< 1 Dungkrhoekhaih 21 >
1 Israel pacuek hanah Setan loe angthawk moe, Israel kaminawk kroek hanah David to pahruek.
And the devil stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
2 David mah Joab hoi zaehoikung angraengnawk khaeah, Beersheba hoi Dan karoek to caeh oh loe, Israel kaminawk to kroek oh; kami nazetto maw oh, tiah panoek hanah, kai khaeah na sin oh, tiah a naa.
And king David said to Joab and to the captains of the forces, Go, number Israel from Bersabee even to Dan, and bring me [the account], and I shall know their number.
3 Joab mah, Angraeng mah angmah ih kaminawk alet cumvai khoek to pungsak nasoe; toe ka angraeng siangpahrang, Israel caanawk loe ka angraeng ih tamna ah na ai maw oh o? To pongah tih han ih hae hmuen hae sak na koeh loe? Tipongah Israel nuiah zaehaih sak han na koeh loe? tiah a naa.
And Joab said, May the Lord add to his people, a hundred-fold as many as they [are], and [let] the eyes of my lord the king see [it]: all [are] the servants of my lord. Why does my lord seek this thing? [do it not], lest it become a sin to Israel.
4 Toe siangpahrang ih lok mah Joab to pazawk. To pongah Joab loe Israel prae boih ah caeh moe, Jerusalem ah amlaem let.
Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab; and Joab went out and passed through all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Joab mah milu cazin to David khaeah paek. Israel prae boih ah sumsen patoh thaih kaminawk, sang cumvai hatlaito oh o moe, Judah prae thungah sumsen patoh thaih kami, sang cumvai pali, sing sarihto oh o.
And Joab gave the number of the mustering of the people to David: and all Israel was a million and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and the sons of Juda [were] four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew sword.
6 Toe siangpahrang ih lok to Joab mah koeh ai pongah, Levi acaeng hoi Benjamin acaeng to kroek ai.
But he numbered not Levi and Benjamin among them; for the word of the king was painful to Joab.
7 Hae hmuen nuiah Sithaw palung anghoe ai pongah, Israel to boh.
And [there was] evil in the sight of the Lord respecting this thing; and he smote Israel.
And David said to God, I have sinned exceedingly, in that I have done this thing: and now, I pray thee, remove the sin of thy servant; for I have been exceedingly foolish.
9 Angraeng mah David ih tahmaa Gad khaeah,
And the Lord spoke to Gad the seer, saying,
10 caeh ah loe David khaeah Angraeng mah, Qoih koi hmuen thumto kang paek han, na koehhaih kang sak pae hanah, thumto thungah maeto qoi ah, tiah thuih, tiah thui paeh, tiah a naa.
Go and speak to David, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I bring three things upon thee: choose one of them for thyself, and I will do it to thee.
11 To pongah Gad mah David khaeah caeh moe, anih khaeah, Angraeng mah,
And Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Choose for thyself,
12 saning thumto khokhahaih maw, khrah thumto thung na misanawk sumsen hoiah ang tuk pazawk moe, na misanawk hmaa ah nam rohaih maw, to tih ai boeh loe Angraeng ih sumsen ah kaom, ni thumto thung prae boih ah nathaih kasae tonghaih hoi Angraeng ih van kami mah Israel prae boih parohaih maw, hae thumto thungah maeto qoih hanah thuih, tiah a naa. To pongah vaihi kai patoehkung Anih khaeah kawbangmaw ka thuih pae han, tiah poek het ah loe na thui ah, tiah a naa.
either three years of famine, or that thou shouldest flee three months from the face of thine enemies, and the sword of thine enemies [shall be employed] to destroy thee, or that the sword of the Lord and pestilence [should be] three days in the land, and the angel of the Lord [shall be] destroying in all the inheritance of Israel. And now consider what I shall answer to him that sent the message.
13 David mah Gad khaeah, Palung ka set parai; anih tahmenhaih loe len parai pongah, Angraeng ban ah na krahsak ah; kami ban ah na krahsak hmah, tiah a naa.
And David said to Gad, They are very hard for me, even [all] the three: let me fall now into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies [are] very abundant, and let me not fall by any means into the hands of man.
14 To pongah Angraeng mah Israel nuiah nathaih to phaksak, Israel kami sing sarihto duek o.
So the Lord brought pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Jerusalem phraek hanah Angraeng mah van kami maeto patoeh; van kami mah phreak ih hmuen to Angraeng mah khet naah, anih loe sak ih kasae hmuen pongah dawnpakhuem moe, parokung van kami khaeah, Khawt boeh, na ban to azuk ah, tiah a naa. Angraeng ih van kami loe Jebus kami Ornan ih cang atithaih ahmuen taengah angdoet.
And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord saw, and repented for the evil, and said to the angel that was destroying, Let it suffice thee; withhold thine hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite.
