2 Kronieken 9
1 De koningin van Sjeba, die veel van Salomon gehoord had, kwam om hem met raadsels op de proef te stellen. Vergezeld van een groot gevolg trok ze met een tros kamelen, die met reukwerken en heel veel goud en edelstenen beladen waren, naar Jerusalem. Bij Salomon aangekomen, vroeg ze hem alles, wat haar in de gedachte kwam.
Also the queen of Saba, whanne sche hadde herd the fame of Salomon, cam to tempte hym in derk figuris `in to Jerusalem, with grete ritchessis, and camels, that baren swete smellynge spices, and ful myche of gold, and preciouse iemmes, `ether peerlis. And whanne sche was comun to Salomon, sche spak to hym what euer thingis weren in hir herte.
2 Maar Salomon verklaarde haar de zin van al haar woorden; niets bleef voor den koning verborgen, zodat hij het haar niet verklaren kon.
And Salomon expownede to hir alle thingis whiche sche hadde put forth, and no thing was, which he made not opyn to hir.
3 Toen nu de koningin van Sjeba bemerkte, hoe wijs Salomon was, en zij het paleis zag, dat hij gebouwd had,
And aftir that sche siy these thingis, that is, the wisdom of Salomon, and the hows which he hadde bildid,
4 de spijzen van zijn tafel, de aanzittende hovelingen, de rijen bedienden in hun kledij en de schenkers, verder nog de slachtoffers, die hij opdroeg in de tempel van Jahweh, raakte zij buiten zichzelf,
also and the metis of his boord, and the dwellyng places of seruauntis, and the offices of hise mynystris, and the clothis of hem, and the boteleris, and her clothis, and the sacrifices whiche he offride in the hows of the Lord, spirit was no more in hir for wondryng.
5 en sprak tot den koning: Het is dus waar geweest, wat ik in mijn land over uw bezit en uw wijsheid gehoord heb.
And sche seide to the kyng, The word `is trewe, which Y herde in my lond, of thi vertues and wisdom;
6 Ik geloofde het niet, voordat ik hier kwam en het met eigen ogen zag. Maar waarlijk, nog niet de helft heeft men mij verteld; want gij bezit meer wijsheid en rijkdom, dan ik gehoord heb!
Y bileuyde not to telleris, til Y my silf hadde come, and myn yyen hadden seyn, and Y hadde preued that vnnethis the half of thi wisdom was teld to me; thou hast ouercome the fame bi thi vertues.
7 Gelukkig uw onderdanen, en gelukkig uw dienaren hier, die altijd voor u mogen staan, om uw wijsheid te horen.
Blessid ben thi men, and blessid ben thi seruauntis, these that stonden bifor thee in al tyme, and heren thi wisdom.
8 Gezegend zij Jahweh, uw God, die u zo heeft liefgehad, dat Hij u op zijn troon heeft geplaatst, als plaatsvervanger van Jahweh, uw God, en u, in zijn onvergankelijke liefde voor Israël, tot koning heeft aangesteld, om volgens recht en billijkheid te regeren.
Blessid be `thi Lord God, that wolde ordeyne thee on his trone kyng of the puple of `thi Lord God; treuli for God loueth Israel, and wole saue hym with outen ende, therfor he hath set thee kyng on hym, that thou do domes and riytfulnesse.
9 Toen gaf zij den koning honderd twintig talenten goud, edelstenen en ontzaglijk veel reukwerk. Nooit is er zoveel reukwerk aangevoerd, als de koningin van Sjeba toen aan koning Salomon heeft geschonken.
Forsothe sche yaf to the kyng sixe scoore talentis of gold, and ful many swete smellynge spices, and moost preciouse iemmes; ther weren not siche swete smellynge spices, as these whiche the queen of Saba yaf `to kyng Salomon.
10 Bovendien bracht de vloot van Chirom en die van Salomon, welke goud uit O fir haalde, ook sandelhout en edelstenen mee.
But also the seruauntis of Iram with the seruauntis of Salomon brouyten gold fro Ophir, and trees of thyne, and most preciouse iemmes; of whiche,
11 Van dit sandelhout maakte de koning bijzondere meubels voor de tempel van Jahweh en zijn eigen paleis, en verder nog citers en harpen voor de zangers. Tot op heden is er nooit meer zoveel sandelhout in het land Juda bij elkaar gezien.
that is, of the trees of thyne, the kyng made grees in the hows of the Lord, and in the hows of the kyng, `harpis also, and sautrees to syngeris; siche trees weren neuere seyn in the lond of Juda.
12 Van zijn kant gaf Salomon aan de koningin van Sjeba al wat ze maar wenste en vroeg, behalve wat hij haar met koninklijke mildheid uit eigen beweging schonk. Hierop aanvaardde zij de terugreis, en ging met haar dienaren weer naar haar land.
Forsothe Salomon yaf to the queen of Saba alle thingis whiche sche wolde, and whiche sche axide, many moo than sche hadde brouyt to hym. And sche turnede ayen, and yede in to hir lond with hir seruauntis.
