প্রবচন 23

1 ১ যেতিয়া তুমি কোনো শাসনকৰ্ত্তাৰ সৈতে ভোজনত বহা, তেতিয়া তোমাৰ সন্মুখত কোন আছে সাৱধানে লক্ষ্য কৰিবা।

If you sit to sup at the table of a prince, consider attentively the things set before you:

2 ২ কাৰণ তুমি যদি অধিক আহাৰ খাবলৈ ভাল পোৱা, তেনেহ’লে নিজৰ ডিঙিত নিজে ছুৰী দিবা।

and apply your hand, knowing that it behoves you to prepare such [meats]: but if you are very insatiable,

3 ৩ তেওঁৰ উত্তম খোৱা বস্তুলৈ হেঁপাহ নকৰিবা, কিয়নো সেয়ে প্ৰবঞ্চক আহাৰ।

desire not his provisions; for these belong to a false life.

4 ৪ ধনী হ’বলৈ অধিক কষ্ট নকৰিবা, কেতিয়া বন্ধ কৰিব লাগে সেই কথা জানিবলৈ যথেষ্ট জ্ঞানী হোৱা।

If you are poor, measure not yourself with a rich man; but refrain yourself in your wisdom.

5 ৫ যেতিয়া তোমাৰ দৃষ্টি ধনত পৰে, সেয়ে গুচি যায়, আৰু হঠাতে ডেউকা লগাই, আৰু ঈগলৰ দৰে আকাশলৈ উৰি যায়।

If you should fix your eye upon him, he will disappear; for wings like an eagle's are prepared for him, and he returns to the house of his master.

6 ৬ তোমাৰ আহাৰলৈ কোনো লোকে বহু সময় চাই থাকিলে, পাপী মানুহৰ আহাৰ ভোজন নকৰিবা, আৰু তেওঁৰ উত্তম খোৱা বস্তুলৈ হেঁপাহ নকৰিবা;

Sup not with an envious man, neither desire you his meats:

7 ৭ কাৰণ তেওঁ এনে এজন মানুহ যি তোমাৰ আহাৰৰ হিচাপ লয়। তেওঁ তোমাক কয়, “ভোজন-পান কৰা!” কিন্তু তেওঁৰ হৃদয় তোমাৰ সৈতে নাথাকে।

so he eats and drinks as if any one should swallow a hair, and do not bring him in to yourself, nor eat your morsel with him:

8 ৮ তুমি যি অলপ খাইছা, সেয়াও বমি কৰিবা, আৰু তোমাৰ অভিনন্দন বৃথা হ’ব।

for he will vomit it up, and spoil your fair words.

9 ৯ অজ্ঞানী লোকে শুনি থকাকৈ কথা নকবা; কিয়নো তেওঁ তোমাৰ প্রজ্ঞাৰ কথা তুচ্ছ কৰিব।

Say nothing in the ears of a fool, lest at any time he sneer at your wise words.

10 ১০ পুৰণি সীমাৰ দেৱাল আতৰাই নিদিবা, বা অনাথ সকলৰ পথাৰৰ সীমালঙ্ঘন নকৰিবা;

Remove not the ancient landmarks; and enter not upon the possession of the fatherless:

11 ১১ কিয়নো তেওঁলোকৰ মুক্তিকৰ্ত্তা বলৱান; আৰু তেওঁ তোমাৰ বিৰুদ্ধে তেওঁলোকৰ হৈ প্ৰতিবাদ কৰিব।

for the Lord is their redeemer; he is mighty, and will plead their cause with you.

12 ১২ তোমাৰ হৃদয়ে অনুশাসনলৈ মনোযোগ দিয়ক, আৰু জ্ঞানৰ কথালৈ তোমাৰ কাণ পাতা।

Apply your heart to instruction, and prepare your ears for words of discretion.

13 ১৩ সন্তানক শাস্তি দিবলৈ ত্রুটি নকৰিবা; কিয়নো তুমি তাক চেকনীৰে কোবালে সি নমৰিব।

Refrain not from chastening a child; for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die.

14 ১৪ তুমি যদি তাক চেকনীৰে কোবোৱা, তেনেহ’লে তুমি তাৰ আত্মা চিয়োলৰ পৰা ৰক্ষা কৰিবা। (Sheol h7585)

For you shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from death. (Sheol h7585)

15 ১৫ হে মোৰ পুত্র, যদি তোমাৰ হৃদয় জ্ঞানী হয়, তেনেহ’লে মোৰ হৃদয়ো আনন্দিত হ’ব;

Son, if your heart be wise, you shall also gladden my heart;

16 ১৬ যেতিয়া তোমাৰ ওঁঠে যথাৰ্থ কথা কয়, তেতিয়া মোৰ অন্তঃকৰণ উল্লাসিত হয়।

and your lips shall converse with my lips, if they be right.

17 ১৭ তোমাৰ হৃদয়ে পাপীক ঈৰ্ষা নকৰক; কিন্তু তুমি ওৰে দিনটো যিহোৱাৰ ভয়ত থাকা;

Let not your heart envy sinners: but be you in the fear of the Lord all the day.

18 ১৮ অৱশ্যে ইয়াত তোমাৰ ভবিষ্যত জড়িত হৈ আছে, আৰু তোমাৰ আশা খণ্ডন কৰা নহব।

For if you should keep these things, you shall have posterity; and your hope shall not be removed.

