المَزامِير 137

١ 1 عَلَى ضِفَافِ أَنْهَارِ بَابِلَ جَلَسْنَا، وَبَكَيْنَا عِنْدَمَا تَذَكَّرْنَا أُورُشَلِيمَ.

For David, [a Psalm] of Jeremias. By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat; and wept when we remembered Sion.

٢ 2 هُنَاكَ عَلَّقْنَا أَعْوَادَنَا عَلَى أَشْجَارِ الصَّفْصَافِ.

We hung our harps on the willows in the midst of it.

٣ 3 هُنَاكَ طَلَبَ مِنَّا الَّذِينَ سَبَوْنَا أَنْ نَشْدُوَ بِتَرْنِيمَةٍ، وَالَّذِينَ عَذَّبُونَا أَنْ نُطْرِبَهُمْ قَائِلِينَ: «أَنْشِدُوا لَنَا مِنْ تَرَانِيمِ صِهْيَوْنَ».

For there they that had taken us captive asked of us the words of a song; and they that had carried us away [asked] a hymn, [saying], Sing us [one] of the songs of Sion.

٤ 4 كَيْفَ نَشْدُو بِتَرْنِيمَةِ الرَّبِّ فِي أَرْضٍ غَرِيبَةٍ؟

How should we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?

٥ 5 إِنْ نَسِيتُكِ يَا أُورُشَلِيمُ، فَلْتَنْسَ يَمِينِي مَهَارَتَهَا.

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget [its skill].

٦ 6 لِيَلْتَصِقْ لِسَانِي بِحَنَكِي إِنْ لَمْ أَذْكُرْكِ وَلَمْ أُفَضِّلْكِ عَلَى ذِرْوَةِ أَفْرَاحِي.

May my tongue cleave to my throat, if I do not remember thee; if I do not prefer Jerusalem as the chief of my joy.

٧ 7 اذْكُرْ يَا رَبُّ لِبَنِي أَدُومَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ يَوْمَ خَرَابِ أُورُشَلِيمَ، إِذْ قَالُوا: «اهْدِمُوا اهْدِمُوا حَتَّى يَتَعَرَّى أَسَاسُهَا».

Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase [it], rase [it], even to its foundations.

٨ 8 يَا بِنْتَ بَابِلَ الْمُحَتَّمِ خَرَابُهَا، طُوبَى لِمَنْ يُجَازِيكِ بِمَا جَزَيْتِنَا بِهِ.

Wretched daughter of Babylon! blessed [shall he be] who shall reward thee as thou hast rewarded us.

٩ 9 طُوبَى لِمَنْ يُمْسِكُ صِغَارَكِ وَيَضْرِبُ بِهِمِ الصَّخْرَةَ.

Blessed [shall he be] who shall seize and dash thine infants against the rock.
