< 1 Samuel 16 >
1 Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah, Israel kaminawk ukkung siangpahrang ah ohhaih ahmuen hoiah Saul to ka pahnawt boeh pongah, nasetto maw anih to palung na set thuih han vop? Moi takii pongah situi to lawn ah loe, caeh ah; Bethlehem vangpui ah kaom Jesse khaeah kang patoeh han; anih ih capanawk thung hoiah kami maeto siangpahrang ah ka qoih boeh, tiah a naa.
And the Lord said to Samuel, How long do you mourn for Saul, whereas I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and come, I will send you to Jessae, to Bethleem; for I have seen amongst his sons a king for me.
2 Toe Samuel mah, Kawbangmaw ka caeh thai tih? Saul mah thaih nahaeloe na hum tih, tiah a naa. Angraeng mah, Maitaw tala maeto hoih ah loe, Angraeng khaeah angbawnhaih sak hanah ka caeh han, tiah thui ah.
And Samuel said, How can I go? whereas Saul will hear of it, and kill me: and the Lord said, Take a heifer in your hand and you shall say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord.
3 Angbawnhaih sak naah Jesse to kawk ah; na sak han koi hmuen kang patuek han hmang; kang patuek ih kami to kai hanah situi bawh ah, tiah a naa.
And you shall call Jessae to the sacrifice, and I will make known to you what you shall do; and you shall anoint him whom I shall mention to you.
4 Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Samuel mah sak moe, Bethlehem vangpui ah caeh; anih angzoh tiah vangpui thung ih kacoehtanawk mah panoek o naah, tasoeh o moe, Nang loe poekmonghaih hoiah maw nang zoh? tiah a naa o.
And Samuel did all that the Lord told him; and he came to Bethleem: and the elders of the city were amazed at meeting him, and said, Do you come peaceably, you Seer?
5 Samuel mah, Kamong ah ni kang zoh; Angraeng khaeah angbawnhaih sak hanah kang zoh; ciimcai oh loe, angbawnhaih sak hanah kai hoi nawnto angzo oh, tiah a naa. Jesse hoi a caanawk to ciimcaisak pacoengah, angbawnhaih ahmuen ah a kawk.
And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves, and rejoice with me this day: and he sanctified Jessae and his sons, and he called them to the sacrifice.
6 Nihcae to ah angzoh o naah, Samuel mah Eliab to hnuk, to naah Angraeng mah situi bawh ih kami loe Anih hmaa ah oh boeh, tiah a poek.
And it came to pass when they came in, that he saw Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord's anointed [is] before him.
7 Toe Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah, Eliab ih tungkrang hoi somsanghaih to khen hmah; anih loe ka qoih ih kami na ai ni; kami mah khet ih hmuen to Angraeng mah khen ai; kami mah loe tasa bang ih tungkrang to khet, toe Angraeng mah loe palungthin ni khet, tiah a naa.
But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance, nor on his stature, for I have rejected him; for God sees not as man looks; for man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.
8 To naah Jesse mah Abinadab to kawk moe, Samuel hmaa ah caehsak; toe Samuel mah, Angraeng mah hae kami hae qoi ai, tiah a naa.
And Jessae called Aminadab, and he passed before Samuel: and he said, Neither has God chosen this one.
9 To pacoengah Jesse mah, Shammah to caehsak let bae; toe Samuel mah, Hae kami doeh Angraeng mah qoi ai, tiah a naa.
And Jessae caused Sama to pass by: and he said, Neither has God chosen this one.
10 Jesse mah a capa sarihto Samuel hmaa ah caehsak boih. Toe Samuel mah anih khaeah, Angraeng mah hae kaminawk hae qoi ai, tiah a naa.
And Jessae caused his seven sons to pass before Samuel: and Samuel said, the Lord has not chosen these.
11 To naah Samuel mah Jesse khaeah, Hae zetto khue maw capa na tawnh boeh? tiah a naa. Jesse mah, Kanawk koek maeto oh vop, toe anih loe tuu toep, tiah a naa. Samuel mah Jesse khaeah, Anih to kawksak ah, anih hae ah pha ai karoek to kang hnu mak ai, tiah a naa.
