Ngai ahumbaga nyeki ya gĩthaka ĩrĩa ĩrĩ ho ũmũthĩ na rũciũ ĩgaikio mwaki-inĩ-rĩ, githĩ inyuĩ ndarĩkĩmũhumbaga wega makĩria, inyuĩ mwĩtĩkĩtie o hanini?
31 Be not therefore anxious, saying, What may we eat? or, What may we drink? or, What may we wear?
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, tigagai gwĩtanga, mũkĩũria atĩrĩ: ‘Tũkũrĩa kĩĩ?’ kana ‘Tũkũnyua kĩĩ?’ kana ‘Tũkwĩhumba kĩĩ?’
32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that ye need all these things.
Nĩgũkorwo maũndũ maya mothe nĩmo macaragio nĩ andũ arĩa matetĩkĩtie Ngai. No Ithe wanyu wa igũrũ nĩoĩ atĩ nĩmũbataragio nĩmo.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
No ambai mũcarie ũthamaki wake na ũthingu wake, na maũndũ maya mangĩ mothe o namo nĩarĩmũheaga.
34 Be not therefore anxious for the morrow, for the morrow will be anxious about things of itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil of it.
