< 2 Samuel 20 >

1 To koro ne nitie ja-Benjamin machach ma nyinge Sheba wuod Bikri. Nogoyo turumbete kokok kowacho niya, “Waonge wat moro gi joka Daudi, kata gima oriwowa gi wuod Jesse! Yaye, ja-Israel moro ka moro odog e hembe!”
And there happened to be there a base fellow whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. And he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel.
2 Omiyo jo-Israel duto noweyo Daudi mondo oluw Sheba wuod Bikri. To jo-Juda to nodongʼ gi ruodhgi ka gia Jordan nyaka gichopo Jerusalem.
So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri, but the men of Judah clung to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
3 Kane Daudi odwogo dalane Jerusalem, nokawo monde apar mamoko mane oweyo mondo orit dalane, mine oketogi e ot moro miritogie. Nomiyogi gik ma gikonyorego, to ne ok oriwore kodgi. Nolornegi e ot nyaka ne githo, ka gidak ka mon ma chwogi otho.
And David came to his house at Jerusalem. And the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.
4 Eka ruoth nowacho ni Amasa niya, “Luong jo-Juda mondo obi ira bangʼ ndalo adek, to in bende ibi ka.”
Then the king said to Amasa, Call the men of Judah together to me within three days, and be thou here present.
5 Kane Amasa odhi luongo jo-Juda nokawo ndalo mangʼeny moloyo ndalo mane ruoth omiye.
So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together, but he delayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
6 Daudi nowachone Abishai niya, “Koro Sheba wuod Bikri biro hinyowa moloyo kaka Abisalom notimo. Kaw jolwenj ruodhi mondo ilawe, ka ok kamano to onyalo yudo mier madongo mochiel mi odonjie kendo olalnwa.”
And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom. Take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.
7 Omiyo jo-Joab gi jo-Kereth gi jo-Peleth kod jolweny mathuondi duto nowuok kotelnegi gi Abishai. Ne giwuok Jerusalem mondo gilaw Sheba wuod Bikri.
And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men. And they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
8 Kane pod gin e lwanda maduongʼ man Gibeon, Amasa nobiro romo kodgi. Joab norwako lepe mag lweny kendo notweyo okanda e nungone mosoyoe ligangla man e olalo. Kane osudo nyime, ligangla nolwar koa e olalo.
When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a belt with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath of it. And as he went forth it fell out.
9 Joab nowachone Amasa niya, “Idhi nade owadwa?” Eka Joab nomako Amasa gi yie tike gi lwete ma korachwich ka gima odwaro mose gi nyoth.
And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
10 To Amasa ne onge gi paro moro amora kuom ligangla mane ni e lwet Joab, kendo Joab nochwowo bund iye gi liganglano molal, mi nyimbiye noredhore piny. Amasa notho ma ok ochako ochwowe kendo. Eka Joab gi owadgi ma Abishai nolawo Sheba wuod Bikri.
But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand. So he smote him with it in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again, and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
11 Achiel kuom jo-Joab nochungʼ but Amasa mowacho niya, “Ngʼama jakor Joab; kendo moyie gi Daudi mondo oluw bangʼ Joab!”
And there stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said, He who favors Joab, and he who is for David, let him follow Joab.
12 Amasa noriere piny kochadhore gi rembe e dier yo, kendo ngʼatno noneno ka jolweny duto ne chungʼ kochopo kanyo. Bende ka noneno ka ji duto chungʼ kochopo kama Amasa nothoeno, noywaye oko mar yo motere e pap moume gi law.
And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.
13 Kane Amasa osegol e yo, ji duto nodhi gi Joab mondo gilaw Sheba wuod Bikri.
When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
14 Sheba nokadho e dier dhout Israel duto mochopo nyaka Abel Beth Maaka, bende nokadho e gwenge jo-Beri duto, kendo jogo nochokore kaachiel mondo oluwe.
And he went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites. And they were gathered together, and also went after him.
15 Migepe duto mag jolweny mane nigi Joab nobiro molworo Sheba ka en Abel Beth Maaka. Negigoyo agengʼa ne dala maduongʼno kendo ka gichungʼ e agengʼa molworo ohinga. To e kindeno mane gitwomo ohinganano mondo gimuke,
And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart. And all the people who were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
16 dhako moro mariek mane ni e dala maduongʼno nokok matek kowacho niya, “Winjuru! Nyisuru Joab obi ka mondo alos kode.”
Then a wise woman out of the city cried out, Hear, hear. Say, I pray you, to Joab, Come near here, that I may speak with thee.
17 Joab nodhi kama dhakono ne nitie, mi nopenjo niya, “In e Joab?” Nodwoke niya, “En an.” Nowachone niya, “Chik iti ni gima jatichni dwaro wachoni.” Joab nowacho niya, “Awinjo.”
And he came near to her, and the woman said, Are thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said to him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
18 Nomedo wuoyo kowachone niya, “Chon gi lala ji ne jawacho ni, ‘Dhi Abel mondo ngʼadnie rieko,’ kendo wachno ne rumo kamano.
Then she spoke, saying, They were accustomed to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel, and so they ended the matter.
19 Wan joma odak gi kwe kendo ma jo-adiera e piny Israel ka. In to itemo mondo iketh dala maduongʼ man Israel. Angʼo momiyo idwaro tieko oganda Jehova Nyasaye?”
I am of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. Thou seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?
20 Joab nodwoke niya, “Ngangʼ, ok en kamano! Mano gima ok anyal timo kendo ok anyal kethe!
And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy.
21 Ngangʼ, ok en kamano! To gima timore en ni ngʼat moro miluongo ni Sheba wuod Bikri, moa e piny gode mag Efraim, ema piem gi ruoth Daudi. Omiyo miya ngʼatno kende, to abiro weyo dala maduongʼni.” Dhakoni nowachone Joab niya, “Wiye ibiro dirni gi ewi ohinga.”
The matter is not so, but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
22 Eka dhakono nodhi ir ji gi riekone mane ongʼadono, kendo negingʼado wi Sheba wuod Bikri mi gidiro ni Joab. Omiyo nogoyo turumbete, mi joge no-aa mi giweyo dala maduongʼno kendo moro ka moro nodok e dalane. Joab to nodok Jerusalem ir ruoth.
Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.
23 Joab ne jatend jolweny Israel duto; ka Benaya wuod Jehoyada to ne otelo ne jolwenj jo-Kereth kod jo-Peleth.
Now Joab was over all the army of Israel, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites,
24 Adoniram to notelo ni joma tiyo tich achuna, Jehoshafat wuod Ahilud ne jandiko;
and Adoram was over the men subject to task work, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder,
25 Sheva ne jagoro; to Zadok gi Abiathar ne jodolo.
and Sheva was scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar were priests,
26 To Ira ja-Jair ne jadolo mar Daudi.
and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.
