Žalmy 49
1 Přednímu kantoru z synů Chóre, žalm. Slyšte to všickni národové, pozorujte všickni obyvatelé zemští.
For the Chief Musician; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
2 Tak z lidu obecného, jako z povýšených, tak bohatý, jako chudý.
Both low and high, rich and poor together.
3 Ústa má mluviti budou moudrost, a přemyšlování srdce mého rozumnost.
My mouth shall speak wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4 Nakloním k přísloví ucha svého, a při harfě vykládati budu přípovídku svou.
I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5 I proč se báti mám ve dnech zlých, aby nepravost těch, kteříž mi na paty šlapají, mne obklíčiti měla?
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?
6 Kteříž doufají v svá zboží, a množstvím bohatství svého se chlubí.
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7 Žádný bratra svého nijakž vykoupiti nemůže, ani Bohu za něj dáti mzdy vyplacení,
None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8 (Neboť by velmi drahé musilo býti vyplacení duše jejich, protož nedovedeť toho na věky),
(For the redemption of their soul is costly, and must be let alone for ever: )
9 Aby živ byl věčně, a neviděl porušení.
That he should still live alway, that he should not see corruption.
10 Nebo se vídá, že i moudří umírají, blázen a hovadný člověk zaroveň hynou, zboží svého i cizím zanechávajíce.
For he seeth that wise men die, the fool and the brutish together perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11 Myšlení jejich jest, že domové jejich věční jsou, a příbytkové jejich od národu do pronárodu; pročež je po krajinách nazývají jmény svými.
Their inward thought is, [that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [and] their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
12 Ale člověk v slávě netrvá, jsa podobný hovadům, kteráž hynou.
But man abideth not in honour: he is like the beasts that perish.
13 Taková snažnost jejich jest bláznovstvím při nich, však potomci jejich ústy svými to schvalují. (Sélah)
This their way is their folly: yet after them men approve their sayings. (Selah)
14 Jako hovada v pekle skladeni budou, smrt je žráti bude, ale upřímí panovati budou nad nimi v jitře; způsob pak oněchno aby zvetšel, z příbytku svého octnou se v hrobě. (Sheol h7585)
They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd: and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, that there be no habitation for it. (Sheol h7585)
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol: for he shall receive me. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
16 Neboj se, když by někdo zbohatl, a když by se rozmnožila sláva domu jeho.
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased:
17 Při smrti zajisté ničeho nevezme, aniž sstoupí za ním sláva jeho.
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; his glory shall not descend after him.
18 Ačťkoli duši své, pokudž jest živ, lahodí; k tomu chválí jej i jiní, když sobě čistě povoluje:
Though while he lived he blessed his soul, and men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,
19 A však musí se odebrati za věkem otců svých, a na věky světla neuzří.
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see the light.
20 Summou: Èlověk jsa ve cti, neusrozumí-li sobě, bývá učiněn podobný hovadům, kteráž hynou.
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