16 David mah khet tahang naah, long hoi van salakah angdoe, Jerusalem nuiah sumsen kalaek, Angraeng ih van kami to hnuk. David hoi kacoehtanawk loe kazii to angzaeng o boih moe, nihcae hmaa ah akuep o.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord, standing between the earth and the heaven, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem: and David and the elders clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17 David mah Sithaw khaeah, Kaimah na ai maw milu cazin ka koksak? Kai loe ka zae boeh, hmuen ka sakpazae boeh; hae ih tuunawk loe tih zaehaih maw sak o? Aw ka Angraeng Sithaw, kaimah hoi kam panawk ih imthung nuiah, na ban to krahsak ah; nangmah ih kaminawk nuiah, hae nathaih hae phasak hmah, tiah a naa.
And David said to God, [Was it] not I [that] gave orders to number the people? and I am the guilty one; I have greatly sinned: but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord God, let thy hand be upon me, and upon my father's house, and not on thy people for destruction, O Lord!
18 To pacoengah Angraeng ih van kami mah Gad khaeah, David khaeah caeh tahang ah loe, Jebus kami Ornan ih cang atithaih ahmuen ah, Angraeng hanah hmaicam sak hanah thui paeh, tiah a naa.
And the angel of the Lord told Gad to tell David, that he should go up to erect and altar to the Lord, in the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite.
19 David loe Angraeng ih ahmin hoiah Gad mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah caeh tahang.
And David went up according to the word of Gad, which he spoke in the name of the Lord.
20 Ornan loe cang atit li moe, hnukbang angqoi naah, van kami to hnuk; a taengah kaom a capa palitonawk loe anghawk o king.
And Orna turned and saw the king; and he hid himself and his four sons with him. Now Orna was threshing wheat.
21 David loe Ornan khaeah caeh, Ornan mah anih to hnuk naah, cang atithaih to toengh sut moe, David hmaa ah long ah akuep.
And David came to Orna; and Orna came forth from the threshing-floor, and did obeisance to David with his face to the ground.
22 David mah Ornan khaeah, Kai ih kaminawk nuiah nathaih to dip moe, Angraeng han hmaicam ka sak thai hanah, cang na tithaih ahmuen to atho hoiah na qansak ah, tiah a naa.
And David said to Orna, Give me thy place of the threshing-floor, and I will build upon it an altar to the Lord: give it me for its worth in money, and the plague shall cease from [among] the people.
23 Ornan mah David khaeah, La ah, ka angraeng siangpahrang mah a koeh ih hmuen to sah nasoe; khenah, hmai angbawnhaih paek hanah maitawnawk doeh kang paek; cang atit naah patoh ih thing doeh kang paek, angdaeh angbawnhaih sak hanah cang doeh kang paek; hmuennawk hae kang paek boih, tiah a naa.
And Orna said to David, Take it to thyself, and let my lord the king do what is right in his eyes: see, I have given the calves for a whole-burnt-offering, and the plough for wood, and the corn for a meat-offering; I have given all.
24 Toe David siangpahrang mah Ornan khaeah, To tih na ai, kakoep ah atho kang paek han; nang ih ahmuen to Angraeng hanah azom ah ka la mak ai, atho hoi qan ai ih hmuen hoiah angbawnhaih ka sah mak ai, tiah a naa.
And king David said to Orna, Nay; for I will surely buy it for its worth in money: for I will not take thy property for the Lord, to offer a whole-burnt-offering to the Lord without cost [to myself].
25 To pongah David mah Ornan ih lawkhmuen qanhaih atho sui shekel cumvai tarukto paek.
And David gave to Orna for his place six hundred shekels of gold [by] weight.
26 David mah to ahmuen ah Angraeng hanah hmaicam to sak; hmai angbawnhaih hoi angdaeh angbawnhaih to a sak moe, Angraeng to kawk; Angraeng mah kawkhaih lok to van hoiah pathim pae, angbawnhaih hmaicam to hmai mah kangh pae.
And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered up whole-burnt-offerings and peace-offerings: and he cried to the Lord, and he answered him by fire out of heaven on the altar of whole-burnt-offerings, and [it] consumed the whole-burnt-offering.
27 Angraeng mah van kami khaeah lokthuih pae pongah, anih mah a sumsen to tabu thungah pacaeng let.
And the Lord spoke to the angel; and he put up the sword into its sheath.
28 Jebus acaeng Ornan ih cang atithaih ahmuen hoiah Angraeng mah lok pathim pae, tiah David mah panoek naah, to ahmuen ah angbawnhaih to sak.
At that time when David saw that the Lord answered him in the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite, he also sacrificed there.
29 To nathuem ah Mosi mah praezaek ah sak ih Angraeng ih kahni im hoi hmai angbawnhaih hmaicam loe Gideon hmuensang ah ni oh.
And the tabernacle of the Lord which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of whole-burnt-offerings, [were] at that time in the high place at Gabaon.
30 Toe Angraeng ih van kami ih sumsen to zit pongah, David loe Sithaw lokdueng hanah hmabangah caeh thai ai.
And David could not go before it to enquire of God; for he hasted not because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
