1 Hier volgt een opsomming van de israëlietische familiehoofden, de aanvoerders van duizend en honderd, met hun beambten, die den koning dienden in alle aangelegenheden der legerkorpsen, welke alle maanden van het jaar maandelijks in en uitrukten. Elk korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

Now, the sons of Israel—as to the number of them, the ancestral chiefs—and rulers of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who waited upon the king as to any matter of the courses, who came in and went out month by month, for all the months of the year, in each course, were twenty-four thousand.

2 Het eerste korps voor de eerste maand stond onder Jasjobam, den zoon van Zabdiël; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

Over the first course, for the first month, was Jashobeam, son of Zabdiel, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

3 Hij stamde af van de zonen van Fáres, en was het hoofd van alle legeraanvoerders van de eerste maand.

Of the sons of Perez, was the chief for all the rulers of the hosts, for the first month.

4 Het korps voor de tweede maand stond onder Dodai, uit de familie Achóach. De aanvoerder van zijn korps was Miklot; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

And, over the course for the second month, was Dodai an Ahohite, and, of his course, was Mikloth also a chief ruler, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

5 De legeraanvoerder voor de derde maand was Benajáhoe, de zoon van Jehojada, den opperpriester; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The ruler of the third host, for the third month, was Benaiah, son of Jehoiada the priest—a chief, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

6 Deze Benajáhoe was een van de dertig helden en aanvoerder van de Dertig; over zijn korps ging zijn zoon Ammizabad.

The same Benaiah, was a hero of thirty, and over the thirty, —and, over his course, was Ammizabad his son.

7 De vierde voor de vierde maand was Asaël, de broer van Joab. Hij werd opgevolgd door zijn zoon Zebadja; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel, brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son, after him, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

8 De vijfde voor de vijfde maand was de vorst Sjamhoet van de familie Zara; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

Of the fifth, for the fifth month, the ruler, was Shamhuth the Izrahite, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

9 De zesde voor de zesde maand was Ira, de zoon van Ikkesj uit Tekóa; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh, the Tekoite, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

10 De zevende voor de zevende maand was Chéles uit Bet-Pélet, die van Efraïm stamde; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

11 De achtste voor de achtste maand was Sibbekai van de familie Choesja uit het geslacht van Zara; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

12 De negende voor de negende maand was Abiézer uit Anatot, de Benjamiet; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

13 De tiende voor de tiende maand was Maharai uit Netofa, uit het geslacht Zara; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

14 De elfde voor de elfde maand was Benaja uit Piraton, die van Efraïm stamde; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the sons of Ephraim, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

15 De twaalfde voor de twaalfde maand was Cheldai uit Netofa, die van Otniël stamde; zijn korps telde vier en twintigduizend man.

The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel, —and, in his course, were twenty-four thousand.

16 De hoofden van de stammen Israëls waren: Eliëzer, de zoon van Zikri, van de stam Ruben; Sjefatjáhoe, de zoon van Maäka, van de stam Simeon;

Furthermore, over the tribes of Israel, the chief ruler of the Reubenites, was Eliezer, son of Zichri. Of the Simeonites, Shephatiah, son of Maacah.

17 Chasjabja, de zoon van Kemoeël, van de levieten, en Sadok van de aäronieten;

Of Levi, Hashabiah, son of Kemuel. Of Aaron, Zadok.

18 Elihoe, een van Davids broers, van de stam Juda; Omri, de zoon van Mikaël, van de stam Issakar;

Of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David. Of Issachar, Omri, son of Michael.

19 Jisjmajáhoe, de zoon van Obadjáhoe, van Zabulon; Jerimot, de zoon van Azriël, van Neftali;

Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah, son of Obadiah. Of Naphtali, Jeremoth, son of Azriel.

20 Hosjéa, de zoon van Azazjáhoe, van de zonen van Efraïm; Joël, de zoon van Pedajáhoe, van de halve stam Manasse;

Of the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Azaziah. Of the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel, son of Pedaiah.

