1 পীলাত তখন যীশুকে নিয়ে গিয়ে চাবুক দিয়ে প্রহার করালেন।
Then Pilate, therefore, took Jesus and scourged him.
2 সৈন্যরা একটি কাঁটার মুকুট তৈরি করে তাঁর মাথায় পরালো। তারা তাঁকে বেগুনি রংয়ের পোশাক পরিয়ে দিল।
And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorn-branches, and put it upon his head; and they put on him a purple robe,
3 বারবার তাঁর কাছে গিয়ে তারা বলতে লাগল, “ইহুদি-রাজ নমস্কার!” আর তাঁর মুখে তারা চড় মারতে লাগল।
and said: Hail, King of the Jews. And they struck him with their open hands.
4 পীলাত আর একবার বাইরে এসে ইহুদিদের বললেন, “দেখো, ওকে অভিযুক্ত করার মতো আমি কোনো অপরাধ খুঁজে পাইনি, একথা জানানোর জন্য ওকে আমি তোমাদের কাছে বের করে নিয়ে এসেছি।”
Then Pilate came out again, and said to them: Behold, I bring him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in him.
5 কাঁটার মুকুট এবং বেগুনি পোশাক পরে যীশু বেরিয়ে এলে পীলাত তাদের বললেন, “এই দেখো, সেই ব্যক্তি!”
Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorn-branches, and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them: Be hold the man!
6 প্রধান যাজকবৃন্দ ও তাদের কর্মচারীরা তাঁকে দেখার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চিৎকার করে উঠল, “ওকে ক্রুশে দিন, ক্রুশে দিন!” পীলাত বললেন, “তোমরাই ওকে নিয়ে ক্রুশে দাও। যদি আমার কথা বলো, ওকে অভিযুক্ত করার মতো কোনো অপরাধ আমি পাইনি।”
When the chief priests and their attendants saw him, they cried out, saying: Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate said to them: Do you take him and crucify him; for I find no fault in him.
7 ইহুদিরা জোর করতে লাগল, “আমাদের একটি বিধান আছে এবং সেই বিধান অনুসারে লোকটিকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড ভোগ করতে হবে, কারণ সে নিজেকে ঈশ্বরের পুত্র বলে দাবি করেছে।”
The Jews answered: We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
8 একথা শুনে পীলাত আরও বেশি ভীত হয়ে পড়লেন
Then, when Pilate heard this word, he was the more afraid;
9 এবং প্রাসাদের ভিতরে ফিরে গিয়ে তিনি যীশুকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তুমি কোথা থেকে এসেছ?” কিন্তু যীশু তাঁকে কোনও উত্তর দিলেন না।
and he went into the governor’s palace again, and said to Jesus: Whence are you? But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 পীলাত বললেন, “তুমি কি আমার সঙ্গে কথা বলতে চাও না? তুমি কি বুঝতে পারছ না, তোমাকে মুক্তি দেওয়ার বা ক্রুশবিদ্ধ করার ক্ষমতা আমার আছে?”
Then Pilate said to him: Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to crucify you, and authority to release you?
11 যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “ঈশ্বর তোমাকে এ ক্ষমতা না দিলে আমার উপর তোমার কোনো অধিকার থাকত না, তাই যে আমাকে তোমার হাতে সমর্পণ করেছে, তার অপরাধ আরও বেশি।”
Jesus answered: You could have no authority over me, had it not been given you from above. Therefore, he that delivered me to you, has the greater sin.
12 সেই সময় থেকে পীলাত যীশুকে মুক্ত করার চেষ্টা করলেন, কিন্তু ইহুদিরা চিৎকার করে বলতে লাগল, “এই লোকটিকে মুক্তি দিলে আপনি কৈসরের বন্ধু নন। যে নিজেকে রাজা বলে দাবি করে, সে কৈসরের বিরুদ্ধাচরণ করে।”
After this Pilate sought to release him. But the Jews cried out, saying: If you release this man, you are not Cæsar’s friend. Every one that makes himself a king, speaks against Cæsar
13 একথা শুনে পীলাত যীশুকে বাইরে নিয়ে এলেন এবং পাষাণ-বেদি নামে পরিচিত এক স্থানে বিচারের আসনে বসলেন (অরামীয় ভাষায় স্থানটির নাম, গব্বথা)।
Then Pilate, when he heard that word, led Jesus out, and sat on the judgment-seat, in a place called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha;
14 সেদিন ছিল নিস্তারপর্বের প্রস্তুতির দিন। তখন প্রায় দুপুর। “এই দেখো, তোমাদের রাজা,” পীলাত ইহুদিদের বললেন।
it was the preparation for the passover, and about the third hour; and he said to the Jews, Behold your king!