And Samuel said to Jessae, Hast you no more sons? And Jessae said, [There is] yet a little one; behold, he tends the flock. And Samuel said to Jessae, Send and fetch him for we may not sit down till he comes.
12 To pongah anih kawk hanah kami to patoeh; anih phak naah, anih loe ngan amling hup, krang hoih khue ai ah, khet kamcuk ah oh. To naah Angraeng mah, Anih boeh ni, angthawk loe situi bawh ah, tiah a naa.
And he sent and fetched him: and he was ruddy, with beauty of eyes, and very goodly to behold. And the Lord said to Samuel, Arise, and anoint David, for he is good.
13 To pacoengah Samuel mah situi suekhaih moi takii to lak moe, amnawkamyanawk hmaa ah anih to situi hoiah bawh; to na ni hoi kamtong David nuiah Angraeng ih Muithla to oh. To pacoengah Samuel loe angthawk moe, Ramah vangpui ah amlaem let.
And Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward: and Samuel arose, and departed to Armathaim.
14 Vaihi loe Angraeng ih Muithla mah Saul to caehtaak ving boeh pongah, muithla kasae mah anih to raihaih paek.
And the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.
15 Saul ih toksah tamnanawk mah anih khaeah, Khenah, Sithaw khae hoi kasae muithla mah raihaih ang paek boeh.
And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, and evil spirit from the Lord torments you.
16 Vaihi ka caeh o moe, katoeng kruek kop kami kang pakrong pae o hanah, kaicae ih angraeng mah a taengah toksah tamnanawk to lokpaek ah; to tiah nahaeloe Sithaw khae hoi kasae muithla na nuiah angzoh naah, katoeng kruek kop kami mah katoeng to na kruek pae ueloe, na poekhaih palungthin to nawm tih, tiah a naa o.
Let now your servants speak before you, and let them seek for our lord a man skilled to play on the harp; and it shall come to pass when an evil spirit comes upon you and he shall play on his harp, that you shall be well, and he shall refresh you.
17 To pongah Saul mah a tamnanawk khaeah, Katoeng kruek kop kami to pakrong oh loe, kai khaeah na hoi oh, tiah a naa.
And Saul said to his servants, Look now out for me a skilful player, and bring him to me.
18 A tamna maeto mah, Khenah, Bethlehem vangpui ah katoeng kruek kop parai Jesse capa maeto ka hnuk, anih loe thacak moe, misatuh kop kami ah oh; lokthuih thaih moe, krang doeh hoih, Angraeng loe anih hoi nawnto oh, tiah a naa.
And one of his servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jessae the Bethleemite, and he understands playing [on the harp], and the man [is] prudent, and a warrior, and wise in speech, and the man [is] handsome, and the Lord [is] with him.
19 To naah Saul mah Jesse khaeah laicaeh patoeh moe, Tuu toepkung, na capa David to na patoeh ah, tiah a naa.
And Saul sent messengers to Jessae, saying, Send to me your son David who is with your flock.
20 To pongah Jesse mah hrang to lak moe, takaw hoi misurtui pailang maeto phawhsak pacoengah, maeh caa maeto hoi nawnto a capa David to Saul khaeah patoeh.
And Jessae took a homer of bread, and a bottle of wine, and one kid of the goats, and sent them by the hand of his son David to Saul.
21 David loe Saul khaeah caeh moe, toksak amtong; Saul mah anih to paroeai palung; to pongah David loe anih ih misatukhaih hmuenmae phawkung ah suek.
And David went in to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him greatly; and he became his armour-bearer.
22 To naah Saul mah Jesse khaeah kami patoeh, David hae ka palung pongah, kai ih tok hae sah poe nasoe, tiah a thuisak.
And Saul sent to Jessae, saying, Let David, I pray you, stand before me, for he has found grace in my eyes.
23 Angraeng khae ih kasae muithla Saul khaeah phak naah, David mah katoeng to lak moe, kruek; to naah Saul loe hoihkhang kue, poeknawm kue moe, kasae muithla mah anih to caehtaak.
And it came to pass when the evil spirit was upon Saul, that David took his harp, and played with his hand: and Saul was refreshed, and [it was] well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him.