21 Jiddo, de zoon van Zekarjáhoe, van de helft van Manasse in Gilad; Jaäsiël, de zoon van Abner, van Benjamin;

Of the half of Manasseh, in Gilead, Iddo, son of Zechariah. Of Benjamin, Jaasiel, son of Abner.

22 Azarel, de zoon van Jerocham, van Dan. Dit waren de stamhoofden van Israël.

Of Dan, Azarel, son of Jeroham. These, were the rulers of the tribes of Israel.

23 Het aantal van hen, die onder de twintig jaar waren, heeft David niet laten opnemen, omdat Jahweh beloofd had, de zonen Israëls zo talrijk te maken als de sterren aan de hemel.

But David took not the number of them, from twenty years old, and under, —because Yahweh had said, he would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens.

24 Wel was Joab, de zoon van Seroeja, begonnen met een volkstelling, maar omdat er tengevolge van deze poging een ramp over Israël was gekomen, kwam hij niet klaar. Daarom is dat aantal ook niet opgenomen in het boek der kronieken van koning David.

Joab son of Zeruiah, began to number, but finished not, when there arose, on this account, indignation against Israel, —neither did the number come up into the account of the chronicles of King David.

25 De schatten des konings werden beheerd door Azmawet, den zoon van Adiël; de bezittingen op het land, in de steden, de dorpen en de vestingen door Jehonatan, den zoon van Oezzi-jáhoe.

And, over the treasuries of the king, was Azmaveth, son of Adiel. And, over the treasuries in the fields, in the cities, in the villages and in the castles, was Jonathan, son of Uzziah;

26 Opzichter van de landarbeiders, die de grond bewerkten, was Ezri, de zoon van Keloeb.

And, over the workers of the field, for the tillage of the ground, was Ezri, son of Chelub.

27 Over de wijngaarden ging Sjimi uit Rama; over de voorraden in de wijngaarden en de wijnkelders ging Zabdi, de Sjifmiet.

And, over the vineyards, was Shimei, the Ramathite. And, over that which was in the vineyards, for the treasuries of wine, was Zabdi, the Shiphmite.

28 Over de olijf- en moerbeiplantingen in de Sjefela ging Báal-Chanan uit Gader, over de voorraden Joasj.

And, over the olive-trees and the sycamore-trees that were in the lowland, was Baal-hanan the Gederite. And, over the treasuries of oil, was Joash.

29 Het vee, dat in de Sjaronvlakte weidde, werd verzorgd door Sjitrai uit Sjaron; het vee in de dalen door Sjafat, den zoon van Adlai.

And, over the herds that pastured in Sharon, was Shitrai, the Sharonite. And, over the herds in the vales, Shaphat, son of Adlai.

30 Voor de kamelen zorgde Obil, de Jisjmaëliet; voor de ezels Jechdejáhoe uit Meronot;

And, over the camels, was Obil, the Ishmaelite. And, over the asses, was Jehdeyahu the Meronothite.

31 voor de schapen Jaziz van de stam Hagri. Al dezen beheerden de bezittingen van koning David.

And, over the flocks, was Jaziz, the Hagrite. All these, were rulers over the possessions that belonged to King David.

32 Jonatan, een oom van David en een kundig man, was raadsman en geheimschrijver; Jechiël was belast met de opvoeding der koningskinderen.

And, Jonathan the relative of David, was a counsellor, a man of understanding and a scribe, was he. And, Jehiel son of Hachmoni, was with the sons of the king.

33 Achitófel was eveneens koninklijk raadsman, en Choesjai, van de familie Arki, de vertrouwensman van den koning.

And, Ahitophel, was counsellor to the king. And, Hushai the Archite, was the companion of the king.

34 Na Achitófel waren het Jehojada, de zoon van Benajáhoe, en Ebjatar. De legeroverste des konings was Joab.

And, after Ahitophel, was Jehoiada son of Benaiah—and Abiathar. And, the captain of the king’s army, was Joab.