19 ১৯ হে মোৰ পুত্র, শুনা আৰু জ্ঞানী হোৱা, আৰু তোমাৰ হৃদয় সৰল পথত চলোৱা।

Hear, [my] son, and be wise, and rightly direct the thoughts of your heart.

20 ২০ সুৰা প্রিয় লোকৰ সৈতে সহযোগী নহ’বা, বা অধিক মাংস ভোজন কৰা সকলৰ সঙ্গী নহবা।

Be not a wine-bibber, neither continue long at feasts, and purchases of flesh:

21 ২১ কাৰণ মতলীয়া আৰু খকুৱা লোক দৰিদ্ৰ হয়, আৰু মানুহৰ টোপনিয়ে তেওঁলোকক ফটা বস্ত্র পিন্ধায়।

for every drunkard and whoremonger shall be poor; and every sluggard shall clothe himself with tatters and ragged garments.

22 ২২ তোমাক জন্ম দিয়া পিতৃৰ কথা শুনা, আৰু তোমাৰ মাতৃৰ বৃদ্ধা অৱস্থাত তেওঁক হেয়জ্ঞান নকৰিবা।

Listen, [my] son, to your father which begot you, and despise not [your mother] because she is grown old.

23 ২৩ সত্যক কিনা, কিন্তু ইয়াক বিক্রী নকৰিবা; প্রজ্ঞা, অনুশাসন, আৰু সুবিবেচনা কিনা।

24 ২৪ ন্যায় কাৰ্য কৰা জনৰ পিতৃ অতিশয় উল্লাসিত হয়, আৰু জ্ঞানী পুত্ৰৰ জন্মদাতাই তেওঁৰ বাবে আনন্দ কৰিব।

A righteous father brings up [his children] well; and his soul rejoices over a wise son.

25 ২৫ তোমাৰ পিতৃ আৰু মাতৃক আনন্দিত হ’বলৈ দিয়া, আৰু তোমাৰ জন্মদাতাক উল্লাসিত হ’ব দিয়া।

Let your father and your mother rejoice over you, and let her that bore you be glad.

26 ২৬ হে মোৰ পুত্র, তোমাৰ হৃদয় মোক দিয়া, তোমাৰ চকুক মোৰ পথলৈ নিৰীক্ষণ কৰিবলৈ দিয়া।

[My] son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.

27 ২৭ কাৰণ বেশ্যা দ গাতৰ দৰে, আৰু অন্য লোকৰ ভাৰ্যা ঠেক নাদৰ দৰে।

For a strange house is a vessel full of holes; and a strange well is narrow.

28 ২৮ তেওঁ ডকাইতৰ দৰে খাপ দি থাকে, আৰু মনুষ্যসকলৰ মাজত বিশ্বাসঘাতকতৰ দল বৃদ্ধি কৰে।

For such a one shall perish suddenly; and every transgressor shall be cut off.

29 ২৯ কাৰ দুৰ্দশা আছে? কাৰ দুখ আছে? কোনে কাজিয়া কৰে? কোনে অভিযোগ কৰে? কোনে অকাৰণে মাৰ খায়? কাৰ চকু ৰঙা হয়?

Who [has] woe? who trouble? who [has] quarrels? and who vexations and disputes? who [has] bruises without a cause? whose eyes are livid?

30 ৩০ যিসকলে বহুদিন দ্ৰাক্ষাৰসত লিপ্ত থাকে, আৰু যিসকলে দ্ৰাক্ষাৰসৰ মিহলাবলৈ চেষ্টা কৰে।

Are not those of them that stay long at wine? [are] not [those] of them that haunt [the places] where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse [with them] openly.

31 ৩১ যেতিয়া দ্ৰাক্ষাৰস ৰঙা হৈ থাকে, পাত্ৰত দগমগায়, আৰু সহজে পেটলৈ যায়, তেতিয়া তালৈ দৃষ্টি নকৰিবা।

For if you should set your eyes on bowls and cups, you shall afterwards go more naked than a pestle.

32 ৩২ শেষতে সেয়ে সাপৰ নিচিনাকৈ কামুৰিব, আৰু বিষাক্ত সাপৰ দৰে ইয়াৰ দংশন।

But at last [such a one] stretches himself out as one struck by a serpent, and venom is diffused through him as by a horned serpent.

33 ৩৩ তোমাৰ চকুৱে আচৰিত বস্তু দেখিব, আৰু তোমাৰ হৃদয়ে মন্দ কথা কব;

Whenever your eyes shall behold a strange woman, then your mouth shall speak perverse things.

34 ৩৪ প্রচণ্ড সমুদ্ৰৰ ওপৰত শোৱা জনৰ দৰে, বা জাহাজৰ মাজস্থলৰ ওপৰত শোৱা লোকৰ দৰে হবা;

And you shall lie as in the midst of the sea, and as a pilot in a great storm.

35 ৩৫ তুমি কবা, “তেওঁলোকে মোক মাৰিলে!” কিন্তু মই আঘাত পোৱা নাই, তেওঁলোকে মোক প্ৰহাৰ কৰিলে, কিন্তু মই অনুভব কৰা নাই। মই যেতিয়া সাৰ পাম? তেতিয়া মই পুনৰ দ্রাক্ষাৰস পান কৰিম।”

And you shall say, They struck me, and I was not pained; and they mocked me, and I knew it not: when will it be morning, that I may go and seek those with whom I may go in company?