15 কিন্তু তারা চিৎকার করে উঠল, “ওকে দূর করুন, দূর করুন, ওকে ক্রুশে দিন!” পীলাত জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমাদের রাজাকে কি আমি ক্রুশে দেব?” প্রধান যাজকেরা উত্তর দিলেন, “কৈসর ছাড়া আমাদের আর কোনও রাজা নেই।”
But they cried out: Away with him, away with him; crucify him! Pilate said to them: Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered: We have no king but Cæsar
16 অবশেষে পীলাত যীশুকে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ করার জন্য তাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করলেন। তখন সৈন্যরা যীশুর দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করল।
Then he, therefore, delivered him to them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
17 যীশু নিজের ক্রুশ বহন করে করোটি নামক স্থানে গেলেন (অরামীয় ভাষায় স্থানটির নাম গলগথা)।
And, bearing his cross, he went forth into a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called, in Hebrew, Golgotha,
18 তারা সেখানে অন্য দুজনের সঙ্গে তাঁকে ক্রুশার্পিত করল। দুই পাশে দুজন এবং মাঝখানে যীশু।
where they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the middle.
19 একটি বিজ্ঞপ্তি লিখিয়ে পীলাত ক্রুশে ঝুলিয়ে দিলেন। তাতে লেখা ছিল: নাসরতের যীশু, ইহুদিদের রাজা।
And Pilate wrote a superscription, and put it on the cross; and the writing was, JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20 যীশুকে যেখানে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ করা হয়েছিল, সেই স্থানটি ছিল নগরের কাছেই। অনেক ইহুদি এই বিজ্ঞপ্তিটি পড়ল। এটি লেখা হয়েছিল অরামীয়, লাতিন ও গ্রিক ভাষায়।
Therefore many of the Jews read this superscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. And it was written in Hebrew and in Greek and in Latin.
21 ইহুদিদের প্রধান যাজকেরা পীলাতের কাছে প্রতিবাদ জানাল, “‘ইহুদিদের রাজা,’ একথা লিখবেন না, বরং লিখুন যে এই লোকটি নিজেকে ইহুদিদের রাজা বলে দাবি করেছিল।”
Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate: Write not, The king of the Jews; but, that he said, I am the king of the Jews.
22 পীলাত উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি যা লিখেছি, তা লিখেছি।”
Pilate answered: What I have written, I have written.
23 সৈন্যরা যীশুকে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ করার পর তাঁর পোশাক চার ভাগে ভাগ করে প্রত্যেকে একটি করে অংশ নিল। রইল শুধু অন্তর্বাসটি। সেই পোশাকে কোনো সেলাই ছিল না, উপর থেকে নিচ পর্যন্ত বোনা একটি অখণ্ড কাপড়ে সেটি তৈরি করা হয়েছিল।
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his clothing, and made four parts, to each soldier a part; and they took his coat also. Now his coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
24 তারা পরস্পরকে বলল, “এটা আমরা ছিঁড়ব না, এসো, এটা কার ভাগে পড়ে, তা নির্ধারণ করার জন্য গুটিকাপাত করি।” শাস্ত্রের এই বাণী যেন পূর্ণ হয় তাঁর জন্য এ ঘটনা ঘটল: “আমার পোশাক তারা তাদের মধ্যে ভাগ করে নিল, আর আমার আচ্ছাদনের জন্য গুটিকাপাতের দান ফেলল।” সুতরাং, সৈন্যরা তাই করল।
Then they said, one to another, let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be. This was done that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says: They divided my clothing among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. The soldiers, therefore, did these things.
25 যীশুর ক্রুশের কাছেই দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন তাঁর মা, তাঁর মাসিমা, ক্লোপার স্ত্রী মরিয়ম এবং মাগ্দালাবাসী মরিয়ম।
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 যীশু সেখানে তাঁর মা এবং কাছেই দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা শিষ্যকে, যাঁকে তিনি প্রেম করতেন, তাঁকে দেখে, তাঁর মাকে বললেন, “নারী, ওই দেখো, তোমার পুত্র!”
Then Jesus, seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing by, said to his mother: Woman, behold your son.
27 এবং সেই শিষ্যকে বললেন, “ওই দেখো, তোমার মা!” সেই সময় থেকে, সেই শিষ্য তাঁর মাকে তাঁর বাড়িতে নিয়ে গেলেন।
Then he said to the disciple: Behold your mother. And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
28 এরপর, সবকিছুই সম্পূর্ণ হয়েছে জেনে, শাস্ত্রের বচন যেন পূর্ণ হয় সেইজন্য যীশু বললেন, “আমার পিপাসা পেয়েছে।”
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said: I thirst.