13 Het gewicht van het goud, dat jaarlijks bij Salomon binnenkwam, bedroeg zeshonderd zes en zestig talenten.
Forsothe the weiyt of gold, that was brouyt to Salomon bi ech yeer, was sixe hundrid and sixe and sixti talentis of gold,
14 Hierbij kwamen de inkomsten van de kooplieden en kramers, en van alle koningen der Arabieren, en van de stadhouders van het land, die goud en zilver aan Salomon brachten.
outakun that summe whiche the legatis of dyuerse folkis, and marchauntis weren wont to brynge, and alle the kyngis of Arabie, and the princes of londis, that brouyten togidere gold and siluer to Salomon.
15 Daarenboven vervaardigde koning Salomon tweehonderd beukelaars van geslagen goud; zeshonderd sikkels goud waren voor iedere beukelaar nodig.
Therfor kyng Salomon made two hundrid goldun speris of the summe of sixe hundrid `floreyns, ether peesis of gold, that weren spendid in ech spere;
16 Verder driehonderd schilden, eveneens van geslagen goud; driehonderd sikkels goud waren er nodig voor elk schild. De koning hing ze op in het huis Libanonwoud.
and he made thre hundrid goldun scheeldis of thre hundrid floreyns, with whiche ech scheeld was hilid; and the kyng puttide tho in the armure place, that was set in the wode.
17 Ook maakte de koning een grote ivoren troon, die hij met fijn goud bekleedde.
Also the kyng made a greet seete of yuer, and clothide it with clennest gold;
18 Deze troon had zes treden. De rugleuning was van boven rond, en aan beide kanten van de zitting waren armleuningen aangebracht. Daarnaast stonden twee leeuwen.
and he made sixe grees, bi whiche me stiede to the seete, and a goldun stool, and tweyne armes, oon ayens `the tother, and twei liouns stondynge bisidis the armes;
19 Op de zes trappen stonden twaalf leeuwen, aan weerskanten één op iedere trap. Voor geen enkel koninkrijk werd ooit zo iets gemaakt!
but also he made twelue othere litle liouns stondynge on sixe grees on euer either side. Siche a seete was not in alle rewmes.
20 Al de drinkschalen van Salomon waren van goud, zelfs het gerief van het huis Libanonwoud was van zuiver goud. Zilver was er niet; dat was in Salomons dagen niet in tel.
And alle the vessels of the feeste of the kyng weren of gold, and the vessels of the hows of the forest of the Liban weren of pureste gold; for siluer in tho daies was arettid for nouyt.
21 Want de koning had een Tarsjisjvloot op zee met schepen van Chirom; en eens in de drie jaar kwam die Tarsjisjvloot binnen met een lading goud, behalve het zilver en ivoor, de apen en de pauwen.
For also the schippis of the kyng yeden in to Tharsis with the seruauntis of Iram onys in thre yeer, and brouyten fro thennus gold, and siluer, and yuer, and apis, and pokokis.
22 Zo stak Salomon in rijkdom en wijsheid boven alle koningen der aarde uit,
Therfor kyng Salomon was magnyfied ouer alle kyngis of erthe for richessis and glorie.
23 en iedereen verlangde Salomon te zien, om de wijsheid te horen, die God in zijn hart had gestort.
And alle the kyngis of londis desireden to se the face of Salomon, for to here the wisdom which God hadde youe in his herte; and thei brouyten to hym yiftis,
24 Een ieder bracht dan geschenken mee, gouden en zilveren voorwerpen, gewaden, wapens, reukwerk, paarden en muildieren. En dit geschiedde jaar in, jaar uit.
vessels of siluer and of gold, clothis and armuris, and swete smellynge spices, horsis and mulis, bi ech yeer.
25 Salomon bezat vierduizend span paarden en wagens, en twaalfduizend ruiters, die hij onderbracht in de wagensteden en de koninklijke gebouwen te Jerusalem.
Also Salomon hadde fourti thousynde of horsis in stablis, and twelue thousynde of charis and of knyytis; and `he ordeynede hem in the citees of charis, and where the kyng was in Jerusalem.
26 Hij heerste over alle koningen, van de Rivier af tot aan het land der Filistijnen en de grens van Egypte.
Forsothe he vside power on alle the kyngis, fro the flood Eufrates `til to the lond of Filisteis, and `til to the termes of Egipt.
27 Door het beleid van den koning werd het zilver te Jerusalem zo overvloedig als stenen, en het cederhout zo overvloedig als de moerbei op de kustvlakte.
And he yaf so greet plente of siluer in Jerusalem, as of stoonys, and so greet multitude of cedris, as of sycomoris that growen in feeldi places.
28 De paarden van Salomon werden uit Moesri en allerlei andere landen betrokken.
Forsothe horsis weren brouyt fro Egipt, and fro alle cuntreis.
29 De verdere geschiedenis van Salomon, de vroegere zowel als de latere, staat beschreven in de Geschiedenis van den profeet Natan, in de profetie van Achi-ja van Sjilo, en in de visioenen van den ziener Jedo over Jeroboam, den zoon van Nebat.

30 Veertig jaren regeerde Salomon te Jerusalem over heel Israël.

31 Toen ging hij bij zijn vaderen te ruste. Hij werd in de stad van zijn vader David begraven, en zijn zoon Roboam volgde hem op.
and he slepte with his fadris; and thei birieden hym in the citee of Dauid, and Roboam, his sone, regnyde for hym.