29 সেখানে রাখা ছিল এক পাত্র অম্লরস। তারা সেই অম্লরসে এক টুকরো স্পঞ্জ ভিজিয়ে, সেটিকে এসোব গাছের ডাঁটায় লাগিয়ে যীশুর মুখের কাছে তুলে ধরল।
Now a vessel full of vinegar had been set there; and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon a hyssop-stalk, and put it to his mouth.
30 সেই পানীয় গ্রহণ করে যীশু বললেন, “সমাপ্ত হল।” এই কথা বলে তিনি তাঁর মাথা নত করে তাঁর আত্মা সমর্পণ করলেন।
Therefore, when Jesus had received the vinegar, he said: It is finished. And he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.
31 সেদিন ছিল প্রস্তুতির দিন এবং পরদিন ছিল বিশেষ এক বিশ্রামদিন। ইহুদিরা চায়নি যে বিশ্রামদিনের সময় ওই দেহগুলি ক্রুশের উপর থাকে, তাই পা ভেঙে দিয়ে দেহগুলি ক্রুশের উপর থেকে নামাবার জন্য তারা পীলাতকে অনুরোধ করল।
Then the Jews, as it was the preparation, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for that sabbath-day was a great day, besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken down.
32 সৈন্যরা সেই কারণে এসে যীশুর সঙ্গে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ প্রথম ব্যক্তির এবং তারপর অন্য ব্যক্তির পা ভেঙে দিল।
Then came the soldiers and broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him.
33 কিন্তু তারা যীশুর কাছে এসে দেখল, ইতিমধ্যে তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়েছে, তাই তারা তাঁর পা ভাঙল না।
But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs:
34 বরং, সৈন্যদের একজন বর্শা দিয়ে যীশুর বুকে বিদ্ধ করলে রক্ত ও জলের ধারা নেমে এল।
but one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear; and immediately there came out blood and water.
35 যে এ বিষয়ের প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী, সেই সাক্ষ্যদান করেছে এবং তার সাক্ষ্য সত্য। সে জানে যে, সে সত্য কথা বলেছে এবং সে সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছে যেন তোমরাও বিশ্বাস করতে পারো।
And he that saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he speaks the truth, that you may believe;
36 শাস্ত্রের বচন পূর্ণ হওয়ার জন্য এই সমস্ত ঘটল, “তাঁর একটিও হাড় ভাঙা হবে না” এবং
for these things were done that the scripture might be fulfilled: A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 শাস্ত্রের অন্যত্র যেমন বলা হয়েছে, “তারা যাঁকে বিদ্ধ করেছে, তাঁরই উপরে দৃষ্টি নিবদ্ধ করবে তারা।”
And again another scripture says: They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38 পরে, আরিমাথিয়ার যোষেফ যীশুর দেহের জন্য পীলাতের কাছে নিবেদন জানালেন। যোষেফ ছিলেন যীশুর একজন শিষ্য, কিন্তু ইহুদি নেতাদের ভয়ে তাঁকে গোপনে অনুসরণ করতেন। পীলাতের অনুমতি নিয়ে, তিনি এসে যীশুর দেহ নিয়ে গেলেন।
And after this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave him permission. He then came and took away the body of Jesus.
39 তার সঙ্গে ছিলেন নীকদীম, যিনি রাত্রিবেলা যীশুর সঙ্গে পূর্বে সাক্ষাৎ করতে গিয়েছিলেন। নীকদীম প্রায় চৌত্রিশ কিলোগ্রাম গন্ধরস মিশ্রিত অগুরু নিয়ে এলেন।
Then came Nicodemus also, (who, at the first, had come to Jesus by night, ) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
40 যীশুর দেহ নিয়ে তারা দুজনে সুগন্ধি মশলা মাখিয়ে লিনেন কাপড়ের ফালি দিয়ে জড়ালেন। ইহুদিদের সমাধিদানের প্রথা অনুসারে তারা এ কাজ করলেন।
Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths, with the spices, according to the Jewish custom of burying.
41 যীশু যেখানে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ হয়েছিলেন, সেখানে একটি বাগান ছিল। সেই বাগানে ছিল একটি নতুন সমাধি, কাউকে কখনও তার মধ্যে কবর দেওয়া হয়নি।
Now, in the place where he was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.
42 সেদিন ছিল ইহুদিদের প্রস্তুতির দিন এবং সমাধিটি কাছেই ছিল বলে তারা সেখানেই যীশুর দেহ শুইয়ে রাখলেন।
There, then, on account of the preparation-day of the Jews, they laid Jesus, for the tomb was near.
